Alexander Graham Bell was a famous Scottish-American inventor born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is best known for inventing the telephone in 1876 while working in Boston, Massachusetts. On March 10, 1876, Bell successfully transmitted the first telephone call by saying "Mr. Watson--Come here--I want to see you" to his assistant Thomas Watson in another room. Despite its simplicity, the telephone revolutionized communication around the world. Bell held 18 patents for inventions and continued inventing after the telephone, developing devices like the photophone and a metal vacuum jacket to aid breathing. He died in 1922 in Nova Scotia, Canada at the age of 75.
