Toxic
Britney Spears
Andrew Goodwin
• The video is extremely voyeuristic due to
Britney’s costumes and dance routines but
this is always how Britney has been perceived
through her musical career due to her star
image (Steve Archers theories).
Andrew Goodwin
• There is a large amount of close ups used
through out the ‘Toxic’ music video. This is
again, to recognise the star image of the artist.
This may also be due to the demands of the
record label.
Andrew Goodwin
• There are also some links between visuals and
lyrics through out the music video, when
referring to toxic it seems the link has been
made with toxic poison which we see Britney
give to a man at the end of the music video,
this creates a narrative for the music video.
Notion of looking
• Like in most pop genre music videos the artist
is seen to be singing to the camera to create a
connection with the audience, which is
something I will take inspiration from when
creating my own music video.
Steve Archer
• In this music video there is both narrative and
performance which is different to the other
music videos that I have analysed. This makes
it seem rare through out pop music videos
therefore I wish to take this into account when
creating my music video due to it seeming
rare. A narrative is used to create a meaning
behind the music video and therefore is trying
to create a connection with the audience.
