Concept Of Labour Relation:
 Labour relation refers to all means of relationship between
management and employees, unions and managements,
unions and employees and between the employees
themselves.
 The primary focus of labour relation should be on grievance
handling, industrial dispute and interpretation labour laws
etc…
 The purpose of labour relation is to establish and strengthen
the employee and employer relationship by measuring
employees satisfaction, identifying and resolving workplace
issues and providing support to management of the company.
Objectives of Labour
Relation:
1. Harmonious relation: The primary objective of labour relation is to promote and
develop healthy relationship between management and employees.
2. Enhance economic status: It focuses on providing incentives such as wages, salary and
other benefits to employees on the basis of their skills and efficiency.
3. Maximize productivity: The objective of labour relation is to maximize productivity by
minimizing industrial conflict.
4. Opportunity to participate: The objective of labour relation is to provide decision
making opportunity to the workers. The workers can also participate in preparation of
rules, regulations and procedures of the organization.
5. Improve employee strength: The another objective of labour relation is to improve
workers’ strength while dealing with management. It develops employees bargaining
power while making negotiation with company management.
6. Encourage trade union: Trade relation encourages for the
development trade union. They can deal with the management through union
and plays vital rile in solving their problems.
7. Change management: Another major objective of labour relation is
to manage the change in the organization. Management is dynamic in nature so
good labour relation encourages employees to accept the change.
8. Environmental adaptation: Labour relation is an important means
of environmental adaption. Management can consult with workers and their
union before introduction of any new method and procedures in the
organization.
9. Minimize industrial conflict: Another major objective of labour
relation is to minimize industrial conflict and their consequences. It emphasizes
on democracy and communication system. Organizational problems are solved by
both management and workers through mutual negotiation.
Actors of Labour Relation:
1.Employers:
Employers are the Investors and have direct interest in welfare business. They
buy service of workers to meet business objectives. They have right to hire
and fire workers.
2. Employers’ Associations:
Employers’ Associations develop a system to avoid labour disputes and
provide information on employee relation. In Nepal there are some
employers’ associations which play important role for maintaining good
industrial relation in Nepal such as FNCCI and NCC.
3. Employees:
Employees are one who possesses skills and who does the real job. Workers
are represented by trade union. Trade union work to protect the social and
job security of the workers as well as promotes healthy relationship between
the management and the workers.
4. Trade Union:
Trade Unions are the representative associations of employees. They play
important role for collective bargaining with employers or management and for
protecting interest of member employees.
5. Government:
The government regulates and controls the rules and regulates the concerning
labour and other things. It enforces the compliance of laws. There are special
interest groups, who pressurize government to enact or withdrew laws to
protect the interests of labour.
6. Pressure Group:
There are some indirect stakeholders who have indirect role for maintaining
labour relation. These Pressure groups involve media, social institutions,
Consumer Protection Society etc. These institutions also provide influence for
maintaining good industrial relation in the organization.

Concept Of Labour Relation:  Labour relation refers to all means of relationship between management and employees, unions and managements, unions and employees and between the employees themselves.  The primary focus of labour relation should be on grievance handling, industrial dispute and interpretation labour laws etc…  The purpose of labour relation is to establish and strengthen the employee and employer relationship by measuring employees satisfaction, identifying and resolving workplace issues and providing support to management of the company.
  • 5. Objectives of Labour Relation: 1. Harmonious relation: The primary objective of labour relation is to promote and develop healthy relationship between management and employees. 2. Enhance economic status: It focuses on providing incentives such as wages, salary and other benefits to employees on the basis of their skills and efficiency. 3. Maximize productivity: The objective of labour relation is to maximize productivity by minimizing industrial conflict. 4. Opportunity to participate: The objective of labour relation is to provide decision making opportunity to the workers. The workers can also participate in preparation of rules, regulations and procedures of the organization. 5. Improve employee strength: The another objective of labour relation is to improve workers’ strength while dealing with management. It develops employees bargaining power while making negotiation with company management.
  • 6. 6. Encourage trade union: Trade relation encourages for the development trade union. They can deal with the management through union and plays vital rile in solving their problems. 7. Change management: Another major objective of labour relation is to manage the change in the organization. Management is dynamic in nature so good labour relation encourages employees to accept the change. 8. Environmental adaptation: Labour relation is an important means of environmental adaption. Management can consult with workers and their union before introduction of any new method and procedures in the organization. 9. Minimize industrial conflict: Another major objective of labour relation is to minimize industrial conflict and their consequences. It emphasizes on democracy and communication system. Organizational problems are solved by both management and workers through mutual negotiation.
  • 7. Actors of Labour Relation: 1.Employers: Employers are the Investors and have direct interest in welfare business. They buy service of workers to meet business objectives. They have right to hire and fire workers. 2. Employers’ Associations: Employers’ Associations develop a system to avoid labour disputes and provide information on employee relation. In Nepal there are some employers’ associations which play important role for maintaining good industrial relation in Nepal such as FNCCI and NCC. 3. Employees: Employees are one who possesses skills and who does the real job. Workers are represented by trade union. Trade union work to protect the social and job security of the workers as well as promotes healthy relationship between the management and the workers.
  • 8. 4. Trade Union: Trade Unions are the representative associations of employees. They play important role for collective bargaining with employers or management and for protecting interest of member employees. 5. Government: The government regulates and controls the rules and regulates the concerning labour and other things. It enforces the compliance of laws. There are special interest groups, who pressurize government to enact or withdrew laws to protect the interests of labour. 6. Pressure Group: There are some indirect stakeholders who have indirect role for maintaining labour relation. These Pressure groups involve media, social institutions, Consumer Protection Society etc. These institutions also provide influence for maintaining good industrial relation in the organization.
