Meaning
A Trade Union is an organization that employees can join in order to
have their interests and goals better represented. A worker will pay an
annual subscription and in return will have their interests more
powerfully represented than if they had to negotiate with employers on
their own.
Trade Union means an organization (whether temporary or permanent)
which consist mainly workers of one or more descriptions whose
principle purpose includes the regulation of relations between employees
and employers.
Meaning.
A trade union of workers is an organization formed by workers to protect their
interests, improve their working conditions etc. All trade unions have goals or
objectives to achieve, which are contained in their constitution and each has its
own strategy to reach those goals.
Trade unions are now considered a sub-system, which seeks to serve the specific
sub-groups interest(i.e., the workers) and also considers itself a part of the
organization terms of latter’s viability and contribution to the growth of the
community of which it is a part. Therefore there are trade unions of blue collar
workers, white collar employees and also employers.
The principal purpose of Trade Union are to
Negotiate wages and working condition terms
Regulate relations between workers and the employer.
Take collective action to enforce the terms of collective bargaining
Raise new demand on behalf of its members and settle their grievances
Definitions
According to Trade Union Act 1926, “Trade Union means any
combination, whether temporary or permanent, formed primarily for the
purpose of regulating the relations between workmen and employers or
between workmen and workmen, or between employers and employers
or for imposing restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or
business, and includes any federation of two or more trade unions”.
Definitions
According to Webbs, “A trade union is a continuous association of
wages earners for the purpose of maintaining and improving the
conditions of the working lives”.
According to G.D.H.Cole, “A Trade union means an association of
workers in one or more professions-an association carried on mainly for
the purpose of protecting and advancing the member’s economic
interests in connection with their daily work”.
Definitions
An Organization whose membership consists of workers and union
leaders united to protect and promote their common interest.
An Organized association of workers in a trade, group of trades, or
profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests.
An organization of workers in the same skilled occupation or related
skilled occupations who act together to secure for all members
favorable wages, hours and other working conditions.

Dissatisfaction with work environment, including working conditions,
compensation and supervision.
A desire to have more influence in affecting change in working
environment.

The ability to give one influential voice through the union.

also in eyes of management. Supervisors are cautious in the way they
treat their employees who are members of union.

itervene in situations that are unfair.

Poor grievance system
Poor security system-Workers have to work in toxic and hazard
environment which result in permanent health concerns. Trade Union
will fight for better work conditions and provision of safe and healthy
environments.
