Firms intentionally create foreign brand names to invite beneficial associations of some foreign countries through languages implied by the brand names. However, the consumers’ ability to comprehend the meaning of foreign brand names may partly depend on their familiarity and attitude toward the associated foreign language, which is out of the firms’ control. This research compares consumers’ perceptions about a local language (LL), close foreign languages (CFL) and distant foreign languages (DFL), and their associated brand names in order to gain a better understanding of brand-naming in different language contexts. Data were analysed using multiple regression and paired- samples t-tests. In a survey participated in by 350 Indonesian consumers, (1) there was a clear distinction between perceived meaningfulness and likeability of brand names in LL-CFL-DFL, and (2) selecting brand names in LL or CFL was more beneficial than DFL. However, language familiarity and attitude were not enough to predict brand name meaningfulness and likeability for LL-CFL-DFL. The applicability of this research is limited by sample size, cultural context, and product category, particularly since the demography of survey participants is skewed toward urban, middle-class consumers.

Learning with technology as coordinated sociomaterial practice: digital liter...Martin Oliver
While considerable attention has been given to the concept of learning – what it is, how we might know it when we see it, and how to intervene in it – by contrast, technology remains under-theorised. While theoretical approaches that have developed accounts of the relationship between technology and human action, few of these are well represented within educational technology or networked learning. This paucity of theorisation has resulted in simplistic accounts of the role of technology in various kinds of learning, usually involving some kind of causal or determining mechanism. Such accounts are vulnerable to critique (e.g. Friesen, 2009), but nonetheless remain prevalent.
In this paper, I will recap some of the problems with this position, and then consider alternatives that address issues around agency and the role of the social. Specifically, drawing on Mol’s concept of praxiology, developed in the context of work on the constitution of diseases in medical practice, I will explore alternative ways in which educational uses of technology can be understood. This value of this will be illustrated through the design of a study of digital literacies. Some implications of this include for researchers – including concerns about reflexivity – will then be drawn out.

As a proof of concept of how arts and fiction can broaden the scope of "thinkable futures", project WORK+ has collaboratively gathered 150+ fictional and artistic “fragments” on the futures of work. These include science fiction, visual and performing arts, speculative design, video games, utopias and manifestos, performances, and so on.
Based on this material, WORK+ has designed an open-source method to help groups and organizations kickstart collaborative thinking on the futures of work. The challenge:
• Use fiction and arts as leverage to embrace change
• Move away from conventional thinking on the future of work
• Dare invent more diverse futures and project oneself in them

3. HYPOTHESIS
This thesis present the hypothesis that fictional characters (such as
characters in movies, fictions and video games) can be explored
within design development process.
In contrast to existing methodologies, which include the usual
stakeholders, such as clients, partners and consumers, such a
hypothesis could provide a new system for inspiration and ideation
based on more fantasy-like propositions.
