The document summarizes key differences between traditional IT and cloud IT, and outlines the steps to transitioning to the cloud. Traditional IT is characterized by high costs of upgrade, low scalability, and long implementation times. Cloud IT offers low overbuy, zero underbuy through scalable resource provisioning, high scalability, and low implementation times. The steps to transitioning include building a business case, developing a strategy, assessing readiness, piloting solutions, and gaining approval. The document also discusses selecting cloud vendors and HCL's cloud services framework.

Application Performance Management in the Clouds - Lessons LearnedMichael Kopp
We face the challenge of monitoring and managing performance in clouds every other day. Not only is application performance management different in a cloud, but all clouds are not equal either. This lessons learned session will show how to do APM in several different Clouds (Azure, EC2, VMware private Clouds) and how it differs from more traditional environments. The session will also cover performance monitoring, troubleshooting and tuning in environments where resources are virtually infinite, but application performance is not.

A Practical Approach to Delivering Cloud Platforms Using Novell Solutions: Ho...Novell
n this session, you will see how Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) provides a client-directed cloud solution focused on what customers want to do today. ACS has created a private cloud-based service that offers many of the benefits of a public cloud computing environment. The difference is that in a private cloud-based service, data and processes are managed within an ACS trusted environment without the security exposures and legal requirements that come with using public cloud services across open, public networks. Additionally, private cloud services can offer the enterprise greater control, thus improving security and resiliency as user access and the networks are restricted and designated.
Novell and ACS teamed together to build the ACS Management Platform, which enables you to fully manage the cloud service offerings, from the core management services to distributed multiple clouds running in multiple data centers. Learn how the ACS Management Platform provides streamlined service provisioning of application tiers and performance levels in a multi-tenant, virtualized, cross-cloud computing platforms. Additionally, it provides ITIL 3.0, Pharma and SOX compliance to ensure you have high levels of services at a much lower price than traditional service providers.
Learn how Novell and ACS are working together to help customers with the creation of various business models, which include the integration of services from different providers (public and private) to support and drive business innovation and optimization. This session will demonstrate a multi-phase delivery engagement model to define, integrate, and implement the technologies and processes necessary to deliver cloud-based services.
Slides from European SharePoint Conference 2013 in Copenhagen. In this session, we will focus on various hybrid scenarios, which possibilities you have on your way to the cloud and how you can manage your hybrid world. What common questions should be answered for hybrid solutions?

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
2. Traditional IT vs. The Cloud
Traditional IT:
- Heavy under/overbuy
- High Costs of Upgrade
- Low Scalability
- High time to Implementation
Cloud IT:
- Low overbuy
- Zero Underbuy (Resource
Provisioning)
- High Scalability
- Low time to Implementation

14. HCL Cloud – Case Study
Customer Industry Segment: Healthcare industry
Business Challenges:
1. As every customer, primary focus is on their core line of business i.e.
Healthcare without compromise on security or reliability.
2. Scalability and Agility-Expansion of infrastructure, IT and non-IT, is very
common challenge.
3. Capex & Long Cycle for Energizing :IT infra
selection, purchasing, maintenance and upgrades, has always been a
challenge and bottleneck for non-IT segments.
15. The Solution from HCLOzone – The HCL Cloud( Converged Infra)
1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
2. Backup as a Service (BaaS)
3. Storage as a Service (StaaS)
4. DR as Service (DRaaS)
With promise of infinite scalability and a pay-as-you-go pricing model, the primary benefit
1. For enterprise segment is greater business effectiveness at lower IT costs.
2. For the small and medium business (SMB) segment, cloud services lower barriers to
market growth by lowering technology costs and upfront investments.
16. Business Benefits:
1. Focus on its own core area of business which is healthcare.
2. Healthy Cashflow .
3. Reduced infrastructure costs by a significant margin through a pay per use
model
4. Highly scalable, fast-deployment infrastructure supported by HCL
5. Easily extensible to accommodate its growth plan.
The results of the Ernst and Young Cloud Adoption Survey conducted in 2010 clearly show a focus for SMBs towards usage based, “billed” payments and low capital investment – enterprise drivers on the other hand are the ability to increase focus on core activities and other benefits (intangible benefits include faster deployment times etc.)
Moving to the Cloud offers several significant benefits to both enterprises and SMEs. The EY survey in 2010 reveals several tangible business benefits seen by organizations from moving to the cloud. While concerns exist over security of data, a large number of organizations already have deployed non-critical applications onto public cloud setups, and are actively pursuing private cloud installations to ensure maximum utilization of infrastructure capacity across the enterprise. Some organizations today even resell their additional capacity to other organizations.
