The Warrior Archetypes In Clannad
Everyone has their own archetype but not just one could best represent them, everyone is different in their own ways. An archetype is an original
pattern or model or symbols that represent people or things. In an archetype there is a shadow side, meaning that there is something that a person
doesn't wish to be or what they don't like about themselves. In an anime series, Clannad, there is a teenage boy named Tomoya Okazaki. He has
problems at home with his parent and feels lonely at points in his life, however whenever his friends need him he will be there for them, therefore he
is a warrior. A warrior archetype is someone who is loyal to others, inspirational, and goal orientated. However they are also self–righteous and have a

The Duchess Archetypes
Throughout the years, different forms of literature have generally shown women as weaker than men. They have played archetypes such as the mother
archetype or the lover which have traits less desirable than the roles that men would take. These archetypes tend to limit their personalities and they
become characters that are solely there for inconveniencing the hero. Stereotypes for women have affected these archetypes, but throughout history
many people have made efforts to change these archetypes and make them more desirable. Even though archetypes for women have been shown as
weak, it has changed throughout the years. Over the years stereotypes and gender roles for women affected the archetypes they typically had in
literature. They did not reflect on real life and were more enforced in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother archetype is seen as a boring archetype whose sole purpose is to take care of her family. There is also the opposite of that though,
known as the terrible mother archetype. Their character is seen as terrifying with no care for their children, which is seen in Alice's Adventures in
Wonderland. The Duchess does not follow the typical mother archetype and instead shows no interest in her child and doesn't care if she hurts it
or not. She instead leaves her baby with Alice. At the same time, the Duchess doesn't follow the terrible mother archetype as well when she is
shown to fear the queen. She has a rounded character whose character is not limited by the archetype she could be described as. This is also seen in
Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins could be classified as the mother archetype but she is not defined by it. She's a flexible character with a sense of self
worth. She avoids being an archetype or a stereotype. Although both the Duchess and Mary Poppins can be classified as some version of the mother
archetype, it does not limit their character.

The Trickster Archetype in Literature
The Trickster Archetype Archetypes are used in literature to portray a certain meaning, that helps create a better and more meaningful story. The
archetypes used can be embedded in the characters, symbols, or even rituals involved in a story. These archetypes can help give deeper meaning to the
story by giving a underlying reference to concepts that are used over and over again in literature throughout history. When an author uses an archetype
in his or her writing, they link it to many other stories that use that same archetype. Some do this for a reason, to give an underlying meaning, to
symbolized something of importance, or even just to make their story more interesting. Many readers may not notice the underlying archetype, but
sometimes the author uses them because he or she knows that the reader will. There are many different archetypes in literature. The trickster is one of
those many archetypes that is used in stories from history and continuing into modern times. The trickster is used in literature for many reasons. He
always makes the story interesting. When you first see his character in the text, you may think that he is an amicable protagonist. Usually as the story
progresses you can see him slightly unfold into something you never expected in the beginning. He is, like his name, a trickster. You could compare
him to a snake. Slithering quietly, seeming to mean no harm, so you trust that he won't bite. You let him go about his business and do what he

Examples Of Archetypes In Critical Literature
Introduction My Work There is one teacher who told me:" Books are mystery, you don't know what is inside them so we must read to be able to

so, what he means is the Mythology lens in Critical Literature will allow me and the readers to reach the puzzle events and understand them

he is strong, genius; He also said that "I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived!"[pg4 Harrison Bergeron]. The next one is Diana Moon

what I think, this whole story can be one big Event archetype. Inside the story, everyone has to wear handicap tools and it makes people around the
world have the same Intelligent Quotient: "George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear"[pg1
Harrison Bergeron]. The handicap tools do not makes the world easier to control but makes it going down because there will be no new invention that

Archetypes On The Rainy Road
Every single person on planet Earth has a set of personal morals; whether as basic as the old standard "tell the truth to everyone", or a more
controversial belief such as "no sex before marriage" (yourdictionary). Morals, or a lack thereof, defines the character of individuals. As Tim, the
protagonist of On the Rainy Road by Tim O'Brien discovers, personal morals are very difficult concepts to adhere to when faced with challenging
circumstances. Tim is a young man living in Minnesota, and by his own admission, "had the world dicked...summa cum laude... and a full–ride
scholarship for grad studies at Harvard" (O'Brien). In an unfortunate turn of events, Tim is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, one that he is staunchly
against. Tim tries to leave his home and go to Canada due to his beliefs against the war, but eventually comes home to fight after a period of
self–reflection. Through this figurative "journey", the author uses the fundamental plot archetype of the journey from innocence to experience to
demonstrate how adversity exposes the inherent human flaws in even the best people. Tim begins the story at his familiar environment in Minnesota.
The archetypal journey typically consists of five major steps, being; an innocent start in a familiar environment, followed by a descent into danger and
a battle with "demons" throughout which experience is gained, ultimately ending in a return home (TVDSB). As Tim confesses, he "had taken a
modest stand against the war", however he

Archetypes In King Arthur And Odysseus
Archetypes have persisted in literary works through the sands of time and continue to be applied in today's literature. Throughout traditional and
modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue
that the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes
within the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of archetypes in
different cultures and time periods.
The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in British and Greekculture respectively. Although each
hero delineates his own culture's values during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero archetype.
In Homer's The Odyssey, Odysseus is representative of the Greek values of rule through Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents
British values of rule without the significant influence of supernatural beings. Granted that each story contains nearly opposite values, the hero
archetype is still able to resonate in both characters. One of the main heroic aspects portrayed by each character is their dynamic personalities. Both
King Arthur and Odysseus are distinguished as vigorous, audacious, and most importantly wise in each of their

Archetypes In The Film Big
Archetypes are a recurring actions or attributes that represent definitive events in a person's life or a specific character. They are universal emblems in
literature that correspond to various aspects of human, behavior, and culture. They are usually incorporated, by writers to symbolize relationships
between divergent charterers, situations or symbolically natural opposites. They are a major factor in writing literature because they help shape a
piece of literature. Archetypes are a major part they help illuminate the purpose of different characters and bonds between each other. The film Big is a
classic film due to, the captivating idea of turning a boy into a man and the use of specific archetypes such as mentors, earth mother, star–crossed
lovers and much more. It also is an excellent presentation of the archetypical cycle. The Archetypical cycle is a movement of change in which a

Characters from one story to another may have different names, but their characteristics are often repeated. Applying Archetypal Theory to a text
allows readers to recognize universal symbols, motifs, and patterns that appear in literature, myths, dreams, oral traditions, songs, and religions.
Archetypal critics believe certain images, characters, and character types recur in literature, and all plots and characters are based on common myths,
images, dreams, fairy tales, and legends (Davidson). Common character types are revealed when applying Archetypal Theory to Julia Alvarez'snovel,

The Lion mentions "Melted! Well that is good news, indeed, "said the man "who melted her?" "It was Dorothy" said the Lion gravely."(100). On her
quest back home Dorothy learns about life 's trials and successfully completes her task, while maturing and finding her new self–confidence and
understanding as she passes test after test. We can connect to this hero archetype because in our lives we have come across an individual who has
helped or saved us from a difficult situation or problem. The devil figure in the novel was portrayed by the Wicked Witch of the West, she is
shown as the most evil and conniving character in the novel. She threatens to kill Toto and Destroy Dorothy and her friends in order to obtain the

Scott Francis points out that "Archetypes force us to delve deeper into them, characters to see them as not just character I or Librarian but as a type
of person who responds in very specific ways to the conflict within your story". All the archetypes affect the storyline in minor or major ways, such
as the devil figure, without that figure in the plot, Dorothy would have never been able to develop as a character. Themes are the key points of the

Archetypes In Hamlet
Archetypes are a constant throughout the classic of literature, an invaluable tool for the character's thought process and how they'll react to everything.
Even the infamous playwright and poet, William Shakespeare, uses it to enhances his stories. For instance, in Shakespeare's Hamlet, the play is
known for its archetype. For instance, Laertes is often considered as the doppelganger archetype of Hamlet. Often, he's believed to be the only one
that's able to fill in the position of equal standing with Hamlet. However, although many people would've come to the assumption that Laertes is
Hamlet's doppelganger, because of his desires for vengeance against the people who've wronged him and how his personality contrasts Hamlet's
character, Ophelia is the true foil of not only Hamlet, but Laertes as well.
However, to understand archetypes, it's a must to start with a little review on psychoanalysis, especially its evolution. From the beginning of
archetypes, it began with Carl Jung, in the late nineteenth to the mid–twentieth century, being considered the successor of psychoanalysis. Similar to
Sigmund Freud, Jung was fascinated by the human being's psyche and its evolution over time. He believed a person's past, aspirations, and experiences
shape their characters–– who'd they become in the future. However, while both psychologists' studies revolved around a person's psyche and their
mental wellbeing, Jung primarily focused on the attributes that contributed to the psyche's

Archetypes In To Kill A Mockingbird
A literary criticism is an informed written analysis or evaluation of a work of literature based on literary theory. The hero archetype type is one
common type of character used by an author which displays morality, bravery, and self sacrifice. In the fictitious novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by
Harper Lee, the hero archetype is shown in multiple characters. This archetype is used to help characterize the characters and help the reader
understand them. Thought the story Lee uses the hero archetype in the characters Atticus, Jem, and Boo Radley. Onecharacter that displays the traits of
the hero archetype is Atticus Finch. He first acts as a hero archetype when he accepts Tom's case, he says, "The only thing we've got is a black man's
word against the Ewells. The evidence boils down to you–did–I–didn't"(Lee 117). In this situation, Atticus displays his sense of morality as he accepts
this hopeless case because he believes Tom is innocent. In order to uphold his morals he defends Tom despite the risk to him and his family. This
makes him a hero as he follows his own morals despite the odds. Another example of Atticus heroism is when he defends his children against a dog,
Miss Maudie says, "but shooting is different from playing the piano or the like. I think maybe he put his gun down when he realized God had given
him an unfair advantage over most living things"(Lee 130). In this instance Atticus is brave in his diffence of his children against a rabid dog. He

The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society
The Prevalence of the Anti–Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed throughout literature and media for thousands of
years. This quixotic character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the
untoward anti–hero archetype. Today, the anti–hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero archetype is losing
prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing demand of the anti–hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti–hero
archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional
traits. The anti–hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. "Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the
anti–hero usually has a flawed moral character" (Michael). Modern anti–heroes lack in grace, power, and social success (Neimneh). They deal with
issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti–heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in
order to reach something. They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to 'justice'. Traditional hero characters often succeed
when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti–hero victory. Anti–heroes also do not let their inner
thoughts influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self–definition (Teleky). Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying
to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti–hero victory. The faultless ways of the hero archetype sets it apart
from people in society, making it extremely unrelatable to the mass amount of humans today, allowing the anti–hero archetype to prevail through. The
changes thorough media have led to the decline of the traditional hero archetype. To relate to society throughout the twentieth and twenty–first
centuries, television shows and film have had to conform to new standards. In the beginning, any film was

certain reasons. In some movies it is for survival. Our human nature tells us we need to explore to find food, paths, and other things that help us
survive. As does our human nature tell us the only way to survive is to explorer. You may not notice it, but the explorer archetype is what helps
characters in stories survive and human nature is what fuels the explorer archetype.

Archetypes In Fifth Business
Fifth Business by Robertson Davies explores the theme of Psychology through several characters. Each character has a certain archetype which will
affect how they think, showing different psychological effects. Specifically, the archetypes mentioned are the introverted, the confidant, the egotist, and
the saint. These four archetypes correlate to being the side character, the secret keeper, the self–absorbed brat, or the painfully charitable woman
respectively. Davies attempts to explore the relation between an archetype and the psychology behind it.

Dempster, also known as Mary Dempster, is a typical example of the sacred feminine. Her presence explains why Dunstan is conflicted throughout
his life. Through Dunstan's point of view, Mrs. Dempster is a saint. Mrs. Dempster is seen through rose coloured glasses as Dunstan sees her
differently than what one would normally see. In Dunstan's eyes, she is capable of miracles, to which he names three. The miracles Dunstan refers to
consists of saving his "dead" brother Willie, Dunstan's memory of her face on the battlefield of WWI, and the transformation of Joel; the
philanthropist who would have been a rapist. The third miracle only happened because she was willing to have intercourse with a vagrant solely
because "he wanted it so bad." Her archetype leads to her being painfully giving, often giving what any normal person would not. Dunstan is constantly
conflicted by Mrs. Dempster's presence, as he believes that she is a saint. Dunstan has grown too attached to her, enough for her to be considered a
mother figure. Dunstan is constantly reminded of the snowball thrown by Boy that leads to the accidental premature birth of her child, Paul. Knowing
this, Dunstan lives knowing exactly how this happened and is conflicted from her presence. Although this archetype is viewed only through Dunstan's

Christopher Boone Archetypes
Archetypes are expected examples of a person, action, or thing. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night–Time by Mark Haddon, there are two
archetypes I will discuss. The first archetype is the hero archetype, best portrayed by Christopher, the main character in the book. The second
archetype is the evil figure with a good heart, best portrayed by Christopher's dad, Ed Boone.
The hero is usually the character who fulfills a necessary task and who will restore justice to a community. In some ways Christopher Boone a
15–year–old boy with Asperger's does restore justice to a community by finding out who killed Wellington. Wellington was Mrs. Shears' dog. He was

reality his mother isn't dead and when Christopher finds out it does the opposite of what Mr. Boone intended for the outcome to be. When
Christopher finds out, he describes feeling sick. "Mother had not had a heart attack. Mother had not died. Mother had been alive all the time. And
father had lied about this"(112). Mr. Boone also killed Wellington and did not tell Christopher despite the fact that Christopher was so determined to
find out who did the deed. When Christopher finds this out, he wonders if his father is joking, but then figures out that he is not. Ultimately, Mr.

Odysseus Archetype Analysis
There was a man who was willing to risk his whole life through many difficult obstacles just to return to his family and home. The man who is willing
to risk his whole life just to return home, a mogul, and a hard worker is Odysseus. During this long heroic journey, Odysseus travels for a long time
and faces many common archetypes including monsters and temptresses. One major archetype in this novel is the hero journey Odysseus is in because it
includes all the ups and downs the main character faces. An archetype is common patterns we view in movies and books. This novel takes place
during the Greek era where they idolized Xenia because they thought it was respectful to take care of their house guests. The Greeks admired Xenia
because the Greek gods sometimes dressed up as paupers to visit people. Furthermore, the Greeks had many fears and theories about the world, so
they believed everything revolved around the gods. Throughout the Odyssey, many of the archetypes related to Greek culture such as Hero's journey,

Archetypes of Edward Scissor Hands In the words of Carl Jung, a well–known psychologist, an archetype is "An innate tendency which molds and
transforms the individual consciousness. A fact defined more through a drive than through specific inherited contents, images etc.; a matrix which
influences the human behavior as well as his ideas and concepts on the ethical, moral religious and cultural levels"(Jung). This research paper provides
different archetypes that are present in Edward Scissorhands. The 1990 film of Edward Scissor Hands portrays an American romantic fantasy film

Archetypes In Ancient Greek Odyssey
Odyssey Report: Rough Draft
In Ancient Greek mythology there are many complex and intriguing archetypes, but some were valued more than others. Archetypes were used often
in stories from Ancient Greece and in movies from the modern day. They are used extensively to the point of being trite and clichГ©, but they always
seem to work, almost as if we feel like we share similarities with the character. All humans at some point experience a sense of morality, like feeling
bad for an ant you stepped on because it had no way to defend itself. Since all humans experience this sense, would it not be too far–fetched to make
characters act according to morals too? I will be explaining three very different character archetypes in my essay: The Hero, The Innocent, and The
Antagonist. My topics are The Hero, The Innocent, and The Antagonist character archetypes and the behaviors attributed to them.
Heros normally display qualities that most of us could only dream about, but the skills Odyssey portrays aren't otherworldly or superhuman, they are
cunning, bravery, and honor. Odysseus's cunning is shown rather quickly with the escape scene in "The Cyclops" where on page 571 and 572 it
shows his ingenuity and improvisational skills when he straps himself and his men to the bottom of Polyphemus' sheep and rams. This scene also
shows his patience, which also is collaborated with cunning by writers, with how he didn't panic when Polyphemus stopped the ram he was hanging on
because it was

Primadonna Archetypes
To me, an archetype is a recurring symbol literature and mythology. An archetypal story that stood out for me would be the storyline of Marina and
the Diamonds album Electra Heart (2012) that defined many archetypes of the stereotypical American culture, had its roots to the origins of
archetypes, which would be Greek mythology and the Greek tragedies. One of the songs, titled "Primadonna", was the concept of obviously believing
you're more worthy of attention than others and can be compared to the goddess Hebe, who is the Greek goddess of youth, which can show ties to a
primadonna being vain and self–obsessed and the ancient desire of immortality. Another archetype would be found in another song titled "The State of
Dreaming", where the singer

Analysis Of The Great Mother Archetype
After consciousness passes through the uroboric stage, the next archetypal symbol Neumann offers is that of the Great Mother. Similar to the uroboros,
the Great Mother typically enters the mythical realm as the first sexed being within it. Still possessing the ability to create without a partner, this figure
is often linked to nature, fertility and the unconscious. At this stage, the ego has not fully established independence from its unconscious source, which
is apparent in the sexed son–lovers, created by the Great Mother to beget more creation unto her world (often at the sacrifice of the male counterpart).
Diotima's variation of the origin of Love (Eros) demonstrates an interesting embodiment of the Great Mother Archetype ... Show more content on

In this way, the nature of Love is hermaphroditic, not in the sense that it hasn't escaped the uroboric stage development with an undeveloped germ–like
ego floating in a vast sea of unconsciousness; but rather that this god, this spirit, this being marks a true return of the fundamental unity the uroboros
represents. Through its conscious will Love seeks to attain the fullness ardently desired by its unconscious, willfully ignorant that any beauty or
wisdom it holds will slip away the second he grasps for a second handful. I find this origin not only provocative but also profoundly moving. I also think
it has interesting implications for Neumann's interpretation of the role of the feminine and masculine within the Uroboros (and the Great Mother as
well). Neumann himself says that, "Hunger and food are the prime movers of mankind" (27). Applying this declaration to Diotima's myth, the
connection to Poverty as the prime mover is more than apparent. It is precisely this emptiness, this lacking which drives her to join with Resource and
create Love, and in this sense, it is she, not the masculine element who acts as the "initial movement, the procreative thrust" (Neumann 18). Essentially,
Woman is always first, not just in presence, but in action and desire.
***
Moving on to what was actually assigned, I decided to examine the myth of Adonis and Aphrodite. Since Neumann specifically mentions the many
Greek myths in which beautiful male youths die

Odyssey Archetype Essay
Much information about Ancient Greek culture and what they valued morally can be gained from Homer's epic,The Odyssey. The Odyssey has a
variety of different archetypes that are still relevant in modern times. The legend of Odyssey has been passed down from poet to poet for five hundred
years until finally Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey down somewhere between eight hundred fifty and seven hundred fifty B.C. In Homer's epic
there are three archetypes that provide insights to Ancient Greek civilizations and their morals. These are the hero archetype, the monster or villain
archetype, and the hero's journey archetype. Each archetype provides an example of what was moral, heroic, and frightening. Odysseus was considered a
hero among the people in Ancient Greek times. One strong archetype in the Odyssey is the hero archetype. "The archetype of heroism allows an
individual to serve as the primary example of what society deems as valuable and moral."(Harris 2) Ancient Greek civilizations valued strength,
loyalty, wisdom, and ingenuity. This is made known to the reader because the hero Odysseus has all of these traits. Odysseus used his knowledge,
strength, and ingenuity to his advantage in everything he did.Another example of the hero archetype in the Odyssey is "nine days I drifted in open
sea."(Homer 989) Odysseus was able to survive nine days with no food, most humans can survive for five to seven days without food or water. He was
also able to hang from a tree for a full

Emily Archetypes
What is an archetype? An archetype is a universal symbol, may be a character, a theme, a symbol or even a setting. (Literary Devices, 2016).
Archetypes can be used to describe different types of people. People can be any type of archetype good or bad. They could even be a mix of all
different kinds of archetypes. Of these different archetypes, there are two main categories heroes and villains. Heroes are for those who always
seem to have a good side, villains for those evil masterminds you call your friends. I've taken these archetypes and applied them to my friend
Emily. Emily is mostly hero, by 55%. She is also 45% villain, though. Her top Hero archetypes are the Boss with 15% and also the Librarian with
15%. Emily is a 15 % Boss because she takes charge when it comes to her grades and pushes herself to do the best she can. She is the Librarian
because she is clever which shows in her grades, but she's also controlled and knows when to hold back and when to keep quiet. Her top villain
archetypes are the Matron, the Schemer, and the Matriarch. The reason Emily is a matron is because she uses other people's work to make what
corrections are needed for hers to be turned in. Emily is a schemer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

crusader. The reason I see myself as a crusader, because I stand up for people who have problems standing up for themselves. In the villain category,
I see only one archetype that describes me, which is the fanatic. The reason I see myself as a fanatic is because I might yell at someone for doing

Archetypes In Kingsolver's The Bean Trees
Because flowers go in cycles of life and death, we can look to them as archetypes. The cycle is really closely related to the circle which is a very
prominent archetype in the world today and the past. The other thing I think of when I hear the word flowers is gardens. When I looked for the
garden archetype I found that gardens symbolize love and fertility (YourDictionary 2). Flowers and gardens also have many symbols associated with
them depending on who you ask.
Missy and her mother are shelling peas together talking about Missy getting a job (Kingsolver 5). This section reminds me of when I shelled peas with
grandma. There aren't any bean plant specific archetypes but the color green symbolizes earth and growth (YourDictionary 3). Shelling beans can
constitute a change. In the book The Bean Trees this means that Missy is likely going to come out of her shell and show who she really is. This
foreshadows a little about how likely she is going to start a life of her own and leave. This use of the symbol really adds to the story because it shows a
growth of the main character early on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I think of the marigold I think of the time when I was a child and I loved to see marigolds. They remind me of grandma's house and the
beauty of the garden. When I looked it up I found that the marigold is the flower that is most associated with the desire for riches (Month 2). By the
end of the book Missy is still interested in riches, but it's different than we would expect. Missy is interested in the riches of knowing and raising a
child who she loves and cares for. This adds depth to the story because there is a drastic difference between the beginning riches and the riches at the

The Influence Of The Mother Archetype
Archetypes are the psychological and emotional patterns that influence us unconsciously until we become aware of their power (87). The different
types of archetypes include: mother, hero, rape, and prostitute. The archetype I would like to discuss is the mother, I feel that I can relate most to this
one because I am a mother of two and daily I put their needs before my own. The mother archetype describes a woman who constantly puts the needs of
her children before her own. This act is continuous throughout the rest of her children's life. As the text states, "the woman under the influence of the

Archetypes In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Archetypes can be found in most literary work, especially in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight most characters
or objects served to aid in the development of the hero by being either a situational, character, color, or a symbol archetype. The poem begins with a
challenge being presented to the knights of the Round Tableby the Green Knight. While seeing that no one else will accept the challenge, putting
Camelot's honor at stake, Gawain accepts and then realizes that in a year they must meet again and the Green Knight will return the blow that Gawain
gave to him. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight dramatically demonstrates how a single character can play many archetypal roles.

The ultimate boon is the girdle that was given to Gawain by the Host's wife. On the third day that Gawain is staying with the Host he is given a
green girdle by the Host's wife that is said to protect the person wearing it; knowing that he will meet with the Green Knight the next day, he selfishly
keeps the girdle without telling the Host. The next day Gawain meets with the Green Knight to complete the challenge that was presented to him in
the beginning of the poem. However, since the Green Knight knows that Gawain broke the deal with the Host he cuts Gawain on the third swing of
his sword. The three swings symbolize the three days Gawain stayed at the castle. The first two swings don't touch him because he kept his part of the
deal. On the third swing he is cut, this symbolizes the third day when he keeps the girdle and breaks his part of the deal.
The author utilizes colors to aid in the development of Gawain's character: "Then they brought him his shield, which was of bright red, ... gleaming
gold" (Weston 12). The red that Gawain wears symbolizes the passion that he shows toward the deal he made with the Green Knight. The gold
symbolizes values and nobility two things that Gawain holds to a high standard. Another character whose colors stand out are the Green Knight's he
wears green and gold. The green represents the amount of envy that King Arthur's sister

Archetypes In The Hunger Games
There are many movies, shows, plays, and books that contain archetypes. It may have been hard to recognize them because you are unaware of what
they are. An archetype is a very typical example of a person or thing. Some major archetypes we see in literature are the hero, star–crossed lover,
mentor, underdog, the devil, angel, and many more. One version of literature that has many archetypes is the Hunger Games. Archetypes that are
exhibited in the Hunger Games is in many of the characters like Katniss Everdeen , Peeta Mellark, Shaymitch Abernathy, Gale Hawthorne, Primrose
Everdeen, President Snow and many more characters but some of the main archetypes that are shown in the Hunger Games is the Hero, the Underdog,
and the Star–crossed lovers. If you have not seen the Hunger Games there may be some confusion on what it is. The Hunger Games were made to
keep the districts of Panem from revolting against the capital. The 12 districts made up Panem. Every year the capital holds a annual Hunger Games

Archetypes In The Great Gatsby
According to psychoanalyst Carl Jung, everyone has a collective unconscious. The collective unconscious inhabits human instincts and archetypes. In
literature, archetypes are defined as "recurring patterns that bring about deep emotional responses in all readers" (Griffin). An example of the use of
archetypes would be in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby tells the story of a man and woman that split up just
before the man went off to war. Gatsby, said man, returns from the war only to find out Daisy, the woman, has married. Throughout the novel Gatsby
tries to woo Daisy by throwing big parties and showing off his expensive house and car. The Great Gatsby begins in late spring/early summer; Both
seasons align with a certain genre, which then contain several literary patterns. Spring and summer can signify the birth of a hero; Gatsby came back
to the West egg towards the end of spring and beginning of summer. Autumn can signify the downfall of the main character; Gatsby was murdered in
the fall. The Great Gatsby reflects the death & rebirth of Gatsby through the use of several archetypes.
An archetype is something that reccurs, situational archetypes are situations that happen over and over again. One situational archetype that occurs in
The Great Gatsby is the journey. The journey "sends the protagonist in search of some truth necessary to restore something missing, eventually the
protagonist discovers the deepest truths" (Griffin). In

Archetypes In Cinderella
The Conflict of Good and Evil; An Analysis of Significant Archetypes in Cinderella The struggle between good and evil is the primal conflict of the
mind, but it is the choices we make that let us overcome this conflict for the better. The age–old tale of Cinderella utilizes this concept and illustrates a
brilliant story about a young woman struggling to achieve true love while simultaneously enduring arbitrary abuse from her stepmother. Regarding this,
the more recent film adaption of the story directed by Kenneth Branagh extends the same plot into a more symbolic and archetypical piece.
Accordingly, the movie Cinderella, effectively applies several aspects of archetypes from Jung's literary theory to demonstrate how good always
triumphs over evil. The use of significant archetypes such as the hero looking for true love, a supernatural intervention, and the devil figure, all
contribute to expanding on this theme. Primarily, the heroine looking for love is one of the most substantial character archetypes that influence the
development of the story's charming plot. Specifically, this archetype applies to the main character; Cinderella, who is purely influenced by the love
she has for the Prince. Despite the barrage of unrelenting abuse from her stepmother, Ella strongly believes that the prince will return her feelings,
which motivates her to plough through her constraints with the aid of her Fairy God Mother. Regarding this, the antagonist represents the evil in the
way of the protagonist; Cinderella, which is why when she is defeated, it further accentuates the idea of good triumphing over evil. Overall, using the
"Hero as lover" archetype, the theme of the story is enhanced and portrayed effectively. Moreover, the supernatural intervention is a slightly less
prevalent yet noteworthy symbolic archetype that aids the closure of the plot. The Fairy God Mother falls under this example due to her role in
assisting the protagonist with her divine and magical powers; explicitly, equipping Cinderella with a dress, a chariot, and her iconic glass shoes. The
Godmother is a spiritual being who only awakens after realizing Ella's extreme desperation, she promptly aids her with any necessary gifts which
allows her to

multiple archetypes within the work. This criticism displays how reoccurring symbols, situations, and themes help develop the story. Throughout the
novel, the archetypes being the hero, victim, and the tree as a symbol for friendship are used. The hero archetype is reflected numerous times in

Tom Robinson, who was the main victim of the novel, had been defended by Atticus who had said, " And so a quiet, respectable, humble negro
who had the unmitigated temerity to 'feel sorry' for a white woman has had to put his word against two white people's" (Lee 273). Tom came to be
a victim because he suffered from the statements that Bob Ewell said and was cheated. Although he is against white people who have their stories
wrong and filled of lies, he is the one who loses the case when this should not have been what occurred. As a result of this, it causes him to be sent
to prison where he later kills himself. This is due to the fact that this ruined his emotional state which led to the build up to his death. Similarly,
Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by people such as Miss Stephanie Crawford whose rumors say, "As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the
scissors into his parent's leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities" (Lee 13). Boo is a victim because he is
deceived. Since not much is known about him, the town of Maycomb spreads rumors, which lead to false impressions about him. Also, he suffers
by how he is perceived because this leads for him to not come out and face all of the prejudice within Maycomb. Most importantly he is
emotionally hurt because in the beginning of the story Jem and Scout are curious about him and want to see him when he does not want to be with
anyone at all. Likewise, Jem is a victim as he was being helped from the encounter with Bob when he was with Scout because it was seen that,
"Jem's arm was dangling crazily in front of him" (Lee 353). As Jem and Scout are coming back, Jem is mainly a victim since he is physically harmed
from this event by having his arm broken by Bob Ewell. He was targeted by Ewell due to the actions of Atticus, which caused

Archetypes Shadow In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, shows the character archetypes shadow and the stern parent through the characters,
Roger and Ralph. Roger becomes the role of the shadow when he destroys the littluns' sandcastles and throws rocks at Henry. When Roger and
Maurice are relieved from fire duty, they head to the beach for a nice relaxing swim in the ocean after hours of caring for the fire. When they arrive
at the beach, Roger makes a last minute decision to destroy the littluns' sandcastles with Maurice following. Roger feels no remorse as he charges
"straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones." (79) The shadow of the dark side is known for
having traits of an antagonist, which entails having to commit a literary conflict and have an overall negative presence. Roger meets the criteria by
destroying the littluns' sandcastles for no reason other than his own twisted enjoyment. Although Roger feels no shame in destroying the sandcastles,
Maurice on the other hand "felt the unease of his wrong doing." (80) Even though there is no one to punish Maurice and Roger, Maurice feels guilty
and ashamed while Roger is amused and unrepentant. The fact that Roger only feels sorry when there is someone who can punish him effectively
proves Golding's theory that people are inherently evil. In addition to Roger happily smashing the littluns' sandcastles, he goes out of his way to then
mess with Henry.

Archetypes In Lord Of The Flies
There are many archetypes people may find and play a role in an archetype in life but many don't realize the character archetypes of other people
and themselves. A group of boys is shot down from a plane and are stuck on a deserted island. Ralph and Piggy use a white conch to call all the
boys together. Then, Ralph is elected as the chief. During one of the nights, Samneric see a body attached to a parachute and think it's a beast.
Simon imagines the Lord of the Flies talking to him and then goes on to tell the other boys that the beast is just a dead pilot. When Simon arrives
to Castle Rock, where Jack's tribe was, the boys were there and they all attack Simon, thinking that he is the beast. After Piggy gets killed by a rock
that Roger rolls and Samneric are forced to join Jack's tribe, Ralph is forced to hide from Jack's tribe. After Ralph hides in the thicket, he runs trying
to get away and falls on the beach in front of a naval officer. In William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies, the archetypal learner, Ralph, reveals
innocence, inexperience, separation from familiar surroundings, endures and overcomes obstacles to reach a goal, and returns to familiar surrounding
with wisdom gained while the archetypal nurturer, Piggy, reveals a clear emotional bond with the learner and protects the learner showing there is

The Warrior Archetypes In Clannad

  • 1. The Warrior Archetypes In Clannad Everyone has their own archetype but not just one could best represent them, everyone is different in their own ways. An archetype is an original pattern or model or symbols that represent people or things. In an archetype there is a shadow side, meaning that there is something that a person doesn't wish to be or what they don't like about themselves. In an anime series, Clannad, there is a teenage boy named Tomoya Okazaki. He has problems at home with his parent and feels lonely at points in his life, however whenever his friends need him he will be there for them, therefore he is a warrior. A warrior archetype is someone who is loyal to others, inspirational, and goal orientated. However they are also self–righteous and have a great sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Duchess Archetypes Throughout the years, different forms of literature have generally shown women as weaker than men. They have played archetypes such as the mother archetype or the lover which have traits less desirable than the roles that men would take. These archetypes tend to limit their personalities and they become characters that are solely there for inconveniencing the hero. Stereotypes for women have affected these archetypes, but throughout history many people have made efforts to change these archetypes and make them more desirable. Even though archetypes for women have been shown as weak, it has changed throughout the years. Over the years stereotypes and gender roles for women affected the archetypes they typically had in literature. They did not reflect on real life and were more enforced in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mother archetype is seen as a boring archetype whose sole purpose is to take care of her family. There is also the opposite of that though, known as the terrible mother archetype. Their character is seen as terrifying with no care for their children, which is seen in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Duchess does not follow the typical mother archetype and instead shows no interest in her child and doesn't care if she hurts it or not. She instead leaves her baby with Alice. At the same time, the Duchess doesn't follow the terrible mother archetype as well when she is shown to fear the queen. She has a rounded character whose character is not limited by the archetype she could be described as. This is also seen in Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins could be classified as the mother archetype but she is not defined by it. She's a flexible character with a sense of self worth. She avoids being an archetype or a stereotype. Although both the Duchess and Mary Poppins can be classified as some version of the mother archetype, it does not limit their character. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Trickster Archetype in Literature The Trickster Archetype Archetypes are used in literature to portray a certain meaning, that helps create a better and more meaningful story. The archetypes used can be embedded in the characters, symbols, or even rituals involved in a story. These archetypes can help give deeper meaning to the story by giving a underlying reference to concepts that are used over and over again in literature throughout history. When an author uses an archetype in his or her writing, they link it to many other stories that use that same archetype. Some do this for a reason, to give an underlying meaning, to symbolized something of importance, or even just to make their story more interesting. Many readers may not notice the underlying archetype, but sometimes the author uses them because he or she knows that the reader will. There are many different archetypes in literature. The trickster is one of those many archetypes that is used in stories from history and continuing into modern times. The trickster is used in literature for many reasons. He always makes the story interesting. When you first see his character in the text, you may think that he is an amicable protagonist. Usually as the story progresses you can see him slightly unfold into something you never expected in the beginning. He is, like his name, a trickster. You could compare him to a snake. Slithering quietly, seeming to mean no harm, so you trust that he won't bite. You let him go about his business and do what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Archetypes In Critical Literature Introduction My Work There is one teacher who told me:" Books are mystery, you don't know what is inside them so we must read to be able to find out". It is true that we have to read the inside of a book to see what it talks about but does not mean that they are a mystery. So why he told me so, what he means is the Mythology lens in Critical Literature will allow me and the readers to reach the puzzle events and understand them thoroughly and using this technique, we can figure out all of the mystery events in all these books: "Through the looking glass, Brave new world, Heart of darkness and Harrison... Firstly is Character Archetype, Harrison Bergeron can be seen as "The Ruler" because he is strong, genius; He also said that "I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived!"[pg4 Harrison Bergeron]. The next one is Diana Moon Glampers, she could be "The Rebel" archetype. Since she is the one who dumping down the one that is above average, "Diana Moon Glampers loaded the gun again. She aimed it at the musicians and told them they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on."[pg5 Harrison Bergeron]. To what I think, this whole story can be one big Event archetype. Inside the story, everyone has to wear handicap tools and it makes people around the world have the same Intelligent Quotient: "George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear"[pg1 Harrison Bergeron]. • 6. Archetypes On The Rainy Road Every single person on planet Earth has a set of personal morals; whether as basic as the old standard "tell the truth to everyone", or a more controversial belief such as "no sex before marriage" (yourdictionary). Morals, or a lack thereof, defines the character of individuals. As Tim, the protagonist of On the Rainy Road by Tim O'Brien discovers, personal morals are very difficult concepts to adhere to when faced with challenging circumstances. Tim is a young man living in Minnesota, and by his own admission, "had the world dicked...summa cum laude... and a full–ride scholarship for grad studies at Harvard" (O'Brien). In an unfortunate turn of events, Tim is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, one that he is staunchly against. Tim tries to leave his home and go to Canada due to his beliefs against the war, but eventually comes home to fight after a period of self–reflection. Through this figurative "journey", the author uses the fundamental plot archetype of the journey from innocence to experience to demonstrate how adversity exposes the inherent human flaws in even the best people. Tim begins the story at his familiar environment in Minnesota. The archetypal journey typically consists of five major steps, being; an innocent start in a familiar environment, followed by a descent into danger and a battle with "demons" throughout which experience is gained, ultimately ending in a return home (TVDSB). • 8. Archetypes In King Arthur And Odysseus Archetypes have persisted in literary works through the sands of time and continue to be applied in today's literature. Throughout traditional and modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue that the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes within the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of archetypes in different cultures and time periods. The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in British and Greekculture respectively. Although each hero delineates his own culture's values during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero archetype. In Homer's The Odyssey, Odysseus is representative of the Greek values of rule through Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents British values of rule without the significant influence of supernatural beings. Granted that each story contains nearly opposite values, the hero archetype is still able to resonate in both characters. One of the main heroic aspects portrayed by each character is their dynamic personalities. We can connect to this hero archetype because in our lives we have come across an individual who has helped or saved us from a difficult situation or problem. The devil figure in the novel was portrayed by the Wicked Witch of the West, she is shown as the most evil and conniving character in the novel. All the archetypes affect the storyline in minor or major ways, such as the devil figure, without that figure in the plot, Dorothy would have never been able to develop as a character. • 12. Archetypes In Hamlet Archetypes are a constant throughout the classic of literature, an invaluable tool for the character's thought process and how they'll react to everything. Even the infamous playwright and poet, William Shakespeare, uses it to enhances his stories. For instance, in Shakespeare's Hamlet, the play is known for its archetype. For instance, Laertes is often considered as the doppelganger archetype of Hamlet. Often, he's believed to be the only one that's able to fill in the position of equal standing with Hamlet. However, although many people would've come to the assumption that Laertes is Hamlet's doppelganger, because of his desires for vengeance against the people who've wronged him and how his personality contrasts Hamlet's character, Ophelia is the true foil of not only Hamlet, but Laertes as well. However, to understand archetypes, it's a must to start with a little review on psychoanalysis, especially its evolution. From the beginning of archetypes, it began with Carl Jung, in the late nineteenth to the mid–twentieth century, being considered the successor of psychoanalysis. Similar to Sigmund Freud, Jung was fascinated by the human being's psyche and its evolution over time. He believed a person's past, aspirations, and experiences shape their characters–– who'd they become in the future. However, while both psychologists' studies revolved around a person's psyche and their mental wellbeing, Jung primarily focused on the attributes that contributed to the psyche's ... The hero archetype type is one common type of character used by an author which displays morality, bravery, and self sacrifice. In the fictitious novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the hero archetype is shown in multiple characters. This archetype is used to help characterize the characters and help the reader understand them. Thought the story Lee uses the hero archetype in the characters Atticus, Jem, and Boo Radley. Onecharacter that displays the traits of the hero archetype is Atticus Finch. He first acts as a hero archetype when he accepts Tom's case, he says, "The only thing we've got is a black man's word against the Ewells. The evidence boils down to you–did–I–didn't"(Lee 117). In this situation, Atticus displays his sense of morality as he accepts this hopeless case because he believes Tom is innocent. In order to uphold his morals he defends Tom despite the risk to him and his family. This makes him a hero as he follows his own morals despite the odds. Another example of Atticus heroism is when he defends his children against a dog, Miss Maudie says, "but shooting is different from playing the piano or the like. • 14. The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society The Prevalence of the Anti–Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the untoward anti–hero archetype. Today, the anti–hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing demand of the anti–hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti–hero archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti–hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. "Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti–hero usually has a flawed moral character" (Michael). Modern anti–heroes lack in grace, power, and social success (Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti–heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something. They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to 'justice'. Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti–hero victory. Anti–heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self–definition (Teleky). Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti–hero victory. The faultless ways of the hero archetype sets it apart from people in society, making it extremely unrelatable to the mass amount of humans today, allowing the anti–hero archetype to prevail through. The changes thorough media have led to the decline of the traditional hero archetype. To relate to society throughout the twentieth and twenty–first centuries, television shows and film have had to conform to new standards. In the beginning, any film was ... In most of the stories, the explorer archetype has helped the character to achieve something or help them survive. • 17. Archetypes In Fifth Business Fifth Business by Robertson Davies explores the theme of Psychology through several characters. Each character has a certain archetype which will affect how they think, showing different psychological effects. Specifically, the archetypes mentioned are the introverted, the confidant, the egotist, and the saint. These four archetypes correlate to being the side character, the secret keeper, the self–absorbed brat, or the painfully charitable woman respectively. Davies attempts to explore the relation between an archetype and the psychology behind it. Dempster, also known as Mary Dempster, is a typical example of the sacred feminine. Her presence explains why Dunstan is conflicted throughout his life. Through Dunstan's point of view, Mrs. Dempster is a saint. Mrs. Dempster is seen through rose coloured glasses as Dunstan sees her differently than what one would normally see. In Dunstan's eyes, she is capable of miracles, to which he names three. The miracles Dunstan refers to consists of saving his "dead" brother Willie, Dunstan's memory of her face on the battlefield of WWI, and the transformation of Joel; the philanthropist who would have been a rapist. The third miracle only happened because she was willing to have intercourse with a vagrant solely because "he wanted it so bad." Her archetype leads to her being painfully giving, often giving what any normal person would not. Dunstan is constantly conflicted by Mrs. Dempster's presence, as he believes that she is a saint. Dunstan has grown too attached to her, enough for her to be considered a mother figure. Dunstan is constantly reminded of the snowball thrown by Boy that leads to the accidental premature birth of her child, Paul. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. This pattern is about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba experiences with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because Simba had to learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be classified as the hero. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night–Time by Mark Haddon, there are two archetypes I will discuss. The first archetype is the hero archetype, best portrayed by Christopher, the main character in the book. The second archetype is the evil figure with a good heart, best portrayed by Christopher's dad, Ed Boone. The hero is usually the character who fulfills a necessary task and who will restore justice to a community. The man who is willing to risk his whole life just to return home, a mogul, and a hard worker is Odysseus. During this long heroic journey, Odysseus travels for a long time and faces many common archetypes including monsters and temptresses. One major archetype in this novel is the hero journey Odysseus is in because it includes all the ups and downs the main character faces. An archetype is common patterns we view in movies and books. This novel takes place during the Greek era where they idolized Xenia because they thought it was respectful to take care of their house guests. The Greeks admired Xenia because the Greek gods sometimes dressed up as paupers to visit people. Furthermore, the Greeks had many fears and theories about the world, so they believed everything revolved around the gods. • 23. Archetypes In Ancient Greek Odyssey Odyssey Report: Rough Draft In Ancient Greek mythology there are many complex and intriguing archetypes, but some were valued more than others. Archetypes were used often in stories from Ancient Greece and in movies from the modern day. They are used extensively to the point of being trite and clichГ©, but they always seem to work, almost as if we feel like we share similarities with the character. All humans at some point experience a sense of morality, like feeling bad for an ant you stepped on because it had no way to defend itself. Since all humans experience this sense, would it not be too far–fetched to make characters act according to morals too? I will be explaining three very different character archetypes in my essay: The Hero, The Innocent, and The Antagonist. My topics are The Hero, The Innocent, and The Antagonist character archetypes and the behaviors attributed to them. Heros normally display qualities that most of us could only dream about, but the skills Odyssey portrays aren't otherworldly or superhuman, they are cunning, bravery, and honor. Odysseus's cunning is shown rather quickly with the escape scene in "The Cyclops" where on page 571 and 572 it shows his ingenuity and improvisational skills when he straps himself and his men to the bottom of Polyphemus' sheep and rams. This scene also shows his patience, which also is collaborated with cunning by writers, with how he didn't panic when Polyphemus stopped the ram he was hanging on because it was ... One of the songs, titled "Primadonna", was the concept of obviously believing you're more worthy of attention than others and can be compared to the goddess Hebe, who is the Greek goddess of youth, which can show ties to a primadonna being vain and self–obsessed and the ancient desire of immortality. • 25. Analysis Of The Great Mother Archetype After consciousness passes through the uroboric stage, the next archetypal symbol Neumann offers is that of the Great Mother. Similar to the uroboros, the Great Mother typically enters the mythical realm as the first sexed being within it. Still possessing the ability to create without a partner, this figure is often linked to nature, fertility and the unconscious. At this stage, the ego has not fully established independence from its unconscious source, which is apparent in the sexed son–lovers, created by the Great Mother to beget more creation unto her world (often at the sacrifice of the male counterpart). Diotima's variation of the origin of Love (Eros) demonstrates an interesting embodiment of the Great Mother Archetype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, the nature of Love is hermaphroditic, not in the sense that it hasn't escaped the uroboric stage development with an undeveloped germ–like ego floating in a vast sea of unconsciousness; but rather that this god, this spirit, this being marks a true return of the fundamental unity the uroboros represents. Through its conscious will Love seeks to attain the fullness ardently desired by its unconscious, willfully ignorant that any beauty or wisdom it holds will slip away the second he grasps for a second handful. I find this origin not only provocative but also profoundly moving. I also think it has interesting implications for Neumann's interpretation of the role of the feminine and masculine within the Uroboros (and the Great Mother as well). Neumann himself says that, "Hunger and food are the prime movers of mankind" (27). Applying this declaration to Diotima's myth, the connection to Poverty as the prime mover is more than apparent. It is precisely this emptiness, this lacking which drives her to join with Resource and create Love, and in this sense, it is she, not the masculine element who acts as the "initial movement, the procreative thrust" (Neumann 18). Essentially, Woman is always first, not just in presence, but in action and desire. *** Moving on to what was actually assigned, I decided to examine the myth of Adonis and Aphrodite. • 26. Odyssey Archetype Essay Much information about Ancient Greek culture and what they valued morally can be gained from Homer's epic,The Odyssey. The Odyssey has a variety of different archetypes that are still relevant in modern times. The legend of Odyssey has been passed down from poet to poet for five hundred years until finally Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey down somewhere between eight hundred fifty and seven hundred fifty B.C. In Homer's epic there are three archetypes that provide insights to Ancient Greek civilizations and their morals. These are the hero archetype, the monster or villain archetype, and the hero's journey archetype. Each archetype provides an example of what was moral, heroic, and frightening. Odysseus was considered a hero among the people in Ancient Greek times. One strong archetype in the Odyssey is the hero archetype. "The archetype of heroism allows an individual to serve as the primary example of what society deems as valuable and moral."(Harris 2) Ancient Greek civilizations valued strength, loyalty, wisdom, and ingenuity. This is made known to the reader because the hero Odysseus has all of these traits. Odysseus used his knowledge, strength, and ingenuity to his advantage in everything he did.Another example of the hero archetype in the Odyssey is "nine days I drifted in open sea."(Homer 989) Odysseus was able to survive nine days with no food, most humans can survive for five to seven days without food or water. Of these different archetypes, there are two main categories heroes and villains. Heroes are for those who always seem to have a good side, villains for those evil masterminds you call your friends. Her top Hero archetypes are the Boss with 15% and also the Librarian with 15%. Emily is a 15 % Boss because she takes charge when it comes to her grades and pushes herself to do the best she can. She is the Librarian because she is clever which shows in her grades, but she's also controlled and knows when to hold back and when to keep quiet. The cycle is really closely related to the circle which is a very prominent archetype in the world today and the past. The other thing I think of when I hear the word flowers is gardens. When I looked for the garden archetype I found that gardens symbolize love and fertility (YourDictionary 2). Flowers and gardens also have many symbols associated with them depending on who you ask. The next day Gawain meets with the Green Knight to complete the challenge that was presented to him in the beginning of the poem. • 32. Archetypes In The Great Gatsby According to psychoanalyst Carl Jung, everyone has a collective unconscious. The collective unconscious inhabits human instincts and archetypes. In literature, archetypes are defined as "recurring patterns that bring about deep emotional responses in all readers" (Griffin). An example of the use of archetypes would be in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby tells the story of a man and woman that split up just before the man went off to war. Gatsby, said man, returns from the war only to find out Daisy, the woman, has married. Throughout the novel Gatsby tries to woo Daisy by throwing big parties and showing off his expensive house and car. The Great Gatsby begins in late spring/early summer; Both seasons align with a certain genre, which then contain several literary patterns. Spring and summer can signify the birth of a hero; Gatsby came back to the West egg towards the end of spring and beginning of summer. Autumn can signify the downfall of the main character; Gatsby was murdered in the fall. The Great Gatsby reflects the death & rebirth of Gatsby through the use of several archetypes. An archetype is something that reccurs, situational archetypes are situations that happen over and over again. One situational archetype that occurs in The Great Gatsby is the journey. • 33. Archetypes In Cinderella The Conflict of Good and Evil; An Analysis of Significant Archetypes in Cinderella The struggle between good and evil is the primal conflict of the mind, but it is the choices we make that let us overcome this conflict for the better. The age–old tale of Cinderella utilizes this concept and illustrates a brilliant story about a young woman struggling to achieve true love while simultaneously enduring arbitrary abuse from her stepmother. Regarding this, the more recent film adaption of the story directed by Kenneth Branagh extends the same plot into a more symbolic and archetypical piece. Accordingly, the movie Cinderella, effectively applies several aspects of archetypes from Jung's literary theory to demonstrate how good always triumphs over evil. The use of significant archetypes such as the hero looking for true love, a supernatural intervention, and the devil figure, all contribute to expanding on this theme. Primarily, the heroine looking for love is one of the most substantial character archetypes that influence the development of the story's charming plot. Specifically, this archetype applies to the main character; Cinderella, who is purely influenced by the love she has for the Prince. Despite the barrage of unrelenting abuse from her stepmother, Ella strongly believes that the prince will return her feelings, which motivates her to plough through her constraints with the aid of her Fairy God Mother. Regarding this, the antagonist represents the evil in the way of the protagonist; Cinderella, which is why when she is defeated, it further accentuates the idea of good triumphing over evil. Overall, using the "Hero as lover" archetype, the theme of the story is enhanced and portrayed effectively. Moreover, the supernatural intervention is a slightly less prevalent yet noteworthy symbolic archetype that aids the closure of the plot. The Fairy God Mother falls under this example due to her role in assisting the protagonist with her divine and magical powers; explicitly, equipping Cinderella with a dress, a chariot, and her iconic glass shoes. The Godmother is a spiritual being who only awakens after realizing Ella's extreme desperation, she promptly aids her with any necessary gifts which allows her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarly, Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by people such as Miss Stephanie Crawford whose rumors say, "As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent's leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities" (Lee 13). When Roger and Maurice are relieved from fire duty, they head to the beach for a nice relaxing swim in the ocean after hours of caring for the fire. When they arrive at the beach, Roger makes a last minute decision to destroy the littluns' sandcastles with Maurice following. Roger feels no remorse as he charges "straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones." (79) The shadow of the dark side is known for having traits of an antagonist, which entails having to commit a literary conflict and have an overall negative presence. Roger meets the criteria by destroying the littluns' sandcastles for no reason other than his own twisted enjoyment. Although Roger feels no shame in destroying the sandcastles, Maurice on the other hand "felt the unease of his wrong doing." (80) Even though there is no one to punish Maurice and Roger, Maurice feels guilty and ashamed while Roger is amused and unrepentant. The fact that Roger only feels sorry when there is someone who can punish him effectively proves Golding's theory that people are inherently evil. In addition to Roger happily smashing the littluns' sandcastles, he goes out of his way to then mess with Henry. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
