The Convention of the Strings
• This image shows a large amount of the strings attached to
top of the tent. The strings build up tension for the audience
because the audience doesn’t know why they are there and
plants questions in there mind and this encourages the
audience to want to find out more.
• Our thriller product follows Convention of some thriller films
such as se7en because in their opening sequence there are
close up shots which also creates questions. The strings post
questions to the audience making the audience want to
know more and creates a thrill.
Facial expressions
This shot of the main characters face captures the facial
expression of the man and shows the surprised and shocked
feelings he is experiencing. His facial expressions also makes
the audience feel that they should be experiencing and
connecting to the characters similar feelings.
Walking towards the door

This capture of the man walking to the door builds up tension
because the audience doesn’t know what is the other side of the
door setting the traps off. The building up of the tension is a
method used in horror and thriller films because their intention is
to build up the tension making the audience sitting back in their
chair and biting their finger nails while the film uncovers the plot.
Long shot to show the setting

• This shot shots the setting of the opening sequence which
consists inside a main hallway with a tent. This shot reveals
the answers to the questions which the earlier shots of the
string plants into the audiences heads.
• This show also gives the audience the chance to see a section
of the string trap from a far and the boarded up windows in
the backgroud which suggests to the audience that the man
has been in hide out for a long time
The Title

• This title links to normal thriller conventions because it is just
a normal plain title. The white writing on the black
background makes this writing stand out and this same type
of title option has been included in films such as se7en and I
am Legend both thriller films and because our title follows a
similar pattern it can be seen as using the same conention.
The bell
• I chose to include a shot of a bell to show the conventions of
thriller movies because the bell is used to alert the man when
something is causing his trap to go off. Normally to alert
someone there is a siren or something big to get someone's
attention. However, we used a small scale object so that the
tension can be built while the bell is slowly swinging and
making a did sound and then the bell starts moving more
vigorously the bells sound increases which makes both the
character and audience alert, which is a convention because it
makes the audience interact and connect with the character.
The Door handle
• This shot also creates tension because the audience doesnt
expect the door handle to move, they expect the man to grap
and open the door. This sense of not expecting something is
portrayed in films such as thriller and because we have
included an element of this our film can be seen as a
  convention of a thriller film.
• This show also utilises the strings and how they have been
attached to the door where the sound is coming from
The Axe
• The use of the axe portrays the idea of protection and also
that something dangerous is outside. Normally in a thriller or
horror film elements such as guns, knives and axes are used
to show the conventions of these films. So because we have
included the axe our film can be seen as under this this
category. The word axe normally represents negative imagery
in horror and thriller films, however in out thriller sequence
the axe is used for protection and not for purpose harm. Has
  contentions of killing and death.
Traps

• The trap used in our thriller shoot consisted of many strings
with bells and cans attached to them.
• The cans were used to show the audience that the main
character used anything he could find to make the trap to
protect himself from the monster killer, who has created a
disaster and end of the word situation.
• For inspiration we looked at the se7en opening sequence
because the whole sequence consist of close up shots making
the audience questing the shots, which we have included
  during our thriller.
