The viewer is introduced to my thriller opening with our production logo,
thatfills the entire screen. Whilst the viewer is greeted with my production logo
my thriller music is playing in the background, a combination of tubular bells
and attack on titans, this is heard throughout the opening. Our thriller opening
starts as soon as the viewer see’s the production logo. After the of our thriller
opening ‘Another’ is seen, the word another is written in red that is to symbolise
blood. Another is written on a black background in order to enhance the title and
to give it a more dramatic effect.
After the title is shown the viewer is shown a shot of a female laying on the
ground. This is shown as a high angle shot in order to see the female’s full body
length. The scene is dark so we added strobe lights in order to highlight to the
viewer that the female is laying on the ground, but also to create anticipation.
The female who is the main character Sasha is wearing heavy make up, false eye
lashes and is in a red skirt, black blouse and pumps. We have chosen this outfit to
highlight the Japanese theme of our thriller. This takes place twice in the thriller
opening. We have chosen to use a cut into several scenes’ of cast members
looking in 180 degrees of themselves. These are taken as mid shots of the
characters, this is to draw attention to a weird entity that is suppose to be
located in the high school. Subsequently to this the viewer observes empty stair
cases with flickering lights, that are taken as a wide shot vertically so this would
cause confusion to the viewer.
In addition to this the viewer notices a screen that is cut into two, that have two
different events occurring at the same time. These shots have blackouts and
jump cuts at the opposite time so the viewer would focus on one side of the
screen at a time. The viewer also sees the progression of the Sasha (the main
character) is doing at that particular time. The main character is still in the
anime themed clothing.
Later on the viewer see’s scenes of the Sasha walking down a long corridor taken
as a wide shot and the camera panning in a 180 degree angle, this occurs on
several occasion throughout the thriller opening. The viewer is also exposed to
Sasha sitting on a windowpane on her phone, and looking around to represent
her feeling a weird entity. This is taken as a wide shot in order to get the full
length of her body in the shot. For the corridor scene the main character is in a
black blouse and trousers and for the windowpane scene the she is in a black
blouse and skirt.
The next even to take place is the first scene of the main character laying down
on the ground. Then we have a cut to introduce Sasha talking to a teacher, after
we have another cut that shows the first scene that is introduced to the reader to
cause confusion.
Purpose
The purpose of this to create an insight to how the character is feeling. We
explored this by using different camera angles to create the feeling of Sasha
being watched. By her turning around and making the environment that she is in
look purposely dark and gloomy. This is done by the editing using a tint over
various scenes to enhance the type of environment that she is in. We have also
chosen to make the thriller have a fast pace in order to create anticipation,
confusion and tension to make the viewer of the opening want to see more.
Influence
The influence that has allowed us to develop our own thriller opening is another,
which is a Japanese anime. The anime uses different types of shot such as
extreme close ups in the most inconvenient places to purposely cause confusion
to the reader. This ensures that the viewer keeps on watching to see what will
happen next. However, the anime opening moves at a much slower pace than our
thriller opening that allows suspension to build up. We have adapted this anime
thriller by looking at the opening in great depth and experimenting with
different ideas and finding out if it will or won’t work. We have also added in our
own music to make the anime thriller have a different vibe in comparison to the
Japanese anime Another.
Screenshots of scenes in my thriller opening
This is a screenshot of Sasha running
from the weird entity. We have used an effect that slits the screen into two, so
that the audience is able to see two things that occurred in the same day.
This is a shot of a tap dripping a
substance. We have used a frame resembling a camera to emphasise the scene.
This is an image of our production logo that is
the first scene that the viewer sees’. The production logo sets the viewers
expectation.
This screen shot is of Sasha covering her mouth,
this allows the audience to know that Sasha is shocked. We have used a black
screen, and a bubble effect. To highlight to the viewer how Sasha feels.
Photos’ of influences
This shot is taken from a film called midnight room, the black and white effect
that I like. Because it draws attention to the woman who looks like she is
frightened of something or someone.
We intend to incorporate the Japanese high school outfit into our thriller.
Because it allows the character to think that Sasha (the main character) is
vulnerable. However, later on in the thriller opening they find out that she is
smart and strong. In the opening she will use her intellectual ability to figure out
a mystery.
We intend to do several scene of Sasha (main
character) alone mostly using mid –shots, extreme close- up and close –ups. This
draws attention to the main character and allows the viewer to focus on her
physical persona. Allows the audience to know what she is thinking and feeling.
