The student should not fail to run spell-check on his or her writing. Please remember that easily correctable spelling and grammatical mistakes left uncorrected will result in significant loss of points . 3) This paper requires MLA formatting that includes: a. 12-point font b. double-spaced sentences c. title and personal identification d. a separate works cited page properly formatted e. specific bibliographical form for print and electronic sources in your works cited f. a specific form for parenthetical (in-text) citations of the sources listed in your works cited The student will be graded on how well his or her style conforms to the above basic requirements in MLA. 4) The works cited must include no less than four sources. This article discusses the problem of unintentional online plagiarism and many
students’ inability to evaluate, critique, synthesize, and credit online sources properly.
Two case studies from different disciplines, which were designed to foster critical evaluation of the Internet and scholarly sources, are discussed in detail. The CARS (Credibility, Accuracy, Reasonableness, Support) checklist for evaluating research sources is also introduced and applied in these case studies. I found this article useful because much of the content of these case studies can be easily adapted to fit assignments in different academic disciplines. One information literacy assignment in one quarter at college is not enough. If students are expected to use the Internet in a responsible way, educators must provide guidelines and relevant experience that allows students to apply those guidelines in practical ways.

FORMAT:
Your essay should be at least FIVE FULL PAGES and in MLA FORMAT. Please include page numbers, a heading, in-text citations and a properly labeled and formatted works cited. You may use images in your draft if you wish – just please use them rhetorically,
not decoratively.
In addition, be sure to
cite any credible sources (textual or image-based) that you include in your draft and to include a bibliography/works cited at the end that includes a
minimum of five sources. These sources must come from the Dallas College database or Dallas College library. If not, there should be a reason why.
PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS AND STRUCTURE
Your proposal should have a well thought out title and contain effective visual rhetoric as appropriate. It should be a traditional, linear Word document in MLA format. Make sure you are hitting the following parts within your essay (do not include subheadings. They are not needed):
Introduction.
This introduction should be designed to interest your reader in your topic and proposal and provide some historical/cultural context for your project. At the end of your introduction, include a tentative thesis to indicate to your reader that you are entering your project looking at your topic through a critical, analytic lens -- this thesis can state your intentions, but it SHOULD NOT BE IN FIRST PERSON.
A good formula for an introduction is context + problem/complication + proposed argument or research question. Each stage in this formula should be a few sentences long.
Body
In your body paragraphs, make sure that you are addressing the problem and its solution. MORE SOLUTION THAN PROBLEM should be in this essay. What are you proposing? What are you offering to the world?
Conclusion.
In your conclusion, address the "So What?" of this research. That is, why does what you are investigating matter as more than an academic exercise? Why should your audience want to read it? Why does it matter?
Works cited
When you cite sources, you'll also need to have a works cited at the end of the proposal, with the citations in MLA format. Any parenthetical citations in the text itself should also follow MLA guidelines. You can find more help on in-text citations and works cited format through the Dallas College website or Purdue OWL.

b. The topic sentence of each paragraph provides a strong lead in for the paragraph, and links the paragraph to your overall argument.
c. You avoid filler language and overly vague comments that get you nowhere in terms of your analysis and argument. Don't be tempted to think of such filler as helping you reach the page minimum! Better to think of it as "wasted space" for developing your analysis and argument.

ASSIGNMENT SCENARIO:
You have been hired as part of the networking team at UMUC. After completing orientation and training in your first week, your manager calls you into a meeting to discuss your first project.
The university has recently leased a building in Adelphi, Maryland. The building will house some offices, classrooms, a library, and computer labs. Security is very important for UMUC, as the university must protect students’ and employees’ data, as well as any intellectual property that UMUC has on its servers and computers. As a result, IT management would like to take the time to review some proposals on how best to move forward. As a network engineer, you have been asked to prepare a network proposal on how to set up a secure network infrastructure in this new building to support university operations.
After speaking to your manager, you are excited about the project, but you realize you will have a busy schedule. As you write your proposal, you will also have to prepare for the Network+ Certification exam. One of the conditions of your employment at this company is that you obtain this certification within 60 days of being hired. You will have to manage your time wisely, because you will have to take a practice certification test just as you are completing your final project.
To get started, follow the steps below.
OVERVIEW
You will provide detailed network design proposal. Your task is to design the network for this new building with the following criteria:

Student-accessed computers should be on separate network from the staff-accessed computers. Computers for public use should be on a separate network.
·
There must be a minimum of 40 Mbps Internet connection, with a backup line capable of at least 20Mbps. Cable, DSL, or FIOS should not be used for primary Internet service.
·
The network should use physical cable, not wireless. But do provide wireless access in the Student Lobby area (second-floor hallway). Set the maximum simultaneous wireless users to 254.
·
The network has been assigned the 10.11.12.0/23 network address for all computers and devices

Included in Doc Sharing is a Research Paper Self-Assessment Checklist to assist students in evaluating the quality of the paper before submitting it for grading. When preparing and writing the research papers, students must be attentive to the following basic requirements. It is imperative that students read and follow these guidelines to ensure a good grade. 1) A research paper involves both the gathering of information and developing a student’s own interpretation of that information. The student must stay focused on his or her chosen topic and rely upon his or her sources for information about that topic. While a student’s own opinions about a topic are an important part of any research process, the student must be able to support his or her conclusions by direct reference to sources. 2) The writing must be clear, logical, and as free of spelling and grammatical errors as possible. A student should never submit a paper without rereading and proofing it. It may even be necessary to get someone to assist in this process by having him or her read the paper and check for mistakes. The student should not fail to run spell-check on his or her writing.
- 2. Please remember that easily correctable spelling and grammatical mistakes left uncorrected will result in significant loss of points . 3) This paper requires MLA formatting that includes: a. 12-point font b. double-spaced sentences c. title and personal identification d. a separate works cited page properly formatted e. specific bibliographical form for print and electronic sources in your works cited f. a specific form for parenthetical (in-text) citations of the sources listed in your works cited The student will be graded on how well his or her style conforms to the above basic requirements in MLA. 4) The works cited must include no less than four sources. Those sources must be relevant to the topic and meet minimum academic qualifications. The acceptable types of sources include the following:
- 3. a. class text b. print or electronic book c. electronic, peer-reviewed journal article d. website with a .edu address 5) Certain sources do not qualify for works cited. You will be penalized if you use them. These are: a. Wikipedia b. standard dictionary or encyclopedia (Web or paper) c. any website not .edu 5 The student should remember that any source listed in your works cited that does not meet the above criteria will not count towards the minimum number of required sources. 6) For every source listed in the works cited, a student must have at least one corresponding parenthetical (in-text) reference. This will demonstrate how a student has used the
