Principles for Using Twitter
1. Think of Twitter as a Research Tool
2. Build community and promotion will follow
3. Make Twitter part of a larger system of
   dynamic web content
4. Use Twitter in a measured, consistent way
5. Find a way to manage your Twitter feeds
   (and other social media streams)
Principle 1: Twitter as a research
tool
The key to using Twitter is to follow like-minded
accounts and engage with the links they post.

These apps will aggregate the links from the
accounts that you follow to create a newspaper
or a magazine.

They provide a great way to access content in
a readable way.
Principle 2: Promotion as a by-
product of community building
Social media is two-way communication.

To get people to follow you and keep following
you, you have to provide material to keep their
interest.

Follow others. Retweet what you find
interesting. Communicate.
Principle 3: Twitter as part of a larger
system of dynamic web content
Static vs Dynamic web content

Use Twitter to broadcast new things posted to
your site.

Twitter can operate as a lure to bring people to
your content.

But you must have content.

Google +
Twitter
What is there to talk about?
Tweet what you are doing in your work on any
given day.

Tweet links to websites and stories that your
followers will be interested in.

Live tweet events, conferences, even meetings
when you want to broadcast information about
them.

the meeting "location."

Every poster uses the
hashtag.

Every follower can see
the tweet
Lists
Lists connect Twitter users, just as hashtags
connect events.
Principle 4: Using Twitter
consistently
Twitter feeds should be active without being
overbearing.

Plan and space out tweets.
● How many per day?
● What kinds of tweets do you want to send?
Principle 5: Find a way to manage
everything.
Hootsuite
   A local product that allows users to coordinate and
   synchronize social media platforms. TTG should look
   into purchasing pro or enterprise account.
Tweetdeck
   A bit like Hootsuite, less business oriented. Owned by
   Twitter

   Good app for the iPad, allows user to work from several
   accounts
