DEFINITIONS
TOEFL is a test designed for students who are
ready to prove that they have the ability to live
and study in an English environment. Many
English speaking schools and colleges require a
TOEFL score from ESL students to apply to a
program. The Test evaluates the student’s ability
to read, speak and write in academic English.
TOEFL has three formats. The most new and
popular is Internet based test, but not all the test
centers can offer you to pass iBT. Before
preparing check what type of the TOEFL is
              available in your area.
The Purpose of
  TOEFL Test
The purpose of the TOEFL test is to evaluate
the English proficiency of people who are
      non-native English speakers. In
           addition, international
          companies, government
    agencies, scholarship programs, and
recruitment agencies use TOEFL scores to
        evaluate English proficiency.
TOEFL
Formats
          Paper-Based & Computer-Based TOEFL
The computer-based test is very similar to the original paper-based.
CBT was presented in 1998, but today centers in remote areas that
do not have the opportunity to offer computer-based test, paper
based test is still used. In listening section of CBT, students use
headphones instead of a tape. CBT is also convenient as students can
see how much time them spend on each question and how much
time is left. In this type of TOEFL students can not go back to
previous question and it contains more "types" of questions.
Computer-based test also supposes a tutorial which shows students
how to answer the questions properly. The total time for paper-
based test is 2.5 hours, for CBT – approx. 4 hours (including
                                  tutorials).
Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT)

Internet-based test was designed in 2005 to replace both previous
versions of the test. It is gradually becoming available worldwide. In
comparison with paper and computer-based tests, it has such
changes: the elimination of the structure section, and the addition
of the speaking and writing section. One more task was added -
integrated tasks that require the test taker to combine more than
one skill. A goal of TOEFL iBT remains unchanged in comparison
with the paper- and computer-based tests. A TOEFL iBT score
measures the communication skills of those who wish to enter
a schools or universities where English is the native language.
