Thomas Alva Edison was a prolific American inventor who invented the electric locomotive, phonograph, electric pen and copying system, kinescope, and most importantly the electric light bulb. As a child growing up in Milan, Ohio, Edison had an inquisitive mind and would ask his parents questions about physics that they could not answer because he had already learned all they knew to teach.
