Self-identity forms the basis of our self-esteem. The way adolescents see themselves changes their response to friends, family,school, and other social situations. Of one of the four arenas of identity formation, vocation resonates with me most from my youth. I began working in my teen years. Having taught cheer camps, waited tables, and working for the Coca Cola Company all before the age of twenty, I fell into the second identity status of foreclosure. I was always committed, but not necessarily full of exploration. I did what was necessary to get by. My Dad had amazing work ethic, and it was expected of me to either work full time or go to school full time after graduation. I did not attend college after high school, so work was my outlet. Identity diffusion did not describe me as I had goals and direction. Moratorium and identity achievement do not apply to my example as they both have a great deal of exploration. Waiting tables and cheer camps were invited through friends and coaches, not though me seeking them out. Even in regards to my Coca Cola employment, I was placed through a temp agency. Therefore, foreclosure is the leading status in my experience.
Identity diffusion describes youth who have not explored nor committed to any particular identity. These kids have no real direction, no goals, are going through life and dealing with situations as they arise. Foreclosure status represents those with a high degree of commitment, but without much thought or exploration. These youth accept the beliefs and values of their family without branching out on their own. For example, these students may follow the path of their parents’ careers or the colleges they attended without question because they have goals, but do not consider other alternatives. Moratorium status displays exploration, but lacks commitment. These adolescents explore different values, beliefs, and goals; keeping their options open. The final status is identity achievement. This status represents both exploration and commitment. Youth at this status know what is important to them, and have researched the many possibilities of who they want to be.
Faith in my adolescent years was non-existent. I did know of the Lord, and had some speak truth into my life, but made no commitments to salvation until I was 22 years old. Since then, I would very much say that my faith has helped me in my journey to identity achievement as an adult.

The purpose of this journal is to examine Allport’s dimensions of maturity. There are many tasks that are accomplished in early adulthood including the establishment of an intimate relationship, the beginnings of family, and the decision about careers. One of the tasks that deserves attention is maturity. Most of the traditional-aged students in your classes, your peers, (i.e., late adolescence and early adulthood) are currently working on these dimensions in their own lives.
Some areas will demand their undivided attention; others can be worked on in concert.
Allport’s dimensions of maturity are described below:
Extension of self
is doing something for its own sake, not because others want you to or because it is expected of you.
Relating warmly to others
is developing intimate relations and displaying compassion.
Emotional security
is:
accepting emotional responses without letting them take control
an ability to handle high levels of stress
control over emotional expression
Realistic perception
is perceiving situations accurately.
Possession of skills and competencies
is being aware of skills and displaying pride in personal abilities.

is finding a guiding purpose, establishing ideals, identifying needs, developing goals, and adopting values.
The purpose of this exercise is to recognize the significance of the period of transition from high school to college. There are both positive and negative experiences related to this time in life. It is often a time of newfound independence, setting adolescents on the path toward true adulthood; yet, today’s college freshmen report being more stressed and depressed than those from the 1980s (Santrock & Halonen, 1999).
Think about your transition from high school to college. How did your life circumstances change? How prepared did you feel going into this new phase of your life? How prepared did you discover you actually were? In what ways did you meet your expectations for success on your own, and in what ways did you discover that you needed guidance? How are you faring now? What has been the most significant change, and what is the most significant lesson you have learned in this time period? What were some markers that you felt like an adult? : Hello everyone….welcome back to class. Today, we are going to discuss criminal law, antitrust, and health care….
In an effort to provide you a review of criminal law as it relates to the healthcare industry, I will begin with the procedural aspects of criminal law as well as a an overview of cases that have occurred in health care facilities.
A
crime
is any social harm defined and made punishable by law. The objectives of criminal law are to maintain public order and safety. Crimes are generally classified as misdemeanors or felonies. A misdemeanor is an offense punishable by less than one year in jail and/or a fine ( for example, petty larceny). A felony is a much more serious crime (for example, rape and murder) and is generally punishable by imprisonment.
Let’s first discuss criminal procedure which regulates the process for addressing violations of criminal law. Who can describe the process of arrest and arraignment?
Casey:
Prosecution usually begins with a police arrest or a warrant for an arrest. The arraignment is a formal reading of the
accusatory instrument,
a document which accuses the defendant of an offense and includes the setting of bail.
Donald
: I would agree, but I would add that after the charges are read the defendant pleads
guilty
or
not guilty
. Then the court sets bail, if any, and the judge sets a date for the defendant to return to court.

What happens after the arraignment?

conference
occurs if the defendant does not plead guilty. Plea bargaining commences with the goal of an agreed-upon disposition. If no disposition can be reached, the case is adjourned, motions are made, and further plea bargaining takes place. After several adjournments, a case may be assigned to a trial court.

In an effort to provide you a review of criminal law as it relates to the healthcare industry, I will begin with the procedural aspects of criminal law as well as a an overview of cases that have occurred in health care facilities.
A
crime
is any social harm defined and made punishable by law. The objectives of criminal law are to maintain public order and safety. Crimes are generally classified as misdemeanors or felonies. A misdemeanor is an offense punishable by less than one year in jail and/or a fine ( for example, petty larceny). A felony is a much more serious crime (for example, rape and murder) and is generally punishable by imprisonment.
Let’s first discuss criminal procedure which regulates the process for addressing violations of criminal law. Who can describe the process of arrest and arraignment?
Casey:
Prosecution usually begins with a police arrest or a warrant for an arrest. The arraignment is a formal reading of the
accusatory instrument,
a document which accuses the defendant of an offense and includes the setting of bail.
Donald
: I would agree, but I would add that after the charges are read the defendant pleads
guilty
or
not guilty
. Then the court sets bail, if any, and the judge sets a date for the defendant to return to court.

Trials, especially jury trials, are vital to fostering the respect of the public in the civil justice system. Trials do not represent the failure of the system. This class is important in understanding the law as it applies to the courtroom. Although many of the procedures leading up to and followed during a trial will be discussed, civil procedures and trial practice are governed by each state’s statutory requirements. Cases on a federal level are governed by federal statutory requirements.
The pleadings of a case are the written statements of fact and law filed with a court by the parties to a lawsuit. The
complaint
is the first pleading in a lawsuit that is filed by the plaintiff. A
demurrer
is a pleading filed by a defendant challenging the legal sufficiency of a complaint. An
answer
to a complaint is a pleading, which admits or denies the specific allegations set forth in the complaint and constitutes a general appearance by a defendant. A
bill of particulars
is a request for a written itemization of the claims, which a defendant can demand from the plaintiff to determine what the details of a claim are. A defendant may also file a cross-compliant and bring other parties into a law suit by the process.
Let’s first discuss the summons and complaint. Who can tell us what a summons and a complaint are?
Casey:
A summon is a service of process on a defendant and a return to the court of that process by the person who served it. In other words, it is when an issue has been called in the courts to come back together. And, Wow, a complaint
is any formal legal document that is issued by the plantiff to hopefully supports a claim against someone or a group.

: A first pleading filed with the court in a negligence action is the complaint. The complaint identifies the parties to a suit, states a cause of action, and includes a demand for damages. The complaint is filed by the plaintiff and is the first statement of a case by the plaintiff against the defendant.

Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
