• British trade union Act views it thus, ‘A trade union is
a combination with the main objective of
regulating the relations between workmen and
masters or between workmen and workmen or
between masters and masters for imposing of
restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or
business and also provision of benefits to members.

union
• A statement that org. is a trade union
• A statement of its principal objectives, clearly
specifying that fact that the org. so formed is for the
betterment of its members, i.e., workers.
• Registration with the registrar of trade unions having
jurisdiction on the area where trade union functions.

in India
• As per the Indian trade union act 1926 , the primary
function of a trade union is to protect and promote
the interest of the workers and the conditions of
their employment.
