2. Mayan Calendar Research Paper
There are around forty different calendars used in the world today, usually for determining pious
or religious events. Many countries like the United States use the Gregorian calendar for their
official and modern activities which they are able to keep everyone organized. Over a thousand
years ago in the fifth century the Mayans came out with the first calendars. There are three types
of basic calendars that are being used today they are solar, lunar and the lunisolar/solilunar
calendars. A solar calendar can be identified by the Sun. This calendar is also based on Earths orbit
around the Sun. Lunar calendars are based on the moonrotation around the Earth. This type of
calendar is used usually for religious dates or purposes (InpaperMagazine 2013). On the other
hand, lunisolar or solilunar calendars connect the two kinds and is basically solar calendars with
dates indicating a moon phase. The oldest known calendar was made by the Mayans. The Mayans
of Central America relied not only on the Sun and moon, but also on the planet Venus (Misiroglu

3. Video Game Culture Over The Youth Of The Nation
With the video game culture taking over the youth of the nation it s easy to forget where the
beginning of this colossal enterprise started. With the lack of video games in the past the
original family games started with classic board games resembling Monopoly and life. These
timeless games gave birth to their own culture that allowed players to become immersed in
fantasy worlds. This included the creation of games like Dungeons Dragons which would spawn
its own generation of gamers. Recently the popularity in these fantasy, and strategy based games
has been growing. The reasons that is drawing groups to participate in an archaic form of
gaming is unclear. It s imperative to understand why this subculture gaining in popularity, and
how it s attracting people with the lure of mages and spells. During my initial visits to my filed
location I have observed how the building was laid out, some of the unspoken rules of the
community, and how different groups of board gamers frequent the location. Without knowing
what to observe first during I decided that I would get a good idea on how the building was laid
out. I decided to arrive to the gaming store on a Saturday at noon. I was hoping that this would
give me a chance to observe a smaller crowd of the culture separate from the massive amount of
people that would show up for the tournament style gaming. Thinking that the location would be
less populated on a Saturday was a mistake. After walking into the main lobby with five

4. Comparing Two Different Versions Of A Cinderella Story
There are two different versions of a Cinderella story. There is a French version and a German
version. The two stories have a lot of similarities as far as the theme and the way the story plays
out for Cinderella. It also has a lot of similarities in the magical transformations. The stories teach to
treat others as how you would want to be treated. To begin with, the two Cinderellastories have the
same evil stepmother and stepsisters. In the German version there is a quote that shows Cinderella
had a very bad stepmom, They were beautiful, with fair faces, but evil and dark hearts. Time grew
very bad for the stepchild. These quotes show that the two Cinderella s had terrible stepmothers and

there were two white pigeons that carried her dress in instead of using magic to transform her into

Miyazaki. Originally released in Japan in 2001 to great fanfare, Disney translated an English

went on to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the Golden Bear Award at the
International Film Festival in 2003, and has become the most successful film in Japanese history
to date. The story focuses on a young, ten year old girl named Chihiro, who in the beginning

dramatic of scenes includes an ancient stink spirit who arrives in search of its ritual cleaning.

How do people support these ideas? What would improve the educational system using these ideals?
In today s field of education, there is a transparent division between the data driven outside group
of education reformist, and the day to day inside group who facilitates the educational standards
and curriculum. Members of the outside group are often criticized for their apparent one size fits
all; standardized model of education. Many outside appointed officials boast about the continued
growth in student achievement from an analytical standard, while many teachers ask but at what

in their everyday life? If education continues to follow the model of the outsiders , then students
and teachers will continue to simply cram for the test.
What are the issues of school improvement? What suggestions for solutions are possible?
With the modern trend in student and teacher accountability, the art of teaching is slowly becoming
lost. The primary objectives of the Department of Education, school districts, teachers and students

the beliefs of past educators where strengthening a teacher s instructional strategies would surely

Fraud can occur in many ways, either through the loss of a credit card or through other fraudulent
applications by the perpetrator. We also describe the perpetrators along with some characteristics
common to fraudsters. The hope in this paper is to build more awareness to the reader about this
growing problem and to offer insight which will aid individuals and merchants from becoming
victims of credit card fraud.
Statistics from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) show that credit card
fraud has reached the $1 billion mark and is growing. By the end of 2007, it is expected to reach
the $3 billion mark in the US alone ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). The availability of shopping over
the internet has raised new concerns. Internet shopping continues to grow and there has been a 22
percent increase in spending in 2005 as compared to spending in 2004 ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104).
Total internet spending has reached $143.2 billion in 2005 and surveys have shown that about 90
percent of all internet purchases are paid online with a credit card. Fraud occurs on approximately 5
percent of all internet purchases. What makes the internet so susceptible to fraud is the lack of face
to face interaction with the fraudster, which allows for more anonymity and makes prevention and
detection more difficult. During 2006, there were 207,492 complaints filed online with the Internet
Crime Complaint Center [18] IC3 (2006, p. 3). During 2006, internet auction

The End of the Tour directed by James Ponsoldt follows the story of an interview done by David
Lipsky about David Wallace. The all the scenes in this movie are very intimate and give the
feeling that they viewer is right there as a fly on the wall. This feeling is very important for this
movie because David Wallace is a very private and socially awkward person. These scenes reflect
his preference of social settings in his famous and private life. A quote from the movie that contains

It is ironic that his big break comes from a book about Wallace s life, one which Wallace would
probably not approved of being published in his life time. A cut between scenes that captured
the soul of this movie is when Lipsky is holding his book signing and the director choose to
show the shot of Wallace care free dancing with the Baptists. This is also one of the final scenes
in the movie, which is appropriate because it begins with Wallace s suicide and ends with a time
and moment in his life he felt the most alive. A big theme in this film is loneliness and more
importantly the fear of abandonment. Wallace does not let himself open up in fear of being
abandoned or rejected, when he does have friends weather that be an ex girlfriend, dog or car
Wallace proved himself loyal and would not change or dessert them. That fierce guard is part of
the reason I don t think a viewer could classify Lipsky and Wallace friends. From the beginning
of the movie we know that Lipsky is not the most faithful with the women in his life, Wallace is
sensitive to that and knows that if he opens up to him he could betray him like he did others in the
past. When Wallace finally feels them moving on the path of friendship Lipsky goes and flirts with

In excess of 600 billion dollars has been spent on the war in Iraq since it began in 2003, plus over
four thousand U.S. troops have died because of this war, and despite a struggling economy the
US government is keeping our troops in Iraq with no end in sight. The war in Iraq is a current
military operation that began, without a declaration of war, on March 20, 2003 and is still taking
place today in 2009(Thompson). Americans have been shielded from this war and have forgotten
why we went to war in the first place. Thus clarification is needed by the American public on why
the invasion on Iraqwas baseless, how the mismanagement is affecting our soldiers and what the
overall end result could be. Prior to the war, the governments of the United Statesand the United
Kingdom declared Iraq was suspected to possession weapons of mass destruction and this posed
an imminent danger to our security and our allies. The American public was led to believe that
Saddam Hussein had significant stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction and was equipped to
use them. Following the terror of September 11th by al Qaeda, the American public was
apprehensive of another vicious attack, and President Bush used this fear to justify his revenge
on Saddam Hussein. These weapons were one of the key reasons the public believed why we
were going to war in Iraq; however, in six years no such weapons have been located. Furthermore,

11. The Inferno And What Dante
Introduction
This paper critically analyzes the character Dante in the Comedia. The paper analyzes the nature of
the journey in the Inferno and what Dante needed to learn from it. The changes that were
experienced have been analyzed in addition to the important parts of the text that are related to the
changes. Moreover, the discussion has been keen to provide relevant illustrations as the case may
be in order to emphasize on the character and the changes that are being addressed.
Discussion
The Inferno within the context of this discussion refers to the first part of Dante Alighieri s poem.
This is a chronicle of a journey to God by the leading character in the form of Dante. It is worth
noting that the journey has been split into three classical parts, each depicting the changes that are
being portrayed throughout the journey of Dante. The first part is the inferno, which is a loose
interpretation of hell and with it comes the changes that are being portrayed in the character s
story journey. The second part is the purgatorio, which can be interpreted to refer to the purgatory
of the story and the changes that occur at this point are characterized by the ever present notion of
a sense of undertaking. In this part, Dante is confronted by a series of situations in which he has
to reach a mental decision ,while at the same time taking a purge of his internal thoughts. The last
and final part of the change is depicted in Paradiso, a reference to paradise. Here, Dante has

income of agricultural workers whereas the top bracket class observed a steady gain whereas in
2008 (Waggoner J, 2008), inflation adjusted income for middle class workers dripped by 1
percent. The concentration of wealth in 1929 was mainly in the hands of stock speculators
(Tomkins L M, 2008) whereby the richest 1 percent of Americans owned approximately 40
percent of the country s wealth. However the current figures reveal that in 2008 the richest 0.1
percent of Americans constitutes only 11.6 percent of the total nation s income (Calbreath D,
2008). As per the information given by Amity Shale s in her The Forgotten Man: A New History
of the Great Depression , November 1933, figures reveal that unemployment rate had increased to
over 23% whereas in the current times it s just 5%.
GOVERNMENT BOND RATES Stocks performed very badly during the Great Depression but on
the contrary government bonds did fairly well. During depression Bond prices did rise

14. Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock
In the twentieth century, the art technique that was being used is abstraction. Abstract art can
either be a sculpture or painting that is put together. The art piece is a bit exaggerated, inaccurate
and the audience can t really point out if it s a person, place or thing. The purpose of this art style
was for the artists to showcase what they think is pure art. Three known artist in the 20th century
were Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, Jackson Pollock. They re all abstract artists that have
their own unique style.
First artist is Wassily Kandinsky; he was born on December 16, 1866. He is a Russian painter
and became an artist because it helped him be lifted out of the reality. (The Biography). His well
known piece is the Composition VII. This art piece revolved around form and color. The
Wassily Kandinsky s purpose was to capture the attention of the viewer visually and emotionally.
This was one of his most complex piece due to many distorted shapes and color combinations.
Second artist is Kazimir Malevich; he was born in February 23, 1878. He is a Russian painter

16. Analysis Of David Ives The Blizzard
David Ives The Blizzard does a good job of making people analyze their selves and their
everyday life. His drama has the capabilities of making people ask many questions about
themselves. Why do I follow a routine? Why do I settle for the same things over and over again?
How do I break this cycle? What could I be doing differently with my life? It makes many people
realize just how routine oriented they are. It also brings to light the fear and unwillingness to
change that some people have. In the beginning of the play, Neil discussed his concerns about
their everyday routine with Jenny. He expresses his wish for change to her and explains that they
should change up their routine when their guests arrive to their new house (856). The characters
Salim and Natasha are introduced to not only emphasize his wishes, but to also shed light to
Jenny s fear of change. Neil is confused by the two strangers when they first arrive, but as Salim
uses his own words against him, Neil accepts him as his brother much like people acceptchange.
Jenny is wary of the strangers, and even with Natasha s assurance that she has nothing to be afraid
of, she still will not accept her (859). There are many reasons why people fear change. One of the
major reasons is the loss of control that can be experienced during change. They fear that they will
lose control of their territory and they lose their sense of self defense (Ten Reasons People Resist
Change). This is shown when in Jenny s

Program Evaluation Program evaluation is a tool used for evaluating and assessing a program in

wishing to determine the efficiency, effectiveness, and the impact of a program. Five of the most
common program evaluation models will be introduced. A number of different models are used by
those who evaluate programs. This paper will describe, in detail, the success case method for

Five Most Common Types of Program Evaluation Models The five most common types of
program evaluations are ones that assess the program s efficiency, assess the program s design and
theory, assess the program s impact on the community or end user, assess the program s process or
implementation, and assess the need for the program.
Success Case Model for Evaluation According to Brinkerhoff (1983), success case evaluation seeks
qualitative information about a few subjects rather than seeking thinner, quantifiable data about
many subjects. The success case model derives information from those participants who have
benefited from the program according to the goals and objectives the program intends to have.
This feedback may be helpful to others who have not benefitted as well from the program. Success
cases may be studies briefly through short interviews with a few trainees or through more elaborate
approaches, such as work sample analysis, records analysis and observation (Brinkerhoff, 1983,
para. 9). Some uses of the success case method are illustrating that the program has a positive
impact, modifying and strengthening the program being evaluated, and building data collection

The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because
of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins,
rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal
bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to
the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake
clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet
molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there
were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and
it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make
the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on
the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting.

King Cyrus the Great of the Persian Empire and Emperor Caesar Augustus of the Roman Republic

the people they lead. King Cyrus the Great rises to the throne of an expansive Persian Empire. As
King, he brings virtually the entire Near East under his control. In 539, claiming to be under the
divine right the Babylonian God Marduk, peacefully conquers Babylonand drives out Nabonidus,
the last of the Neo Babylonian kings. Cyrus the Great produces a clay cylinder denouncing
Nabonidus as an impious oppressor of the people of Babylonia, and of low born origins, making
him lesser than Cyrus s kingly heritage. Cyrus portrays himself as having been chosen by the
chief Babylonian God Marduk to restore peace and order to the Babylonians. It concludes with a

21. Malignant Hyperthermia Research Paper
Malignant hypertension is an inherited condition. It occurs when the patient has a severe reaction
caused by being exposed to certain drugs used as a part of the anesthesia for surgical procedures.
It can be fatal if it is not treated quickly. In most cases, there are no signs or symptoms until the
reaction occurs.
Signs and Symptoms The key symptoms of malignant hyperthermia are a dangerously high body
temperature, severe muscle spasms, rhabdomyolysis, acidosis and a fast heart rate.
Diagnosis and Treatment Genetic testing is available to determine if you are carrying the gene for
malignant hyperthermia. There is a 50 percent chance of the patient having the condition if they

also vulnerable to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malignant hyperthermia may not show itself during the first surgery. Yet, during future
surgeries the risk remains. In some rare occurrences, people with the condition have shown
signs of a reaction after intense exercise. The surgeon and anesthesiologist should be notified
prior to surgery if the patient has been diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia so that they can
be prepared to treat the reaction if it should occur. Treatment consists of a drug called dantrolene
(Dantrium). Dantrolene is a skeletal muscle relaxant. It is indicated for the prophylaxis
treatment of malignant hyperthermia. It acts directly on skeletal muscle, causing relaxation by
decreasing calcium release from sarcoplasmic reticulum in muscle cells. It also prevents the intense
catabolic process associated with the condition. The dosage indicated for adults by PO is 4 8 mg

HST 402: Seminar in European History
1000 Word Paper
Throughout the history of witchcraft it has been hard to establish if any of these accusations on
В‘witches were actually true due to lack of records and proof, although it now seems certain that
the vast majority of women incited were innocent. In the book The Bewitching of Anne Gunter we
can see how these allegations can be completely fabricated for personal gain and revenge.
The British Isles, was a tense and troubled time in the late 1500 s/early 1600 s where the book is
set. Anxiety arose between the Catholics and the Protestants, which would eventually lead to the
English Civil War. Family feuds, politics, poverty, religion and views of witchcraftinflamed this ...

The Gregory family later tried to get Gunter charged with manslaughter, they failed but Gunter
never forgave their attempt.
A few years later in the summer of 1604 when Anne collapsed with what all believed to be an
attack of the mother (hysteria), Brian Gunter saw his chance to get revenge on the Gregory s and
discredit them.
At first Anne claims she didn t attribute this sickness to witchcraft in anyway. It was only later that
year in October when the illness came back; that she maintains her father and the neighbours
concocted the bewitchment with the aim of blaming Elizabeth Gregory. If we look for motive,
Brian bringing the Gregory family into disrepute in this manner would be a fitting form of revenge.
Throughout the supposed bewitching, Anne feigned fits and trances, saw familiars, vomited pins,
showed psychic powers and made it so her clothes unlaced themselves during fits. All of this was
to convince witnesses of her В‘bewitching , in order to further support this her father would give
her potions to drink. One to induce vomiting and fits, and another to enable her to suffer pain and
not feel it. In the court case Anne testified that it was the neighbour Alice Kirfoote who would stick
pins into her body, to show the numbness.
During the various visits to the Gunter house to observe Anne s behaviour, it is believed that one
visitor gave Brian Gunter a lengthy article entitled The most strange and admirable discoverie of

Introduction
Throughout history, people have been fascinated by the topic of serial killers, primarily because
one cannot understand why an individual would be willing to take multiple lives with no remorse.
For many years investigators, sociologist, and criminologist have continuously researched these
individuals. Current research on anti social personality disorder and psychopathic behavior has led
to information on serial killer s biological development and environmental factors. There is very
little information focusing on the killer s child hood which may have played a part in the
individuals violent killings later in life. This case study will focus on Jeffery Dahmer, while tracing

Over the years, there have been many studies conducted on child neglect and/ or abuse and its

that children who witness violence in their homes have a likelihood of suffering from long term
emotional, physical and mental trauma. In an article Childhood Psychological Abuse as Harmful
as Sexual or Physical Abuse 2008 posted by the American psychological association stated that:
Children who had been psychologically abused suffered from anxiety, depression, low self esteem,
symptoms of post traumatic stress and suicidality at the same rate and, in some cases, at a greater
rate than children who were physically or sexually abused. Among the three types of abuse,
psychological maltreatment was most strongly associated with depression, general anxiety disorder,
social anxiety disorder, attachment problems and substance abuse. Psychological maltreatment that
occurred alongside physical or sexual abuse was associated with significantly more severe and far
ranging negative outcomes than when children were sexually and physically abused and not
psychologically abused, the study found. Moreover, sexual and physical abuse had to occur at

Tips to Get Started on that First Ten Pounds
For most people, the hardest part of a diet is shedding their body of the first ten pounds. Your body
can feel as if you are starving it and it begs for the typical comfort foods that it is used to. It is easy
to give in and embrace your old way of life, however, there are tips you can use to eliminate the
first ten pounds you want to lose.
When you plan to start a new diet, make certain that you are sure this is something that you want to
do. You need motivation and determination to stay with your diet as well as to have an exercise
plan in place.
The first ten pounds are the hardest to get rid of and you will need to be forceful with yourself.
Keep in mind that once those pounds are gone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turn to a friend if you can, ask them to join you on a quest to diet or just be with you for
additional will power. You can also sign up with a support group for those on diets. Some of these
groups are free while others may have a minimal charge.
Always remember that support is never a bad thing and the more that you can get, the better off
that you will be. Use help to shed those first ten pounds in any form that you can get it.
When you start a diet and need to lose the first ten pounds, the best way to do it s through what is
known as cleansing, a process that takes two or three days. Your body is designed to store fat
when it is given an excess amount of it and once taken away, it needs to eliminate that fat.
If you just cut down on calories, it will take a longer amount of time to shed the first ten pounds.
Cleansing will help you get your diet in gear in a good way. During this cleansing time, eat foods
that are low in both fat and calories. Stick to soups, salads and ingest very small amounts of meat.
Try also to keep the amount of food that you consume, even if healthy to small portions. Although
this may be tough, it is during this time that your body will stop releasing fat if your calorie
intake is lower. Take in calories suggested for your height and weight and you will find it easier to
stay faithful to your new

Class Schedule:
Turn in homework
The children took this time of the day to use the bathroom and turn in their homework for the week.
Pledge
The pledge was said over the intercom and the whole class participated.
ST math
Math games on the computer
I walked around to help anyone who needed help
PE/music
The children go to PE or music
Teacher planning
I got to help the teacher decorate for Halloween in the hallway
I helped the teacher check homework and see who tuned it all in or not
Math skills
The children worried on a path packet and a skills paper
We then tought them a new math skill o I got to help the read the word problem and then explain
how they get the answer.
Two events:
Today we went to ST math before PE and I noticed something interesting. Most of the children
were on the same lesson and had the same trouble. They all were having trouble with less than,
equal to and more then. In the program there were blocks on each side and the child had to either
take some away or add some to make them equal. I helped mean children with this lesson and each
time I found new ways to help them. I showered a few ways with counting on my fingers and
others by connecting it to a math problem. They mostly all understood it better with the visual. This
was a good learning experience for me and showed me how differently the kids learn. Next time I
want to find different ways to explain how to do the lesson. I could maybe relate it to something
they know or draw some pictures.
I was also given the choice to lead the lesson on math skills. I chose to do it thinking it would be
good experience and help with my confidence. The lesson was on word problems and how to make
them into a math problem. I thought it was going to be easer then what it was. Teachinga child is
very different individually then when teaching a whole class. I learned a lot doing this and got a
lot of help from the teacher. One thing she told me was that the kids in the class had different
reading levels in it, so when reading the word problem with them so they know what the word are.
I was also having trouble explaining it and how to go about it all. The teacher helped me out a lot

know you were in the village once you start to notice the absence of electricity poles that alone

walking distance towns and villagers tend to spend their everyday lives tending to their crops in
farms. I learned so much in such a short time at the farm
It was a lovely Sunday morning on August 7, 2005 it was a much anticipated trip filled with
excitement and joy it was about six of us (my mother, father, siblings, our driver and I ) all

Summary: According to Viele (2012), she states that when it comes to information literacy, there
seems to be an abundance of definitions. The most concise and all encompassing meaning is that
information fluency is a set of skills necessitating individuals to be able to distinguish when and
what actual information is needed. The author states that an individual should be capable to
effectively locate, evaluate, and use the needed information in making informed decisions that are
invaluable throughout life. In any situation whether it be preparing a presentation for class, a
poster, or writing a report, these steps should be completed in an ethical manner. In the article, the
author breaks down each of the information fluency skills in component parts. She also provides
explanations of how to do each with online tutorials links, helpful websites, and examples for
reference of good places to start when making sure that each skill is preformed effectively.

31. Construction Of An Underground Network Of Tunnels
Introduction
In the 1850s over 400,000 tonnes of waste and sewage was being discharged into the River
Thames each day. By 1858 the stench from the raw sewage around and within the Thames was
named the Great Stink . It was a Civil Engineer named Joseph Bazalgette who proposed a plan of
the creation of an underground network of tunnels, to put an end to the polluted river. His
engineering feat has been improved and extended vastly but the Victorian Sewers still stand as
London s primary sewer system. The sewers were designed to be a combined system meaning
rainwater and waste were transported in the same manner. Bazalgette designed Combined Sewage
Overflow (CSO) points along the Thames. The CSO s discharged the sewage and rainwater into
the Thames after substantial rainfall, this prevented flooding the streets and houses. When
designing the sewers, population increase was taken into consideration. (16) The underground
system and factories were designed to treat and transfer sewage of up to double the population
that was present when construction began. However the population of London almost
quadrupled from 2.35 Million in 1850 (19) to 8.17 million in 2011(7). This drastic increase
meant that the sewers were overloaded. The CSO s were overflowing with only 2mm of rainfall
and on average discharging into the Thames around twice a week. The head of Thames Water Phil
stride, said Currently, 32 million cubic metres of storm sewage overflows from London s Victorian
sewers into

Experian, (2013) adds that email is a growing source of traffic within the travel industry and
although not as prominent as search, it provides a very different role as a digital channel. Email
presents excellent opportunities to nurture existing customers, to cross sell other travel products,
and to build brand loyalty. One of the keys to unlocking the potential of email marketing in travel
is to understand that the seasonality of email works differently to other digital channels. Moreover,
this provides a great opportunity for marketers in the travel and tourism industry to keep their
brand and services fresh in the minds of their target audience for even longer with some clever
email marketing (Clowes, 2015). Alikilic, (2008) mentions that travel tourism practitioners
introduce email that is one of the most reliable new medium as the ecommerce driver and customer
relationship builder, they also point out that customers still rely on email for their travel and
holiday purchasing information, ideas, news and interactive services. Especially email as a
communication channel is the most effective marketing vehicle for tourism marketers to analyse
real time data at such a deep level. Moreover, email produces the highest response rate for lead
generation of direct mail methods and email is the cheapest way of running a travel campaign. In
addition, Buhalis and Jun, (2011) show that hoteliers and travel firms have gradually matured and

33. Black Masculinity And The Hip Hop Culture
In the predominantly patriarchal history of the world masculinity and what it means to be a
man have differed from culture to culture. When it comes to African American history and
culture, particularly what it has meant to be a man has no clear set of universal rules or
guidelines. There are a few different sources such as hip hop and television many young black
men across America draw their sense of masculinity from. On the other hand, there are role
models in black communities that many young black men also draw their sense of masculinity
from. With so many different sources to draw a sense of what it means to be a black man in
today s society from what is the true definition of black masculinity. In black media today the hip
hop culture is often referred to when defining what it means to be a black person in society. In
particular the hip hop culture is where many young black men pull both positive and negative
aspects of black masculinity. Many mainstream hip hop songs often create a common misogyny
by objectifying and stereotyping women. An example of this can be heard in the song Nasty Girl

you do to me? She starts off, Well I don t usually. Then I, whip it out, rubber no doubt. Step out,

This notion is the core of James MacGregor Burns classic definition of leadership as leaders
inducing followers to act for certain goals that represent the values and the motivations the wants
and needs, the aspirations and expectations of both leaders and followers. Successful leadership
inspires the members of the organization to embrace shared values and to move together toward
shared objectives.4 Rowing a boat is sometimes offered as the metaphor: if several individuals try
to row a boat while out of sync and with each attempting to steer in a different direction, much
energy will be expended with little progress made. A successful leader (in the metaphor, the
coxswain), however, inspires the rowers to stroke in sync in support of a common direction, which
will cause the boat to go farther and faster toward the desired destination.

The short story The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was written in 1972. The Lesson was a first
person point of view story, it was told by a young girl named, Sylvia. This story tells about the
shopping trip that the teacher of the class, Miss Moore, took the children. The main ideas of this
story are the economic life style, social inequality, and lack of equal education for the African
Americans. Miss Moore tries to teach the kids there is a better life in a small trip to the toy
store. Sylvia gets angry with Miss Moore taking them to the toy store, not understanding why
she would take them. The way Toni Bambara wrote The Lesson in first person narration gives
the story realism. The story The Lesson is told by a little girl named Sylvia, and it is about her
class and Miss Moore going to a toy store. Before they leave, Miss Moore tells them how money
is not being fairly handed out in the country and tells them where they are living is called the

Projects with civic engagement goals expose students to social problems and to public agencies
responsible for the amelioration of these problems. For example, instead of organizing a food drive
as an end in itself a traditional form of community service students might use this activity as a
springboard to research and discuss how effectively government agencies at various levels respond
to hunger (David 1). Civic participation creates an environment for students to undertake a
community focused activity allows them to become active participants in their community. Another
important conclusion that comes from Civic Participation is its connection to Self actualization,
This study provides a description of how digital natives conceptions of civic action and

43. The City Of The Aztec Empire Essay
Geography The main area of civilization was the Valley of Mexico in the mountains. The main
city of the Aztec empire, is the capital of Tenochtitlan, a population of about 20 30 million.
Tenochtitlan is located on an island in Lake Texcoco, built around the causeway to stop the
water, preventing seawater intrusion island. Due to the increase of population, the island area
was not enough, so the Aztecs built artificial islands around the main islands, these artificial
islands at the time the world is one of the best. In Tenochtitlan, there were several major urban
centers, including two central squares, one Mistral Marco Tello Temple Square, and a religious
center square. The other two were two big markets, these markets bazaar once every five days
when thousands of Aztecs will enter the market to buy what they need. In addition to the two
large squares, two big markets, Tenochtitlan, there are several small temples, a small square, small
market, fairs, religious activities, and social activities. Tenochtitlan had structures of brick houses
with sand, and part of the house with high grade stone blocks. The Aztecs plant some flowers on
the roof, also known as hanging gardens. Religion The religion was polytheistic. Huitzilopochtli

He was worshiped because they thought that sun was a warrior and he fought every night against
the forces of darkness. They also believed that if

44. Cultural Diversity In Nursing Research
Red group, it is with respect that we disagree with your stance regarding cultural diversity and
safety in the workplace. We believe you failed to prove how culturally diverse nurses improve
patient care. Your statement By providing culturally competent care, nurses can play a large role in
enhancing patient outcomes, seems to us to be a statement, and no proof was presented as to that
outcome. What were the outcomes? Were the outcomes positive or negative? Were they patient
outcomes or nursing outcomes? There was no evidence presented to validate this statement either
way. Those who are in favor of nursing workforce diversity claim that increasing the number of
minority healthcare workers will enhance cultural similarity between patients and providers that will
lead to improve patient care but unfortunately it is difficult to... Show more content on

Your statement regarding the language barriers slowing down efficient treatment only provides
proof of our stance that BSN prepared nurses have a broader, more in depth education based in areas
such as liberal arts and instruction in community health, public health, research, nursing leadership,
and nursing management (Cowen, 2011). Thus proving our stance that education in nursing is
more important to deliver safe culturally competent patient care. Definitely, language barriers
between healthcare staff and patients can hinder appropriate delivery of care. What happens if you
do not have a nursing staff that has the same background of the patient? As a culturally competent
nurse, you know that there are other avenues to resolve that, like using a hospital interpreter in
person or using a phone line for linguistic assistance. Spector (2013) stated that the Joint
Commission of Hospital Accreditation and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

45. Cornelius Vanderbilt Symbolism
Cornelius Vanderbilt is a name that people in American society associate with success, wealth,
and prestige. Although the name may not be easily recognized by the average American citizen,
Cornelius Vanderbilt is a name that symbolizes greatness to the American elite, members of
academia, and aspiring businessmen who wish to someday build an business empire. The fact
that he is still well esteemed amongst a smaller group of elite members in society allows him to be
considered iconic. Cornelius Vanderbilt became the face of the American Dream through his
aggressive business efforts, became a symbol of American values by having a lasting economic
and historical impact, and defined what American royalty is. Cornelius Vanderbilt and the empire
that he built has had an influential impact on how many Americans see their country and the
opportunities within their reach. When people think of the American dream, what comes to mind
is the ability to become successful and prosperous despite one s social status. Vanderbilt followed
this ideal perfectly and became an example of what one can achieve when they have the American
Dream. Cornelius Vanderbilt was born into a humble beginning on May 27th in 1794. He was not
raised in a wealthy household rather he was born into a blue collar family in Staten Island, New
York. He attended school briefly and worked with his father ferrying produce and transporting cargo
throughout the harbor. Despite his circumstances, Vanderbilt

46. Conditional Cash Transfer ( Cct ) Programmes Essay
Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programmes are a form of social protection which provide
modest monthly cash transfers to families with children. Cash transfers are conditional on families
meeting the minimum requirements of regular school attendance and the use of preventive
healthcare services. Although largely praised for their success, CCTs are criticised for using
conditionality as a means of achieving the objectives to improve the capital accumulation of those
living in abject poverty. Providing direct cash transfers to raise the income levels of the poor are a
precursor to long term poverty reduction strategies. The conditional aspect of the CCT program
assures the adequate investment of parents and children in improving the health and welfare of
their family: a necessary aspect of breaking the intergenerational transmission of poverty. Brazil s
CCT, Bolsa Familia targets the educationand health indicators of their beneficiaries in order to
achieve human capitalaccumulation. CCT programmes have multiple impacts on the education and
health of recipient families. In the following I will assess their impacts on education and health by
observing the inputs for health and education and the outcomes of human capital accumulation.
Brazil s CCT, Bolsa Familia is the largest CCT programme in the world. Today, Bolsa Familia
covers 13 million households, with about 5 people in each household.
This is equates to about 25% of the population of Brazil. (Brazil is very

47. Role Of Madness In Macbeth
And nothing is but what is not (1.3.155). What matters to Macbeth is what does not exist, and those
that exist do not matter: Macbeth says these words while thinking of murder. Macbeth begins his
descent into madness through the act to follow. However innocent he thinks he is, he is but the
serpent underneath it. Shakespeare creates his character Macbethin a such a way that he starts off
sane, and through certain actions that Shakespeare characterizes as evil, he falls. In the play
Macbeth, Macbeth s mind slips far further than he had wagered and soon he is the epitome of
madness. Shakespeare uses other characters as well to delineate Macbeth s mind state as the play
unfolds. Such parallels are meant to emphasize and strengthen the... Show more content on

As Macbeth moves throughout the play, he makes decisions based on greed and insecurity.
These decisions are influenced by his diseased mind which is crippled by his paradoxical
thoughts. While planning to kill Banquo, he shares that full of scorpions is my mind, dear
wife! Thou know st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives / But in them nature s copy s not eterne.
/ There s comfort yet; they are assailable (3.2.41 44). Macbeth knows that his mind is diseased
and while knowing that Banquo and his son is alive, his mind tricks him into thinking they are
dangerous. Shakespeare compares Macbeth s mind to be full of scorpions . Scorpions attack by
using their tails and stabbing poison into someone. The scorpion attacking him is his own greed
and the poison is from what the greed leads to. His greed, filling his mind more and more with
bad thoughts, until finally he is poisoned with the thoughts of killing to get what he wants. The
idea that Macbeth s head is full of scorpions suggests that over time his thoughts are getting a
little more poisoned over and over again until finally he dies. His state of mind now inhabited by
scorpions leads him to making paradoxical decisions. Macbeth feels comfort in knowing that
nature s copy is eterne for him but he also feels threatened by his successor being Fleance. Lady
Macbeth tries to comfort him by telling him he has eternal life and his assailants do not. He
agrees with his wife s comfort but he is still not sure. His thoughts are paradoxical because he

Social media is expanding due to its popularity; however it may be used for many different reasons.
Many minors use it as a form of entertainment and interaction between friends and even other

interaction, nevertheless minors should not be able to use social media because it causes health
issues, exposes them to explicit content, and promotes violence. Social media causing health issues

The period before the great depression, the 1920s, was known as the Roaring Twenties or the
Jazz age. This Era was marked by artistic movement such as the creation of Jazz music and a rich
supply of American writing. During this time the federal government had been providing some
aid to the states but leaving the bulk of the power to the states, which is known as a dual
federalism. It also marked the end of modest social traditions and wave of materialism encouraged
by increased customer spending with the open use of a new concept called credit.
As the Great Depression rolled in, a cry for the involvement of government in matters of the
economy was sent out as the United States reached an all time low. When Wall Street crashed,

Three days after taking office FDR established the Emergency Banking Act, that closed all the

On 25 April 1915, during the First World War, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps
(ANZAC) landed on the Gallipoli peninsula as part of the 70,000 strong Anglo French operation
against Turkey to capture the Dardanelles. Over one million men were involved in the ill fated
Gallipoli campaign which lasted eight and a half months. Of the 44,070 soldiers who were killed
during the campaign, 8,000 were Australian. It was the first time that Australians went into combat
as Australians, giving Australiaa sense of identity and a place in the world.
World War 1 war correspondent and historian Charles Edwin Woodrow Bean believed that Anzac
Day 1915 saw the birth of the Australian national consciousness maintaining that The big thing in
the war...was the discovery of the character of Australian men. It was a character which rushed the
hills at Gallipoli and held on there during the long afternoon and night, when everything seemed
to have gone wrong and there was only the barest hope at the end of success . Gallipoli also saw
the birth of the Anzac Legend or Anzac Spirit . A term used to illustrate the characteristics of
ANZAC soldiers which encompassed bravery, endurance, ingenuity, comradeship and what
Australians call mateship . The term developed as a central part of Australia s collective memory
and national identity growing popular largely due to Bean s works.

The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit
of Capitalism gives meaning to the center of the capitalist culture. The capitalistic nature of society
evolves from the Puritans. The Protestant Ethic was a dominant and established concept within their
culture before the labeling of capitalismas an order was put into practice. This ethic found it
morally permissible to obtain wealth for God, but not for flesh and sin (Weber, pg 435). The
obedient Christians would drive for the opportunity to gain profit to fulfill their calling and be a
steward for the Lord. Obtaining wealth as a result of temptation to idleness and sinful enjoyment
of life (Weber, pg 435) and living without careful though was seen negatively, but the acquisition
of wealth in the view of performing your duty as a good Christian was encouraged. Not pursuing
wealth by not expanding in your talent was seen as disrespectful to God s glory, principally in the
form of begging. By trying to pursue the spiritual goal of wealth, the acetic aspect of the Protestant
Ethic allowed individuals to refrain from the pleasures of wealth by reasoning with their calling.

It is blatant that the only acceptable course of action is a systematic change in the system, from all
sides. The solutions are simple. A thorough review from the top down is necessary, and
accountability needs to be found between the member schools, and the actual organization. Once a
