General Gage planned and carried out a surprise attack on the Provincial Powder House in September 1774 to seize gunpowder. In April 1775, Gage received reports that the British were planning to strike Worcester but decided on Concord instead. On the night of April 18, 1775, British troops began mobilizing secretly for the march to Concord to seize arms. Paul Revere and William Dawes set out on horseback to warn the patriots, but were stopped by British soldiers in Lincoln where Revere was captured before he could complete his warning.
