The magazine will accordingly focus on metal/new music, local events, and reviews of live performances to engage these educated, social yet hardworking young readers.

Q Magazine was first published in October 1986 by founders Mark Ellen and David Hepworth to provide a magazine for music buyers beyond the younger generations focused on by other publications. It has higher standards for photography and printing than other music magazines and uses an unconventional masthead design on the cover to appeal to its audience that values multiple passions beyond just music.

Emily Spencer outlines the production phases of a magazine project in Photoshop and Word. First, a masthead is cut out from Photoshop and placed in an A4 document. Next, a line is drawn underneath the masthead using the rectangle tool. Then, a photo is opened in Word, made into an oval shape with a blurred border using photo tools, and pasted into the Photoshop document. Departments is then created using "dafont" and the same process of screenshotting and cutting out. Lastly, a contents page is created in Word with different colored fonts and copied into the Photoshop document to complete the contents page.
