Icreativity with a certain mindset that creates a
difference not only in managing the precise operational
process but also ensures that employees are working in a
good work environment. Staunch leaders with a mindset to
innovate adopt a continuous reflection—that is—these
leadership charismas have an answer to their first question,
a thought of their first idea, and the direction which leads to
the successful execution of the project promptly.
Moreover, when employees are actively involved in the
project with an approach of giving their best and noticing
new pieces of information that are potentially important for
the project, the process goes like a radar, endlessly scanning
the environment. With the rapid developments in the ever-
evolving business arena, digitization is spreading its wings
in a transformation that enables augmentation and agility.
Comprehending this scenario, an aspect of a leader is that
the person never shies away from experimenting with
things to figure out the best possible path to achieving their
goals.
Now the advent of technology is providing ease of access to
diverse applications leading to prompt execution of the
project instead of taking a conventional approach to
achieving their shared goals. It is one of the essential traits
of leaders that are constantly working under pressure;
however, it evolves the process involved in the project
execution.
On the other hand, professional development and constant
growth are the only ways for tech leaders to ensure that
things won't get left behind in the fast-paced environment.
These people constantly explore new methods to enhance

13. He shares, “Seeking new opportunities, I relocated to
Australia in 2010, where I assumed the role of VP of Sales
and Business Development at NetComm (acquired by Casa
Systems), where I oversaw market operations in the Middle
East and Southeast Asia for four years.”
Shifting back to the UAE in 2013, he rejoined Etisalat as
the Director of Modern Trade, excelling for over six years.
In the fullness of time, he was appointed as Yalla’s Group
President in 2019. Saifi expresses, “Together with my
dedicated team, we spearheaded the monumental
achievement of leading the company's IPO, positioning us
as the first UAE tech unicorn to be listed on the NYSE.”
These experiences equipped him with a comprehensive
understanding of the telecommunications industry and laid
the groundwork for his future accomplishments.
Leading the Transformation at Yalla Group
In 2019, Saifi assumed the role of Yalla Group's President,
propelling the company toward unprecedented success.
Under his astute leadership, Yalla Group achieved a ground-
breaking milestone by becoming the first UAE-based tech
unicorn to be listed as an IPO on the New York Stock
Exchange (NYSE) in September 2020. This
accomplishment not only signifies the remarkable growth of
Yalla Group but also highlights Saifi's visionary leadership
and strategic acumen.
Stumbling Blocks
Market competition is one of the challenges Saifi faced at
the beginning of his journey, as it requires developing
unique strategies and innovative solutions to stay ahead of
competitors. Other challenges included global expansion, as
working for multinational corporations such as Huawei,
ZTE and Etisalat involved expanding into different regions
and markets. However, adapting to new business
environments, establishing local partnerships and
understanding diverse customer needs were crucial for
growth and success.
Redefining Social Networking and Entertainment
A Platform for Voice-Centric Social Networking
Yalla Group, founded in 2016, has rapidly emerged as a
leading voice-centric social networking and entertainment
platform in the MENA region. Its popularity soared, as
evidenced by its inclusion among the Top 10 most
downloaded apps in January 2019.
Yalla Group's success lies in its ability to connect users
through voice communication, fostering a sense of
community and enabling engaging social interactions.

Leading Technovations with Immersive Approaches
rtificial Intelligence technology has been evolving
Asteadily since the 1950s, but today it is seemingly
"everything, everywhere, all at once," capturing the
imagination of a wider public. People are asking: how will
AI influence the future of technology and society as a
whole?
This is a question Amir Husain has been answering for
decades and with great success. Husain discovered a love
for technology at a very young age and a sense of wonder
about what humanity could do with it. By 17, he earned his
first bachelor's degree in computer science in his hometown
of Lahore, Pakistan. Later on, Amir moved to attend the
University of Texas at Austin. While working toward his
PhD, he dropped out to launch his first startup (based in his
apartment). After selling his first startup, he started a second
one, which merged with an Austin-based hardware
company. He then started SparkCognition, a company that
leverages advanced AI technology in machine learning,
neural networks, natural language processing, and computer
vision for some of the world's largest organizations.
In this interview with Insights Success, Amir shares his
journey so far and his optimism about what an AI-enabled
future holds for all of us.
Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at SparkCognition.
What challenges have you had to overcome to reach
where you are today?
In 2013, I founded SparkCognition. Starting an AI-based
company didn't have the cache that it has today. I
encountered skepticism about ‘machine intelligence,’
particularly the ability of AI to outdo experts in specific
areas related to industrial applications. But I recognized a
huge opportunity: close to $100T of physical infrastructure
in the world, under massive stress from environmental,
productivity, reliability, and ease-of-use concerns.
Industries were awash in data but struggling to capitalize on
it (the signal vs. noise problem).
Computers were more powerful, cheap sensors made
industrial data gathering easier, and storage was getting
more affordable, just as deep learning was having its
moment in the sun. I wanted to apply AI to the challenges
of the physical world, where I believe it has limitless
potential to unlock novel insights from sensors and data,
predict, optimize, and automate processes, and help solve
really meaningful problems.
Today, SparkCognition is redefining how industries operate
and helping organizations address everything from climate
change and renewable energy to defense readiness and
school safety. The wonder I had as a child continues to
propel me today. I want to keep pushing against perceived
boundaries and enhance the world with AI.
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision. What are the qualities and aspects
that make it stand out as a leading company in
providing AI solutions and services?
SparkCognition is truly a global leader in AI software for
business. We are grateful to work with some of the biggest
brands in the world, from Boeing and Airbus in aviation to
bp and Aramco in O&G to Mondalez and Xerox in
manufacturing. Our mission is to deliver world-class AI
solutions that allow organizations to solve their most
critical problems, empowering them to run a more
sustainable, safer, and profitable business.
With our patented AI technologies that leverage machine
learning, deep neural networks, natural language
processing, and computer vision, we enable organizations to
prevent unexpected downtime, augment human
intelligence, maximize asset performance, accomplish net-
zero initiatives, make workplaces and schools safer, stop
cyberattacks—and we’ve only scratched the surface, in my
opinion.
Almost two years ago, we launched HyperWerx, our first-
of-its-kind aerial/terrestrial integration facility dedicated to

financial services, retail, education, cyber, and defense.
We’re productizing the science of AI, bringing SaaS-based,
modular, configurable, repeatable, scalable, extensible, and
explainable solutions to the market.
Describe in detail the values and the work culture that
drives your organization.
Four core values have always driven SparkCognition’s
culture: Own It, Do the Right Thing, Innovate, and Put
Customers First. “Own it” means being accountable for the
outcome. “Do the right thing” is acting respectfully and
ethically at all times. To “innovate,” we must all keep
learning, sharing, and asking “why.” And finally, “put
customers first” always means the customer’s success is our
success.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?

We’ve already begun. SparkCognition Visual AI Advisor
now has 130K+ cameras under contract across 16 countries.
SparkCognition Maritime Shipping Advisor is used to
transport over 3B barrels of oil globally. SparkCognition
Renewable Suite manages 8.5 GW of energy capacity.

SkyGrid, created in partnership with Boeing, is the world’s
first airspace system built on AI and blockchain. The
SkyGrid app is used by over 100K drone users across 100+
countries.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in your sector? How is your company preparing
to be a part of that change?
Generative AI applications, like ChatGPT and others, are
driving tremendous excitement in the space. A wonderful
byproduct of all this attention is more people are learning
how far AI has come. Maybe for the first time, they realize
how transformative AI will be in their everyday lives and
how soon that will happen.
As for language models and the trend of neuro-symbolic
AI—we have been innovating in this area for years. We’ll
have transformative solutions to share with the world this
year, too. This is undoubtedly an era of rapid AI innovation.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for SparkCognition?
Over the next 50 years, this company’s expertise in
generative AI for industrials will address the world’s most
critical business challenges. I want to be instrumental in the
production of clean energy and the delivery of net zero by
2050; to make our cities smarter and more responsive to the
needs of its citizens; to enable autonomous operations of
machines from factories and farms to highways and
skyways; and to augment human abilities, enhancing the
individual experience and eliminating workplace accidents
by 99% by 2040.
We don’t view these goals as aspirational—they are
achievable with our current technologies, know-how, and
experiences. We ask governments, leaders, organizations,
and individuals everywhere to join us to build a better, more
equal, and abundant future for all.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the sector and develop
integrated AI solutions for perpetual betterment?
Focus on solving real problems and delivering real value.
Focus on the long term. Remain humble through this
process and never stop innovating.

Can Enhance the Core Principles
of Leadership?
August 2023 | 20 | www.insightssuccess.com
23. n today's rapidly evolving digital landscape,
Itechnology has become an indispensable tool that has
transformed various aspects of our lives, including the
realm of leadership. It has emerged as a pivotal force that
can significantly enhance the practice of leadership. As
organizations navigate complex challenges and seek to
foster growth, the integration of technology has become
more than just a choice–it's a strategic imperative.
Technology plays a pivotal role in shaping modern
leadership practices and enhancing the effectiveness of
leaders across various domains. It has revolutionized the
way leaders communicate, make decisions, collaborate, and
inspire their teams.
Moreover, the core principles of leadership have remained
timeless, encompassing traits like vision, communication,
adaptability, and empathy. However, the advent of
technology has not only facilitated these principles but has
also introduced new dimensions to effective leadership. In
this article, we will explore how technology can enhance
the core principles of leadership, backed by statistics and
real-world examples.
Ÿ Vision and Strategy:
One of the fundamental principles of leadership is having a
clear vision and developing a strategic plan to achieve it.
Technology empowers leaders to formulate, communicate,
and execute their vision more effectively. According to a
report by PwC, 87% of CEOs believe that technology will
significantly reshape their business strategies within the
next five years.
Example: Elon Musk, the visionary leader behind
companies like Tesla and SpaceX, utilizes technology to
realize his ambitious goals. Through advanced simulations,
data analysis, and AI-driven design, he has accelerated the
development of electric vehicles and space exploration.
Ÿ Communication and Collaboration:
Effective communication is a hallmark of successful
leadership. Technology provides tools that enable seamless
communication and collaboration across geographies and
time zones, fostering transparency and inclusivity within
teams.
Statistics: A survey conducted by Slack in 2021 found that
79% of knowledge workers believe that technology has
improved their ability to communicate with colleagues.
August 2023 | 21 | www.insightssuccess.com
24. Example: Microsoft Teams has emerged as a prominent
platform for remote collaboration. During the COVID-19
pandemic, leaders worldwide turned to such platforms to
ensure uninterrupted communication and coordination
among their teams.
Ÿ Adaptability and Innovation:
Leaders must be adaptable and embrace innovation to thrive
in a constantly changing environment. Technology equips
leaders with data-driven insights and automation that
enhance decision-making and innovation.
Statistics: According to a study by McKinsey, companies
that use data and analytics extensively are 23 times more
likely to acquire customers, six times more likely to retain
customers, and 19 times more likely to be profitable.
Example: Amazon's Jeff Bezos utilized technology to
innovate in the retail sector with concepts like predictive
analytics and personalized recommendations. Amazon's
success demonstrates how technology-driven adaptability
can lead to market dominance.
Ÿ Empathy and Employee Well-being:
Empathy is a vital trait for leaders to connect with their
teams. Technology facilitates a better understanding of
employee well-being through data analysis and digital tools
that promote work-life balance.
Statistics: A survey by Gartner in 2020 revealed that 68% of
HR leaders used technology to measure employee well-
being during the pandemic, compared to 29% before the
crisis.
Example: Salesforce's Marc Benioff prioritized employee
well-being by utilizing technology to assess employee
sentiment and engagement through surveys and analytics.
This approach enabled the company to take targeted actions
to support its workforce.
Ÿ Decision-making and Data-driven Insights
Leaders make critical decisions daily that impact their
organizations. Technology provides access to vast amounts
of data, enabling leaders to make informed decisions
backed by insights.
Statistics: A study by NewVantage Partners found that
97.2% of executives believe that their organizations are
investing in big data and AI to improve decision-making.
Example: IBM's Watson, an AI-powered system, assists
leaders in decision-making by analyzing vast amounts of
data to provide valuable insights. This technology-led
approach enhances the accuracy and speed of decision-
making processes.
Ÿ Accountability and Transparency
In the modern business landscape, transparency and
accountability are crucial for maintaining trust with
stakeholders. Technology offers tools for tracking progress,
performance and accountability across various levels of an
organization.
Statistics: A report by Edelman found that 56% of
employees believe that transparency from leadership is the
most important factor for building employer trust.
Example: Blockchain technology has been utilized by
companies to ensure transparency in supply chains.
Walmart, for instance, used blockchain to trace the origin of
food products, enhancing accountability and authenticity.
In conclusion, technology has emerged as a catalyst for
enhancing the core principles of leadership. From shaping
strategic visions to fostering effective communication and
enabling data-driven decision-making, technology has
revolutionized leadership practices. The statistics and
examples provided in this article highlight how technology
is not merely a tool but a transformative force that
empowers leaders to navigate the complexities of the
modern business landscape. As technology continues to
advance, its integration into leadership practices will be
pivotal in shaping the future of effective and impactful
leadership.

27. A Visionary Tech Leader Driving
Innova on and Business Strategy
ith a keen eye for innovation and an
Wunwavering dedication to driving business
success, Claire Rutkowski is the visionary C-
Level Technology Executive who is transforming the IT
industry with her innovative solutions and business strategy
advancements.
With an impressive track record of delivering creative and
cost-effective solutions, Claire is a true leader in the field of
IT Leadership. Claire's passion for technology and her
unwavering commitment to improving processes to enhance
productivity and save time emerged right after finishing
school. Her successful career is a testament to her
understanding of the importance of adding value, working
hard, and never giving up.
The interview highlights how Claire's exceptional
proficiency in IT Leadership has established her as a
trailblazer in the industry, and how she is leading the way
for the future of technology.
Brief our audience about your journey as a dynamic
leader until your current position at your company.
What challenges have you had to overcome to reach
where you are today?
I wish I could recount a cleverly executed a well-thought-
out plan from the start of my career. However, that is not
the case. I got into technology and IT by accident. When I
was in high school, I wanted to become a lawyer, so in
college, I majored in political science. After college, I took
a year or two off to start making a salary, working at a law
firm before heading to law school. That was about the time
that personal computers were becoming commonplace.
I quickly realized that by using Visual Basic and writing a
few macros, I could save everyone loads of time when
preparing legal documents. I fell in love with
technology—not for technology's sake, but because of how
it could be leveraged to make everyone's lives easier.
Technology can dramatically reduce time spent repetitively
doing manual tasks such searching and replacing, for
instance, and free that time up for deeper thinking and
analytical decision-making. I decided that law school was
not really for me and chose to pursue a career in technology
full-time.
I spent my first few years consulting—building databases
and other technology solutions for a variety of clients, and
eventually settled in at a company in Chicago called Harza
Engineering, which became MWH and then MWH, a
Stantec company. Little did I know that I would stay there
for 19 years, working my way up from an office
productivity specialist to chief information officer (CIO).
I am passionate about helping people. As a CIO, I delivered
IT strategy, services, and support to 7,000 engineering
professionals globally. Looking back, it seems like a natural
progression, but it was more about being lucky enough to
have the ability to make suggestions, and have leadership
that took me up on them, that helped me get ahead.

28. In 2016, I was approached by Bentley Systems about
becoming their CIO. MWH had been a customer of Bentley
Systems for years, and I loved what I saw about the culture
of the organization. So, I jumped at the chance to see things
from a different perspective. I served as CIO at Bentley
Systems for six years, leading a team of 400 IT, logistics,
procurement, vendor management, and financial operations
colleagues.
Just last year, I was given a chance to focus less on internal
matters and more on leveraging my extensive engineering
industry experience by serving as the CIO Champion. This
role allows me to be a bridge between engineering,
architecture, and construction (AEC) firms and Bentley
Systems. I advocate for Bentley's AEC accounts and ensure
that Bentley is providing the thought leadership the AEC
industry needs.
I think one of the biggest challenges I have had to
overcome is being a woman in what is still a male-
dominated industry (engineering is even more male-
dominated than technology). When I became the CIO at
MWH, only 4% of CIOs at AEC firms were women.
Today, that number has risen to 16%. Being in the minority
brings with it all the hurdles that you might expect;
however, having self-confidence and making sure that I had
the expertise to back it up overcame most of them.
Enlighten us on how you have been impacting the
dynamic industry through your expertise in the market.
Serving as the CIO Champion has enabled me to put all my
experience developed over the years in the AEC industry, as
well as the expertise I have as a technology leader, to
meaningful use. I have always been more interested in the
business outcomes that technology can deliver.
I understand the pressures that AEC firms are under and
what they can accomplish when they utilize the right
technology for the task at hand. I also have a deep enough
understanding of the technology itself to see the pivotal role
that it will play in solving some of our biggest infrastructure
challenges for the next generation.
Describe in detail the values and culture that drive your
organization.
Bentley Systems was founded by the Bentley brothers and
is now a publicly traded company with over 5,000
colleagues and over USD 1 billion in revenue annually.
Throughout its almost 40-year history, Bentley has certainly
seen a lot of change, but one value that has not changed is a
focus on respect for one another. The collegial work
environment is what drew me to Bentley in the first place.
I was a Bentley customer before joining the firm, and I
noticed that no matter whom I was speaking with from
Bentley, they always referred to their co-workers and team
members as colleagues, never employees. That consistency
of respect said a lot to me when I chose Bentley. It shows
up in individual autonomy, the ability to voice one's opinion
and make decisions, and the opportunity to function on and
lead empowered teams. Another value is putting our users
first.
We demonstrate this in a variety of ways—from our
products to our colleagues' domain expertise in
infrastructure engineering to our quantitative and qualitative
surveys to ensure that we are consistently exceeding
expectations. We feel accountable to our users and accounts
on every level.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you advancing towards
technological innovations to make your solutions
resourceful?
It has never been a more exciting time to be in both the
technology and infrastructure spaces. There are so many
pressures on the infrastructure sector to do more with less
that technology adoption and change have accelerated
dramatically. During design, companies are using drones
and LiDAR to quickly capture the existing world, which is
much more efficient and accurate than traditional surveying
techniques.
Subsurface ground penetrating radar is regularly used to
locate pipes and other existing utilities, even through
concrete. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic can be simulated.
Storms, flooding, and other weather conditions can be
modelled to ensure that an asset can stand up to local
conditions.
Companies are also leveraging digital twins to create visual
representations of their designs, which engage owners,
operators, and citizen stakeholders alike to save rework and
accelerate procurement and construction. New tools—such
as 3D printing (in concrete) and robotics—are being used to
make construction more efficient, and wearable devices are
helping people stay safe on the job site. Operating and
maintaining a piece of infrastructure has also been made
August 2023 | 26 | www.insightssuccess.com
29. safer and easier through the application of technology.
New infrastructure is being built with embedded sensors,
using edge computing to alert owners to changes in
conditions, such as an increase in heat or a rise in water
levels. Drones and photogrammetry can help conduct asset
condition inspections for rust on steel girders, cracks in
bridges and dams, and obstacles on railroad tracks, which is
safer than manual inspections. Bentley Systems is
leveraging all this technology in its solutions, creating a
data-centric, data-rich environment for digital twin
representations of critical infrastructure.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in your sector? How is your company preparing
to be a part of that change?
The infrastructure sector is already undergoing a digital
transformation and is changing the way assets are designed,
built, and operated. We are already using digital twins not
only as visual representations of the as-designed and as-
built worlds but also as a mechanism for knitting together
disparate data sets.
We see data-rich models being used to construct and
operate assets, leveraging sensors and other remote tools to
facilitate their maintenance. However, design is still a time-
consuming process. I believe that because the demand for
infrastructure is higher than we can keep up with, our next
big shift will be the more widespread adoption of truly
generative design, not just of individual components but of
systems.
Traditional design is a very manual and labor-intensive
process generative design leverages AI and cloud
computing to enable engineers and designers to input all the
constraints and desired outcomes and then generate
multiple options that meet those requirements. It is already
being used in architecture to create concept designs, in
manufacturing on individual components as well as at the
component level for individual parts of the infrastructure.
However, as AI develops further, I believe we will explore
the ability to handle more constraints, more outcomes, and
more complex scenarios—creating greater efficiencies for
design firms and delivering better outcomes to society.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for the organization?
Figuring out ways to apply technology to improve
efficiency and deliver better outcomes has always been a
key driver at work for me, and I expect that to continue.
I hope to be helping AEC firms advance their digital
strategies so that they can deliver infrastructure services
faster and more effectively while producing better designs
that increase sustainability and lower our carbon footprint.
I am also interested in helping our users conceive of and
deliver more transformational solutions and new revenue
streams so that together, we can continue advancing
infrastructure and meeting the needs of the world's
population.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the dynamic industry?
The infrastructure sector is a dynamic space and is
changing rapidly, so come and join us! You will find a
sector that is hungry for technology solutions that drive
efficiency without sacrificing quality.
You will find an ecosystem of consultants, providers,
owners, and operators who are increasingly joining forces
and working together to help deliver projects more quickly,
safely, and with higher quality than ever before.
We like the idea of being responsible for providing clean
drinking water, energy, shelter, and transportation. We are
highly collaborative and are always looking for ways to
make a difference.

31. Trends in Tech
Future Innovations in the
Realm of AI and Data
Analytics
n the annals of technological advancement, few fields
Ihave experienced as much rapid evolution as Artificial
Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics. The symbiotic
relationship between these two realms has brought forth
transformative innovations that have reshaped industries
and redefined possibilities. As we stand at the threshold of a
new era, the trajectory of AI and Data Analytics promises a
future where machines possess not just intelligence, but
understanding; where data isn't just collected, but
deciphered for profound insights. This article delves into
the exciting innovations that await us in this dynamic
intersection, offering a glimpse into a world where AI and
Data Analytics revolutionize everything from healthcare to
environmental conservation.
Ÿ Cognitive AI: From Intelligence to Understanding
AI's evolution has primarily focused on replicating human
intelligence, culminating in systems that can process vast
datasets and perform complex tasks. However, the future
lies in the transition from mere intelligence to genuine
understanding. Cognitive AI, a nascent concept, seeks to
imbue machines with human-like comprehension, enabling
them to perceive context, infer emotions and make nuanced
decisions. This innovation will propel chatbots beyond
scripted responses, allowing them to empathize with users,
comprehend sarcasm and tailor interactions accordingly.
Example: A cognitive AI-driven virtual therapist can detect
not only the words spoken by a patient but also the
underlying emotional cues, offering personalized
therapeutic responses that resonate on a deeper level.
Ÿ Explainable AI: Bridging the Transparency Gap
As AI infiltrates critical domains like healthcare and
finance, the 'black-box' nature of its decision-making raises
August 2023 | 29 | www.insightssuccess.com
32. concerns about transparency and accountability.
Explainable AI (XAI) is the antidote to this opacity,
ensuring that AI's decisions are intelligible to humans. This
innovation will enable professionals to trust AI-driven
insights and, more importantly, understand the reasoning
behind them.
Example: In the medical field, XAI can elucidate why a
certain diagnosis was made, granting doctors the confidence
to endorse AI suggestions and enhancing patient care.
Ÿ Federated Learning: Empowering Data Privacy
The growing emphasis on data privacy has led to a paradox:
while organizations need vast datasets to train AI models,
individuals are wary of their personal information being
exploited. Federated Learning tackles this dilemma by
enabling model training across distributed devices without
centralizing data. This innovation allows AI models to learn
from various sources while keeping sensitive information
localized, thereby enhancing privacy.
Example: Smartphone users collectively improve an AI's
language translation capabilities by training it on their
devices, without ever sharing individual texts or
compromising privacy.
Ÿ Automated Machine Learning (AutoML):
Democratizing Expertise
Traditionally, building AI models required specialized
expertise, limiting their accessibility. AutoML seeks to
democratize AI by automating the model-building process,
allowing domain experts without extensive coding skills to
create and fine-tune models.
Example: A biologist can leverage AutoML to develop an
AI model that identifies rare plant species from images
without having to be an AI expert.
Ÿ Prescriptive Analytics: Beyond Insights to Action
While predictive and descriptive analytics have paved the
way for informed decision-making, prescriptive analytics
takes the leap from insights to action. This innovation
doesn't just foresee outcomes but recommends the best
course of action to optimize those outcomes, offering a
more holistic approach to data-driven decision-making.
Example: Supply chain managers can utilize prescriptive
analytics to anticipate disruptions and receive actionable
suggestions to mitigate potential issues, ensuring smooth
operations.
Ÿ AI in Environmental Conservation: A Greener
Tomorrow
The impact of AI and Data Analytics is not limited to
business realms; it extends to addressing global challenges.
In environmental conservation, AI is poised to become a
game-changer. By analyzing ecological data and satellite
imagery, AI can track deforestation, predict natural
disasters, and monitor endangered species' habitats,
enabling targeted interventions for a sustainable future.
Example: AI-powered drones equipped with cameras and
sensors can monitor remote rainforests, identifying illegal
logging activities and helping authorities combat
deforestation.
Ÿ Quantum AI: Supercharging Possibilities
As the potential of AI grows, so does the complexity of the
problems it aims to solve. Quantum AI marries the
computational power of quantum computers with AI's
pattern recognition and decision-making capabilities,
opening doors to solving hitherto insurmountable
challenges in fields like drug discovery, materials science
and cryptography.
Example: Quantum AI could revolutionize drug
development by rapidly simulating molecular interactions,
drastically accelerating the process of finding new
medications.
Conclusion
The synergy between AI and Data Analytics is poised to
define the future landscape of innovation, offering solutions
that were once confined to the realm of science fiction. As
AI evolves from being intelligent to truly understanding,
and Data Analytics progresses from insights to actions, our
world will be reshaped across sectors. From enhancing user
experiences to preserving the environment and driving
scientific discovery, the possibilities are limited only by our
imagination. The future beckons us to embrace these
innovations and embark on a journey where the lines
between human ingenuity and machine intelligence
continue to blur.

34. The Metaverse is Changing
How We Build and Maintain the
World’s Infrastructure
-- And theTools Can Fit inYour Backpack
ollaborating on infrastructure design in the
Cmetaverse is not a concept based far in the future.
In fact, thanks to game engine technology, it is
happening right now and it is building momentum.
Design teams are working openly using a range of devices
with technology from Unreal Engine, Omniverse, and
Unity, among others. These game engines are not only
boosting the computational power needed to take a 3D
model to a seamless 4D spatial experience, they are
working toward interoperability for real-time exchange of
assets between products or platforms, without loss of
fidelity or function. This open exchange leads to innovation,
problem-solving, and an overall new sense of teamwork
culture in construction design and delivery.
You could say that gaming tech is leveling up productivity,
efficiency, and even profitability for the built environment.
Last April, Epic Games – maker of Unreal Engine –
announced that it had raised $2 billion to invest in
developing a kid-friendly metaverse. The partnership with
Epic and Lego aims to create a safe space for children in the
metaverse where physical and digital worlds connect for
limitless creative possibilities (TechCrunch). But Epic’s
influence on creating in the real world doesn’t stop at
plastic bricks. With its 2022 money equity valuation of
$31.5 billion, Epic is investing millions in designing
compatible solutions for architects, engineers, and
construction managers to build real, life-sized infrastructure
using the metaverse.
In a mixed reality experience, using digital twin technology,
organizations take advantage of gaming engines to redesign
cities, tour factories, or, in the case of the ITER project,
build the largest fusion experiment of all time. All while
operating on a variety of platforms, virtually, from locations
around the world.
It starts with having a digital twin plug-in that links
construction design models to a metaverse experience.
A digital twin, in simple terms, is a digital representation of
the real environment that is updated continuously with live
data. An open platform like iTwin brings in all the
engineering data of a 3D model, then adds 4D digital
context with reality and spatial modeling. It is the game
engine technology that turns that data and complex
modeling into an immersive world with lighting, textures,
and depth in the metaverse.
Compared to other uses of the metaverse, what makes the
infrastructure industry so unique is there is already a 3D
model behind every structure. With engineers building
models every day, there is never a shortage of content for
the metaverse.
Designing and building in the virtual environment is
proving to save time and money on some very large-scale
projects. When an engineer or construction manager steps
onto the virtual job site, the experience is seamless, with
data updating in real time via strategically placed sensors at
the physical job site. They can see what has changed, track
progress, and can click on an object to retrieve
specifications and other information much more quickly
than scanning a standard spec sheet.

36. And people don’t need to be “technical” to use this
technology. Gaming platforms make access to data so
versatile, that a project engineer working out of trailer and
surrounded by 200-foot cranes and 50-ton bulldozers can go
from using a tablet to run daily analysis at the physical job
site to wearing a HoloLens to see into the future of the
project lifecycle in 4D. Experiencing the long-term effects
of design decisions, before they happen – perhaps a
concrete pillar begins to crack – let’s builders make changes
in the present to mitigate risk.
The open platform, collaborative environment of the
infrastructure metaverse also addresses productivity
challenges and the negative effects of isolation faced by
remote workers. Conducting a walk-through of a power
grid becomes a lot more interesting and effective when
remote participants can see and hear each other in the
metaverse.
Virtual and augmented reality experiences connect
colleagues in a way that ignites creativity and knowledge-
sharing, and inspires them to bring a higher level of
engagement to the project. In one recent study out of
UCLA, scientists noted how virtual reality creates a
stronger “theta rhythm” brain wave that may positively
affect how the brain learns and retains sensory information
(Neuroscience News). A higher level of engagement results
in better engineering decisions that can lead to increased
safety and efficiency on the physical build. The metaverse
even lends itself to networking among peers to deepen
relationships for future projects.
Avoiding Metaverse Pitfalls
Is there a downside to building infrastructure in the
metaverse? Not really. Sure, not everyone is able to afford a
TESLASUIT (nor will they need one). And, for everyday
use, wearable devices have sometimes received low marks
for comfort: clunky wired headsets and vision-induced
motion sickness have been a problem. It is true that these
pitfalls have challenged adoption.
But now headsets are wireless, more comfortable and
affordable, and smaller, which also makes them more
portable. As far as motion sickness is concerned,
applications are now dialing in the right frame rates – the
number of frames per second that the human eye sees – to
help create that realistic, but sensory-friendly experience.
Sometimes the effects of depth perception in an application
is so realistic, it can be a bit jarring. Like when engineers
and planners go about their day inside the 3D model of the
ITER Tokomak – considered one of the most ambitious
scientific endeavors in size and scope – a walk around the
top of the 60-meter-tall structure can make them feel like
they should watch their step.
In the last year, interest in the metaverse, its challenges and
benefits, has grown exponentially. Gaming engine
technology is paving the way to limitless opportunity, and
we can count on the fact that organizations are opting in to
the metaverse to build the future of infrastructure, with
tools that they can carry around in a backpack.

38. Re-defining the Attributes
of Excellence
ransformational leaders focus on helping members
Tof the group support one another and provide them
with the support, guidance, and inspiration they
need to work hard, perform well, and stay loyal to the
group. The primary goals of transformational leaders are to
inspire growth, promote loyalty, and instil confidence.
These are the attributes that define Janne Kuivalainen,
CTO with Danfoss Drives.
Janne Kuivalainen has covered areas from system integrator
sales to project engineering and from R&D teams to
combined product management and development
organizations. The key to overcoming the challenges has
been staying customer focused. And this has been important
in all jobs he has had.
It keeps you on the right track and helps to convey
sustainable direction setting into the organization during
transformations. Another area that he found useful was
being curious to expand his knowledge and dare to try out
new things. Then you know what works and what does not.
And it also helps to you can lead by example. Teamwork
brings results and building the right teams for the right tasks
and networking externally and internally are important to
me. And results are delivered when there is a focus.
Keeping focus in today’s rapidly changing world is one
kind of challenge itself and it requires solid strategy with
agility. One needs to have a big picture in mind while
setting measurable goals with short enough pivoting options
as we learn as we go. This feedback loop is also very
important to Janne on a personal level. It’s an effective
learning mechanism to get feedback from the people around
you.
In an interview with Insights Success, Janne shares valuable
facts highlighting his professional tenure in the niche.
Below are the excerpts from the interview:
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision; how does your company thrive
towards enabling advancements in the modern
industry?
Danfoss is a Danish family-owned company focusing on
businesses getting more out of less by rethinking our energy
systems and using our energy smarter. We have nearly
42,000 employees and sales in more than 100 countries and
factories in more than 20 countries.
Our purpose is to decarbonize with our customers and
create long-term value. Our unique products and solutions
provide real value to our customers toward decarbonization
in an intelligent and cost-efficient way. As a family-owned
company, we intentionally focus on the longer view.
And we are living it! Electrification is one megatrend that
we are heavily investing in. We electrify mobile working
machines in the maritime industry, help hybridization in
various industries and finally Semikron-Danfoss is a strong
player developing and delivering innovative solutions for
automotive applications.
Digitalization is another megatrend where we want to be
the preferred partner of our customers when it comes to
improving solutions to deliver more with less with the help
of simulation and modelling. We have had physical
application development centres for co-innovation with
customers for a long time, but now we have added digital
dimensions to them.
Enlighten us on how you have been impacting the
industrial and electrical equipment niche through your
expertise in the market.
To me making an impact on the market is a combination of
the right timing and type of action. One good example is

39. market data analysis about the industrial ethernet market
penetration. I was heading one project more than 20 years
back where we did the very first industrial product with
integrated industrial ethernet connectivity, with a bit lag of
market demand, but it was targeted for innovators.
With another product and platform and almost a decade
later it was clearly to support early adopters but also to be
prepared for early majority phase of the market
development.
Those were calm steps, but enablers for digitalization at the
field device level. Today, the essence is to have an adaptable
and maintainable software platform with advanced
simulation capabilities and versatile and secure data
connectivity to enable fast co-innovation with customers.
Describe in detail the values and the work culture that
drives your organization.
Mads Clausen, founder of the company, said once “Action
speaks louder than words,” and I like it very much. We need
to dare to change, and it means action next to planning.
Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity in today’s
world is to stay. My response is to become learning
organization.
Open and inspiring working environment where people can
safely challenge the status quo and celebrate successes and
failures as learning opportunities is a must. But it comes
also with responsibility to drive own development and
organizing work in a way that ownership of deliverables is
clear with end-to-end accountability to ensure right
business outcomes.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
Everything starts from the customer’s needs – technology is
enabler to value. In our business, variable speed drives and
power electronics, we can help our customers with more
and more advanced solutions in energy efficiency and
customer process effectiveness.

40. Technology levers in energy efficiency are new materials
helping to minimize power losses and control algorithms,
and the system efficiency is what counts for our customers –
not the component level – and that is why we invest in
application specific know-how.
And the later part is also important in improving the
effectiveness. For example, increasing computing power
with reasonable costs is enabling edge computing
functionalities with our products allowing us to introduce
condition-based monitoring functionalities helping our
customers to optimize availability of their processes.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in your sector? How is your company preparing
to be a part of that change?
The next significant change is ongoing readily and its
sustainability. We are in the sustainability business – our
solutions are very much at the core of energy efficiency and
green transition.
And we are a long-term partner to our customers and
suppliers around the world. In that sense, ESG is not new to
us, but it clearly shapes us and motivates us to make a step-
change here. We have three main initiatives
decarbonization, circularity, and diversity and inclusion.
Decarbonization is very much helping our customers to
decarbonize, which I referred to earlier, and also making
our own operations carbon neutral. Circular solutions are an
important part of our business, and we have a strong service
business readily to extend the lifetime of our products; and
next step is to invest more in tools, processes, and
methodologies to minimize an environmental load of
materials used.
About people. Our foundation is high-performing, diverse
teams. As a global company, we have found out a long time
ago about the power of diversity. But it’s clear that there are
other dimensions as well; for example, we have formed
employee resource groups to shape the culture and foster
inclusion.
With another product and platform and
almost a decade later it was clearly to
support early adopters but also to be
prepared for early majority phase of the
market development.”
August 2023 | 38 | www.insightssuccess.com
41. Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for Danfoss Drives?
I want to deliver solutions that help customers to become
even better-performing companies. And I want to do that by
building winning organizations that can learn and adapt to
changing business landscapes. By following these
objectives, I am evaluating emerging opportunities when
they come.
This has brought me here, and I believe it also carries me in
the future. In this CTO & Head of technology role with our
newly organized Danfoss Drives, I have a purposeful task
to do to ensure that we will be the preferred decarbonization
partner to our customers. Our business is really in the center
of green transition, and I do my best so that we would be
even better known about it.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the industrial and electrical
equipment niche?
Our industry is producing physical products and industrial
capital goods. It typically means heavy investments to get
started. And as products has often over 10 years of lifetime,
lifecycle services are playing an important role in many
industries we serve.
That said, for entrepreneurs targeting to go for a product
business, selection of sub-segment and application with the
right differentiation and finding the right innovators among
customers, becomes a critical success factor next to
securing funding to get there.
Alternatively, as data and digitalization are playing a bigger
and bigger role in value-add, and today’s products are
producing a lot of data with better interfaces and data
access including security, this opens new dimensions in
benefitting from application-specific know-how. The key is
really insight into applications and customer value drivers.
Applying AI or ML directly into industrial processes
without prior knowledge about the value drivers to create
new novel value-adding solutions will not be easy. But
combining insights of process know-how and new novel
technologies like AI or ML can potentially create new
valuable solutions in various industries and applications.
