Editor's Notes

  • #3 The Theoretical Framework is Learning 2.0
  • #20 College education is moving beyond the dissemination of content toward a more holistic view. Looking at individual university courses and/or programs, we can see that there are at least three major components necessary for students to achieve each learning objective: -- Resources related to the learning objective(s), which can be print-based, web-based, or multimedia files, such as text files, animations, web pages, audiotaped and/or videotaped lectures, traditional textbooks and journals, and so on -- Activities related to the learning objective(s), which can be individual, small-group or large group activities to encode or retain the skill or knowledge. These activities range from homework assignments to participation in discussion forums, from blogging as an individual reflective activity to participation in wikis as a collaborative group activity to solve problems or to create a document. There are quite a few more... -- Assessment strategies related to the learning objective(s), which include rubrics or other evaluation guidelines used in conjunction with written work, observable field work, etc.; online quizzes and tests; electronic portfolio assessment; and more.
