areas are competing and avoiding. As a speech/theatre major, the topic of conflict resolution isn t
new to me. I ve done many reflection papers just like this one and have taken many similar

In the play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Ophelia, the daughter of Polonius, is seen as a fair
maiden who wants her love with Hamlet to be eternal. Due to the many warnings from her father
Polonius and her brother Laertes, she succumbs to her father s wishes and plays the role of a good
daughter, thus betraying Hamlet. Previously in the play where Hamlet gives his soliloquy on life
and death, Ophelia has been ordered to break off her relationship with Hamlet while Polonius
eavesdrops to prove that Hamlet has truly gone mad. As a result of Hamlet s supposed madness and
Ophelia s docile character during the confrontation, both of their fragile hearts shatter and Ophelia
begins her dark descent into madness, leading to her eventual death.
Throughout acts one and two of the play, Ophelia in Hamlet s eyes is seen as one of the only
fair and trustworthy outliers in the array of deception. After his soliloquy about life and death
with its dark and apathetic tone, there is a shift when Ophelia is in his presence. As Hamlet
realizes his beloved is approaching, he commands himself, Soft you now! to make sure Ophelia
does not hear what he is saying as if not to corrupt this beauty from heaven (Shakespeare III.i.86).
His mood perks up and the tone of his words become more endearing when he calls her a Nymph

The atrocities of the Holocaust placed the German Jewish population in a quagmire of antisemitic
persecution, but it also spread beyond Germany to affect Jews throughout Europe. Poland was such
a country. The first nation invaded by Nazi Germany and the last to be liberated, the population of
Polish Jewswas nearly eradicated. How were the Nazis able to accomplish such a feat in a nation
where antisemitismhad not been as prevalent? Aside from forcibly introducing antisemitic policy
into Poland, the Nazis relied on fear and self interest to accomplish their goals. For the average
Polish Catholic in 1943, a decision had to be made on where they stood regarding the Jewish

important character, a blind old woman, is stated outright to be American. Not only that, she is

advanced designs for each era and truly fascinating to look at as well. Between the Saqqara Bird,
