TRENDS in
Education
Teacher Focused
to Student-
Centered
Learning
Transition
Teacher Focused to Student-
Centered Learning Transition
 classroom essentially revolved around teachers.
 The flow of interaction was primarily teacher to
student, with little need of reciprocity.
 classroom tools and technologies also focused on
primarily serving the needs of teachers, while
student-centered tech boiled down to desks and
chairs.
Teacher Focused to Student-
Centered Learning Transition
 classrooms are becoming increasingly student-centered
because of advancing technologies
 demand more flexible models to accommodate a growing
range of topics and also new teaching models
 to engage more with each other and teachers as opposed to
traditional teacher-focused classrooms
 Experience shows kids and learners in general absorb and
retain knowledge better when engaged and active.
ADVANTAGE
● trusted more and having
greater autonomy.
● New teaching modalities place
growing importance on projects
and goal attainment, not just
grades.
● rely on critical thinking, active
inquiry, peer-to-peer
collaboration, and social skill
engagement.
● Members of the class learn to
work independently and to
interact with others as part of
the learning process.
ADVANTAGE
● Education becomes a more
shared experience between
the instructor and the
students, and between the
students themselves.
● Students build both
collaboration and
communication skills.
● Students tend to be more
interested in learning when
they interact with one
another and participate
actively in their own
education.
DISADVANTAGE
● With students free to interact,
the classroom space can feel
noisy or chaotic
● With less focus on lectures,
there can be a concern that
some students may miss
important information
● Though collaboration is
considered beneficial, this
approach may not feel ideal
for students who prefer to
work alone.
ISSUES in
Education
Technology in
Education
Technology in
education is a powerful
movement that is sweeping
through schools nationwide.
After all, today’s students have
grown up with digital technology
and expect it t be part of their
learning experience.
Proponents point out
that educational technology
offers the potential to engage
students in more active learning.
ISSUES in
Education
Technology in
Education
 It can facilitate group collaboration
and provide instant access to up-
to-date resources.
 Teachers and instructors can
integrate online surveys,
interactive case studies, and
relevant videos to offer content
tailored to different learning styles.
 students with special needs
frequently rely on assistive
technology to communicate and
access course materials.
ADVANTAGE
● Provides a better interactive
experience during the learning
and teaching process
● Provides access to an
unlimited amount of current
information and data from a
variety of sources
● Teaches them digital literacy
● Reduces educational costs
● Provides better insight into
student performance thanks to
metrics
DISADVANTAGE
● Technology can be a
distraction.
● Technology can pose a
real threat to student
privacy and security.
● Potentially diminishes
cognitive development
and reduces problem-
solving skills
Implications
While technology in education
is sometimes seen as a threat
and it does have its limits,
integrating it into your teaching
practice offers a new way for
students to interact and
engage with course material.
