The Circa 1880s mansion built by the merchant Cheong Fatt Tze at the end of 19th century has 38 rooms, 5 granite-paved courtyards, 7 staircases & 220 vernacular timber louvre windows. The architecture of the mansion however originates from the Su Chow Dynasty Period in China. Other features of the house include Gothic louvered windows, Chinese cut and paste porcelain work, Stoke-on-Trent floor tiles made of encaustic clay in geometric pieces all shaped to fit to a perfect square, Glasgow cast iron works by MacFarlane's & Co. and Art Nouveau48 stained glass windows. The mansion was originally built with careful attention to the principles of Feng Shui.The domestic annex is built in front of it to prevent any road being built to create a T-Junction in front of it; it has water running through a meandering network of pipes that begin from the eaves of the roof, channeled through the upper ceiling, down the walls collecting in the central courtyard before being channeled away from the property via a similar network of pipes, in this case, underneath the entire flooring system and is built with a step in the middle to create a slope (to ride on the dragons back).
The distinctive blue colour of the mansion is the result of mixing lime with natural blue dye made from the Indigo plant. The blue was very popular in the Colonial period and the dye was imported from India to Penang by the British. The lime-wash was very effective in a tropical weather as it absorbed moisture and cooled the house whilst dispelling moisture without damage to the structural integrity of the walls. Though white was the most easily-available colour, the indigo-blue was chosen as the former is a colour synonymous with death for the Chinese.
The mansion was purchased from Cheong Fatt Tze's descendants in 1989 by a group of local Penang individuals in order to save the edifice from encroaching development and possible demolition. While it remains until now, a private-residence, the property operates as a 16 Room Bed & Breakfast-cum-museum as part of the adaptive reuse of an ongoing restoration project which has won awards from UNESCO. The gamble house is a national historic landmark. The gamble house is also a museum. It is located in Pasadena, California in USA (Arntzenius 34). It was designed by Brothers Charles summer and Henry Mather Greene of the architectural firm Greene and Greene for the proctor and gamble company in 1908; it was declared a national historic landmark in 1977 it provides docent guided tours. Villa Maier is a villa, guest house and rural retreat designed and built by the finish modernist architect Alva Aalto for Harry and Marie Gullichsen in Noormarkku, Finland in 1939; it provides tours of which one must inquire about in advance (Aalto 543). Both of these houses are categorized among the 10mid-century modern lovable homes and masterpieces of the twentieth century.
The gambler house is a master piece of the Greene brothers and deserves to be known by everybody on the merits of well-crafted architecture, inside and out. It has featured in numerous films and combines styles and means that is art and crafts. The owners of the house proctor and gamble were business partners. They were candle and soap makers who merged to become millionaires. Originally the house was intended for winter residence for David and Mary Gamble, it greatly portrayed Japanese aesthetics and the American Craftsman style architecture was focused on the use of natural materials, attention and craftsmanship (Arntzenius 374).

3. BAKİ BEY MANSION
The house was built in the17th century. It is a two storey and stone based house. The floors are wooden covered with
carpets. Stone stairs go upstairs. From the second floor, you can see the garden and veranda. The ceiling of the veranda
has many different colours. Green and red colours are common. The main room is on the east side of the mansion and
it is the best room. There are lots of different and great embellishments in the Mainroom. Patterns reflect that time’s
plant figures. The house is a great work from Ottoman Empire’s time.
5. It is one of the samples of Ottoman architecture in 17 th century. The two storey building’s
first floor is Stone-based and the second floor is wooden and soil covered. Mainrom’s east
wall is made of a special Stone found in the region. The building is located in the west of
yard. There is a fountain under the stairs and is still used. At the ground floor of the house
there are two big and a small room with arches. Stairs with wooden fence lead to second
floor and there are a number of rooms at the South facade of a rectangular sofa. It has a
kiosk in the northern side. The roof of the sofa is equipped with big and small, blue, red and
green coloured triangles.
6. • In the west part of the sofa is located the mainroom. Mainroom has a lot of
Windows to allow sunshine inside. It is the most fascinating room of the house
together with wooden wardrobe and other colourful coverings. In the northern
part the some part of the floor is heightened. At the entrance of the room along
the wardrobe there is a narrow place for shoes. Lightening of the room is from two
ways.
7. There are some writings in Arabic on the mirrors of Windows and wardrobe
praising the owner of the mansion. The building has four other rooms facing the
sofa. These room’s window provide sunlight fort he sofa. There is another main
room in the west side with lots of embellishments characterizing traditional
Turkish architecture.
8. EGYPTIANS’ HOUSE
It is located on the Oluklaraltı street and it was built in the 19 th century. This two
storey house stands on a Stone base. The roof has alaturca tiles .The rooms to
spend winter in are downstairs with the cellar. Upstairs rooms all meet a narrow
sofa in the middle. Ceilings have wooden decorations. Lots of window let the light
in. Mainroom’s ornaments and decoration are better than other rooms. Flower
patterns can be seen on the ceilings.
