The Danube River passes through 10 countries in Europe, including four famous capitals. It is the second largest river in Europe and connects over 83 million people. Experts discussed how the Freudenau power plant, Via Donau, and sediment imbalances from human alterations to the riverbed have impacted flooding and biodiversity. The group visited the National Park Lobau, where the Danube flows for 36 km through the 2300 hectare park. Their city tour of Vienna covered landmarks like St. Stephan's Dom and Schönbrunn Palace, and noted cultural contributions from Maria Theresia and the famous Sacher Torte dessert.

 Via Donau takes charge of 250 kilometres of asphalted cycle tracks.
 Via Donau manages 300 kilometres of flood protections dams.
 Between 9 and 12 million tons of goods are transported every year on the Austrian stretch of
the Danube.
 Via Donau cares for 800 kilometres of riverbank and ensures the preservation of 500 kilometres
of towpaths.
