This document discusses tools that can help people make choices. It describes how choices involve weighing multiple options and factors from different perspectives, which makes choices complex. An ideal choice management system would help people gather relevant information on their options and factors to consider, see how options compare on important factors, and get input from others. The document outlines features such systems could have and information people want when making choices. It argues we can make better choices with mindfulness and by managing choices as projects. Technology offers potential to develop new tools that support the choice-making process.

LSCTIG 2015 Session Materials - Shop Smart: How a Formal Procurement Process can Safeguard Your Investment
Buying a major system, such as phones or CMS, or hiring a consultant to help deploy technology can be a hit or miss experience. We all want to avoid the fiascos. In this session, we’ll discuss the best ways to identify and evaluate vendors and discuss some key strategies for ensuring that major system implementations return the results that you’re looking for. Topics will include Requests for Information and Proposals; what to look for in a demo or interview; negotiating contracts and engaging your co-workers in the project.
By Idealware—Your senior staff and board of directors can benefit from the ability to view high level metrics for your organization, but it’s not obvious how to easily pull such a thing together. We'll outline what has worked for other organizations to define the metrics that should be tracked, strategies for compiling data from different systems, and then possibilities for putting it all together into a visual dashboard.
This webinar will review online intake, what it is, how it fits in the delivery of legal services continuum, and share two models of how two different programs have implemented it. Our examples from WA and NH will cover how online intake overlaps with telephonic intake and in person intake and how these programs manage online intake to promote access to legal services. We will then discuss the nuts and bolts of what legal non-profits need to be aware of and know before they start an online intake from a technology point of view. We will wrap up with an example of how to use intake data to facilitate and support regional resource allocation and collaboration across agencies as a way to promote systemic regional advocacy and effective resource allocation. The training will be helpful for those considering online intake projects, or for groups already doing online intake who are looking for examples/ideas of how other groups are maximizing the potential of online intake and its fruits. Attendees are strongly encourages to review prior online intake presentations available at (http://lsntap.org/Internet_Intake_Webcasts) as background, but not required.
How to plan a website and intranet -- from assessment and audit, to strategic and functional planning (including information architecture), content management, design, search engine optimization (SEO), and ROI and business case development.

SharePoint Group Therapy Expanded Edition - SPEngage Phoenix 2017Jim Adcock
SharePoint Engage Phoenix 2017, March 14, 2017
This expanded edition of SharePoint Group Therapy incudes content from the SharePoint Governance 101 session to level-set conference attendees understanding of SharePoint Governance with new interactive exercises before deep-diving into their governance issues.
What does governance mean in SharePoint? How do you get to good governance? Do you really need governance? What happens if you don’t have governance, or do it poorly?
Bring your questions and Jim will bring his experience building SharePoint governance in multiple organizations. We’ll discuss governance basics and help get you going in the right direction.
Do your users complain about the usability of your SharePoint? Do you suffer from site proliferation? Rights management issues? Content inaccuracy and staleness? Can you easily tell who owns the content of a particular site or list? Is your SharePoint out of control? Then you might benefit from SharePoint Therapy. At the very least, this class will give you a free hour of therapy, giving you a chance to vent about your (SharePoint) problems in a roomful of sympathetic listeners.
The instructor will act as therapist and help move participants past their trauma and regain a sense of control through Governance.
Since the goal of therapy is to actually make things better, you should bring your questions and be prepared to share personal experiences regarding SharePoint governance (and its absence) and aligning your business objectives with SharePoint. We will discuss:
•What problems are you having in your environment?
•What fears do you have about implementing governance?
•What fears do you have about implementing SharePoint?
We’ll talk roles and responsibilities, stakeholder involvement, when to fit your organizational culture and when to change it using both carrots and sticks – training, enforcement & business alignment.
Business alignment can be seen as the marriage of IT and business objectives. Every marriage has its rocky moments, and sometimes a therapist is needed to resolve those issues. Perhaps your marriage could benefit from a little SharePoint Group Therapy?

always fully equipped to ask the correct questions, and might even
lack the required technical knowledge. This talk will demonstrate
the importance of considering input from others when setting
up your own RFP as this can save time and money – the risks
of not identifying all potential pitfalls at RFP stage can be time-

PASS Business Analytics 2015 - Most organizations lack an approach that lets them specify their requirements for BI or for analytics more broadly. Their ability to find opportunities for, and successfully use, more advanced analytics is limited. In this session, James Taylor will introduce decision modeling with DMN, a new standards-based approach to modeling decisions. He will introduce the core concepts of the approach and show how it can be used to drive more effective requirements for BI, dashboard and analytic projects. Attendees will learn how to begin with the decision in mind, defining their BI requirements in terms of the decision-making they need to improve.
Anyone that works with data downstream in an organization has seen things go...wrong, while upstream managers and business leaders are being held accountable. Whether it's a failure in process, or something technically goes wrong, working with data is not always easy. What happened? How can we prevent it from happening again? What's next?
This talk, given at the Portland Data Science Group on October 27, 2016, uncovers 4 common foibles of working with organizational data.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

15. Hi folks, I am looking into a new case management system for the Law Center. I'd
like to do some initial research into our options and pricing as we are budgeting for

quick note with the name of the program and anything you can tell me about what
you particularly like or dislike about it. You can email me at … . Thanks for your
help! Apologies to those who receive this request over multiple lists.
We are considering using Vidyo as an office web
conferencing solution over Polycom. Has anyone in the
community used Vidyo as a solution?
If so what is your feedback/ pros and cons.

Mimecast for anti- spam after a disastrous Postini/Google switch.
Anyone using either one? And like them or not!
Has anyone … ?

• What do I need to know and do to make a good choice?
• What are my options? (Have I missed any good ones?)
• What factors should I pay attention to? (Have I missed any important
ones?)
• Which factors are most important?
• How do the options compare on the important factors? (features and
ratings)
• How significant are the differences? (scores)
• How does everything stack up? (What’s the balance of tradeoffs?)
• Where can I get more information? Who can help me? (Find more
options, factors, ratings, opinions, reviews …)

51. In Conclusion
• A lot of our choices are not well made
• We can do better
• Good choices begin with mindfulness

but also about how you’re choosing
• Choices are projects that need management
• Technology can help
• We need new tools

When you faced a decision, you could
– Easily create a custom choice support environment
– Share it online with colleagues and other participants
– Draw on pre-existing and evolving info and insights
– Filter and sort through your options as you learn
