Program aging is a degradation of performance or functionality caused by resource depletion. The aging affects the cloud
services which provide access to big data bank and computing resources. This suffers large budget and delays of defect removal, which
requires other related solutions including renewal in the form of controlled restarts. Collection of various runtime metrics are more
significant source for further study of detection and analysis of aging issues. This study highlights the method for detecting aging
immediately after their introduction by runtime comparisons of different development scenarios. The study focuses on aging of
program and service crash as a consequence.

HTTP is the distributed computing API that makes all of the others look bad. HTTP’s popularity is largely due to the simplicity of its text-based format and stateless interaction. Despite this, many web application development frameworks attempt to provide an abstraction layer over HTTP, and only add complexity in the attempt to hide the details.
This short presentation introduces HTTP basics for beginners, and shows what it looks like under the covers. Novice web developers benefit from this introduction by learning to understand where a platform-specific ends and where HTTP and the platform we call ‘the web’ starts.
Documentation avoidance for developersPeter Hilton
However good your code, other people never seem to get it. Instead they ruin your day (and your productivity) by asking questions and expecting documentation. You need to know how to explain code without getting stuck in meetings or spending half your time on the only thing you hate more than meetings: writing documentation. Instead, you aim for constructive laziness: tactics that give you more time to write code.
This talk teaches you how to avoid writing documentation, by making it unnecessary or delegating the work to someone else. You will also learn how to deal with the awkward situation when you can’t get away with avoidance or delegation, and have to write the documentation yourself.
This talk explores what we talk about when we talk about code, how we do it, and the tools we use. You can often find a better tool than documentation, but not always. Not everyone writes detailed specifications these days, but remote working and distributed teams make written explanations more valuable than ever. Talking face to face requires less effort, but you rarely or never meet the authors of most of the code you see. Software craftsmanship has failed to make written documentation unnecessary. Instead we shall turn to README-Driven Development, comments evasion, documentation-avoidance, just-in-time documentation and the art of not writing it in the first place.
Bad comments are such a big problem, that most discussion on the subject never gets past how not to write bad comments. No wonder so many programmers admit defeat and adopt a policy of writing no comments at all.
This talk goes beyond bad comments to discover different kinds of good comments that are worth having, no matter how beautiful and perfect the code is.
Process-oriented reactive service architecturePeter Hilton
Reactive application development gives us better ways to build scalable applications, but often together with a micro-services jigsaw puzzle. Decoupled teams can rapidly deliver decoupled services, but you still need to piece together an end-to-end system. This presentation introduces an alternative way to think about and architect reactive applications using workflow tools.
Modern workflow management tools enable a convenient process-oriented approach to service orchestration that is itself reactive. More importantly, process management technology provides two key features that hand-coded applications typically lack: persistent execution state and an editable graphical process representation that you can use to define and adjust service orchestration. After learning how to coordinate micro-services, you will also and how to use the same system to orchestrate micro-service-like human workers. It turns out that with the right platform, human actors can also be reactive services, and participate in the same architecture.
Meeting-avoidance for self-managing developersPeter Hilton
How and when to avoid meetings and have more time to write code
Meetings are a problem for any organisations, because they dull the attention-span of otherwise intelligent people, and prevent otherwise productive people from getting any work done. Software developers suffer more than most, because they can’t even pretend that they’re getting any work done when they’re sitting in meetings. After all, getting your laptop out and writing code during a meeting is (rightly) considered rude.
This presentation introduces various approaches that software developers can use to reduce the number of meetings in their organisation, so they have more time to write code. In particular, developer contributions to project management can drastically reduce the number of meetings.
How to name things: the hardest problem in programmingPeter Hilton
Developers can get better at their craft by learning from the great writers who mastered theirs. Writing software isn’t the same as writing a novel, but there are parallels. Besides, advice from writers is better because writers have been struggling with their craft for many centuries, not just a few decades. It’s better-written as well. This talk shares great writers’ best advice for coders: Stephen King on refactoring, Anne Rice on development hardware, Hemingway on modelling with personas, and Neil Gaiman on everything.

Evaluation of load balancing approaches for Erlang concurrent application in ...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Cloud system accommodates the computing environment including PaaS (platform as a service), SaaS (software as a service), and IaaS (infrastructure as service) that enables the services of cloud systems. Cloud system allows multiple users to employ computing services through browsers, which reflects an alternative service model that alters the local computing workload to a distant site. Cloud virtualization is another characteristic of the clouds that deliver virtual computing services and imitate the functionality of physical computing resources. It refers to an elastic load balancing management that provides the flexible model of on-demand services. The virtualization allows organizations to improve high levels of reliability, accessibility, and scalability by having a capability to execute applications on multiple resources simultaneously. In this paper we use a queuing model to consider a flexible load balancing and evaluate performance metrics such as mean queue length, throughput, mean waiting time, utilization, and mean traversal time. The model is aware of the arrival of concurrent applications with an Erlang distribution. Simulation results regarding performance metrics are investigated. Results point out that in Cloud systems both the fairness and load balancing are to be significantly considered.

Cloud-based augmentation for mobile devices: Motivation, Taxonomy, and Open C...Saeid Abolfazli
Comprehensive Survey on Mobile Cloud Computing. The paper abstract is here:
Recently, Cloud-based Mobile Augmentation (CMA) approaches have gained remarkable ground from academia and industry. CMA is the state-of-the-art mobile augmentation model that employs resource-rich clouds to increase, enhance, and optimize computing capabilities of mobile devices aiming at execution of resource-intensive mobile applications. Augmented mobile devices envision to perform extensive computations and to store big data beyond their intrinsic capabilities with least footprint and vulnerability. Researchers utilize varied cloud-based computing resources (e.g., distant clouds and nearby mobile nodes) to meet various computing requirements of mobile users. However, employing cloud-based computing resources is not a straightforward panacea. Comprehending critical factors (e.g., current state of mobile client and remote resources) that impact on augmentation process and optimum selection of cloud-based resource types are some challenges that hinder CMA adaptability. This paper comprehensively surveys the mobile augmentation domain and presents taxonomy of CMA approaches. The objectives of this study is to highlight the effects of remote resources on the quality and reliability of augmentation processes and discuss the challenges and opportunities of employing varied cloud-based resources in augmenting mobile devices. We present augmentation definition, motivation, and taxonomy of augmentation types, including traditional and cloud-based. We critically analyze the state-of-the-art CMA approaches and classify them into four groups of distant fixed, proximate fixed, proximate mobile, and hybrid to present a taxonomy. Vital decision making and performance limitation factors that influence on the adoption of CMA approaches are introduced and an exemplary decision making flowchart for future CMA approaches are presented. Impacts of CMA approaches on mobile computing is discussed and open challenges are presented as the future research directions.
Dynamic Framework Design for Offloading Mobile Applications to Cloudiosrjce
Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) is an infrastructure where the data and the processing of data are
outsourced. MCC integrates cloud computing into the mobile environment and executes the applications in the
mobile device effectively by partitioning and offloading the computation intensive task to external resources
(e.g. Public Clouds). The effective offloading is mainly focused on the decision maker which tells “when to
offload” during execution time. Though prior decision making techniques has its own pros and cons, it doesn’t
support dynamic changing environment and also consumes more time and energy for training the input
instances. Also while offloading there is no security for the information to be transmitted. So, the proposed
dynamic framework is designed with efficient intelligent classifier for offloading mobile application in
dynamically changing by estimating the applications on-device and on-server performance. And to ensure
security, Steganography technique is additionally used within the proposed framework to conceal the
information
DYNAMIC ALLOCATION METHOD FOR EFFICIENT LOAD BALANCING IN VIRTUAL MACHINES FO...acijjournal
This paper proposes a Dynamic resource allocation method for Cloud computing. Cloud computing is a model for delivering information technology services in which resources are retrieved from the internet through web-based tools and applications, rather than a direct connection to a server. Users can set up
and boot the required resources and they have to pay only for the required resources. Thus, in the future providing a mechanism for efficient resource management and assignment will be an important objective of Cloud computing. In this project we propose a method, dynamic scheduling and consolidation mechanism that allocate resources based on the load of Virtual Machines (VMs) on Infrastructure as a service (IaaS). This method enables users to dynamically add and/or delete one or more instances on the basis of the load and the conditions specified by the user. Our objective is to develop an effective load balancing algorithm using Virtual Machine Monitoring to
maximize or minimize different performance parameters(throughput for example) for the Clouds of
different sizes (virtual topology de-pending on the application requirement).

TRACON: Interference-Aware Scheduling for Data Intensive
Applications in Virtualized Environments
Abstract
Large-scale data centers leverage virtualization technology to achieve excellent
resource utilization, scalability, and high availability. Ideally, the performance of an
application running inside a virtual machine (VM) shall be independent of co-located
applications and VMs that share the physical machine. However, adverse
interference effects exist and are especially severe for data-intensive applications in
such virtualized environments. In this work, we present TRACON, a novel Task and
Resource Allocation CONtrol framework that mitigates the interference effects from
concurrent data-intensive applications and greatly improves the overall system
performance. TRACON utilizes modeling and control techniques from statistical
machine learning and consists of three major components: the interference
prediction model that infers application performance from resource consumption
observed from different VMs, the interference-aware scheduler that is designed to
utilize the model for effective resource management, and the task and resource
monitor that collects application characteristics at the runtime for model adaption.
We simulate TRACON with a wide variety of data-intensive applications including
bioinformatics, data mining, video processing, email and web servers, etc. The
evaluation results show that TRACON can achieve up to 50% improvement on
application runtime, and up to 80% on I/O throughput for data-intensive applications
in virtualized data centers.
