How to go from structureless to structured without losing your vibeCamille Fournier
The document discusses moving from a flat organizational structure to one with more hierarchy and leadership roles at a company. It notes that as engineering teams grow past a certain size, the flat structure breaks down, and it's time to consider roles like VP of Engineering or Director of Engineering. However, it emphasizes that these new leadership roles need clearly defined responsibilities and expectations to avoid confusion and ensure accountability. It advocates creating an engineering ladder or level system to establish clarity around hiring, pay, promotion criteria and growth opportunities for team members at different career stages.
This document provides a summary of a presentation on lateral problem solving and acting on new information and insights. The presentation discusses how people often get stuck when confronted with new information, failing to restructure their mental models. The key steps outlined are to start with hard data, use data provocatively, treat new information positively and negatively to speculate on implications, get creative about alternatives, then act on insights through a process of iteration. Overall, the document promotes using insights driven by data to avoid getting stuck and enable continuous improvement through acting on new information.
Digital Membership and an organisations that's 173 years oldAnna Dick
How do you apply the culture, practices, processes and technologies of the internet to an organisation that’s 173 years old? And how do you make sure you’re building the right products for the members (who are also the owners) of that organisation?
Anna and Simon are going to talk about how they are answering these questions in their work with the Co-op Membership Programme. They will share both good and bad experiences. And they’ll outline some of the challenges they’ve come across when trying to change how Co-op colleagues think about how and what they deliver. You can expect to hear more about:
how we’re helping people to think less about solutions and more about the outcomes they want to achieve
how we’re embedding user research skills in our teams to inform product development
how we’re applying agile thinking to improve the way we deliver
This is the keynote address for the SWFLN 2018 Staff Development day. We talked about how to be on the cutting edge of providing library services to the public without forgetting who you are and what you do best.
This document outlines ways for newsrooms to transform to better adapt to the digital age. It recommends that leaders set the example by using social media and learning new skills. Newsrooms should change workflows to prioritize live coverage, social media, video and data. Meetings and budgets should reflect new digital priorities rather than old paper formats. The organizational chart may need to change to accommodate new positions focused on engagement, breaking news, video, and data. Extensive training is also needed in new skills like social media, video, and data analysis.

The document provides an overview of starting a business using lean startup methodology. It discusses that when starting a business, entrepreneurs should build the smallest product or service that can test assumptions and provide learning, rather than spending a long time planning or developing a large initial product. This minimum viable product approach helps reduce risk and waste by starting small and using business metrics and experiments to rapidly iterate the business model based on what is learned. The document recommends entrepreneurs focus on metrics related to the value and growth engines of the business to guide product pivots and determine if the business model is working well enough to sustain the venture.

The document demonstrates how the course utilizes multiple online platforms to facilitate discussion of human-computer interaction principles from the reading.
This document summarizes a webinar on developing habits to thrive in disruptive times. The webinar focused on 5 key habits: 1) having audacity and bold ideas, 2) questioning everything, 3) disrupting yourself before others do, 4) embracing failure and iteration, and 5) becoming a triage master. The speaker argued that disruptive times require turning disruptions into strategic advantages through courage and different thinking. He encouraged participants to unleash their disruptive courage.

The document discusses the SOAR framework as an alternative to SWOT for strategic planning. It summarizes SOAR as focusing on strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results with a collaborative rather than competitive mindset. The presentation then guides attendees through a SOAR exercise to identify their organization's strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results and how to build on them.
Social Converence - why you can't ignore itchrisabutler
The document discusses the concept of "social convergence" and how social media platforms are becoming increasingly interconnected. It notes that most people are active on major platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. It argues that by taking advantage of this connectivity through outbound social media marketing, small businesses can find real leads and prospects through platforms in an integrated, "socially convergent" way. The key is setting up content and expertise that drives leads to your business, rather than passively waiting for opportunities.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Robin van Emden, Senior Director of Data Science at Network Optix, presents the “Building and Scaling AI Applications with the Nx AI Manager,” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
In this presentation, van Emden covers the basics of scaling edge AI solutions using the Nx tool kit. He emphasizes the process of developing AI models and deploying them globally. He also showcases the conversion of AI models and the creation of effective edge AI pipelines, with a focus on pre-processing, model conversion, selecting the appropriate inference engine for the target hardware and post-processing.
van Emden shows how Nx can simplify the developer’s life and facilitate a rapid transition from concept to production-ready applications. He provides valuable insights into developing scalable and efficient edge AI solutions, with a strong focus on practical implementation.
