Tropical
Savannahs
Climate

• Experience very high
  temperature ranging from
  20 C/68 F/293.15K to
  30 C/86 F/303.15K
• Rainfall range from 200 – 1000
  millimeters
Distribution
• Found in places within the
  Tropics that experience very
  high temperature.
• Can be found at central and
  southern Africa, Venezuela
and Brazil and in India and
  Australia
Characteristic
• Fire occurs frequently during the dry period
as thunder that hits them set them on fire
• Characterized by tall grass with scattered
  trees and small tiny shrubs
• The grasses are hardy and adapt well to dry
  conditions
• Grasses have long roots to tap water
  underground
• Trees that grow in the tropical savannahs have small
leaves to reduce transpiration, large trunks to store
water and thick barks to protect against fire
• E.g. The Baobob tree has a diameter of 9 meters. The
acacia has thick leaves which help to reduce the
  amount of transpiration
