“Coming from Jordan to Sheffield was
a big change. I was nervous at the
beginning. Then I found there was so
much support. Then it became really
exciting and amazing.
I just love the diversity here. You learn a lot more
than just the topics you’re studying; you get to
learn about people, and cultures, including the
British culture, which is really awesome.”

The ideal location for student life
Sheffield is one of the UK’s most popular
places for students to go to university. The
city is large enough to offer a great range of
restaurants, shopping, theatre, cinemas, bars
and culture; yet small enough to find your way
around quickly and feel part of the community.
Sheffield is the fourth largest city in England
and just over two hours by train from London.
The UK’s greenest city
Sheffield is the UK’s greenest city and offers
many spaces for you to relax in the sunshine
or rain. For example, the indoor Winter Garden
in the city centre offers a sheltered place to
relax. There’s a quiet, modern tram system to
get you around too. If you’re looking for more
space, the Peak District National Park is just
outside the city – perfect for hiking, climbing
or a picnic. You can walk there or take a bus
or train to enjoy the local countryside.
A safe, friendly and affordable home
Sheffield is a safe and friendly multicultural
city. This was proven when the UK Peace Index
ranked Sheffield as England’s safest major
city in 2013.
The cost of living in Sheffield is also low
compared to other student cities in the UK.
Accommodation, travel and entertainment
are all available at affordable prices. Most
University buildings are within a short walking
distance. It’s easy to get around the city on
foot but trams and buses are also available.
Our students are valued as a part of the
city’s vibrant community which is home to
more than 50,000 students. Most places offer
student discounts, so make sure you keep
your student ID with you to save money on
food, entertainment and shopping!

“I came to university very much ready to focus on my
studies and not once did I consider how I would be
changed through my experiences or how I would grow
as an individual, learning more things about myself and
begin to define who I am.
The University provides ample opportunities
for you to expand your skill set and I have taken
full advantage of this. Although I may have
changed, my aspirations in life are still the same
but I am now better equipped to achieve them.
My course combines theoretical knowledge with
practical skills. This combination provides me with
hands-on practice of what I am taught in class.
A major part of the course is providing me with the
experience of developing software systems for real
clients who partner with the University. This exposure
to real-world problems, strategies and engineering
principles is particularly essential for me, as I pursue
a career as a software engineer.
I have had a fantastic experience as an international
student at the University. The population of the University
is very much multicultural and students are encouraged
to integrate with each other.”

it was the first time I came to the UK alone and I was a
bit nervous. I was also excited to start my new university

The University had meet and greet groups. They picked
me up at the airport, I felt very welcomed by them and
they were so friendly. They were helping me to carry

The staff and students are very friendly and

Disclaimer
This brochure is issued for the general guidance of students
considering entry to the University of Sheffield International College
from September 2016.
The information is correct at the time of going to press and the
programmes and services described herein are those which Study
Group is planning to offer.
We make every effort to ensure that the content of our prospectus,
website and other materials is accurate. However, on occasion it may
be necessary to alter certain aspects of a module or programme, for
example if changes are required to meet external requirements; or if
programmes are over-subscribed and the quality of teaching would
be adversely affected as a result.
In such circumstances we may have to alter the timetable, change
the teaching location of the programme or, in extreme cases, cancel
or substantially amend the content of the programme. Should any of
these changes become necessary, we will give you as much notice as
possible before they come into effect and ensure that any disruption
to your studies is minimised.
If your programme is cancelled, we will work in consultation with
you to offer a suitable alternative, subject to meeting the admission
requirements for that programme or the opportunity to obtain a
refund of any advance payments you have made for the programme.
The alternative programme may not be at the same ISC as the
original offer.
Courses offered in this prospectus are validated by the University.
The University of Sheffield International College (where applicable)
also reserves the right to amend the regulations governing those
programmes without prior notice. Study Group therefore strongly
recommends that immediately prior to making any application to / or
accepting any offer you should refer to the most up-to-date version
of the programme descriptions and specifications and the regulations
on The University of Sheffield International College website.
Neither the University nor Study Group shall be liable for any errors
or omissions that may be contained in this prospectus.
The University of Sheffield International College is
provided by Study Group working in collaboration with
the University of Sheffield.

The University provides ample opportunities for you to expand your skill set and I have taken full advantage of this. Although I may have changed, my aspirations in life are still the same but I am now better equipped to achieve them. My course combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. This combination provides me with hands-on practice of what I am taught in class. A major part of the course is providing me with the experience of developing software systems for real clients who partner with the University. This exposure to real-world problems, strategies and engineering principles is particularly essential for me, as I pursue a career as a software engineer. I have had a fantastic experience as an international student at the University. The population of the University is very much multicultural and students are encouraged to integrate with each other.” Bassey, studying Software Engineering 20833 Sheffield International College brochure 2016 PRINT.indd 26-27 09/11/2015 12:16

I was also excited to start my new university life here. The University had meet and greet groups. They picked me up at the airport, I felt very welcomed by them and they were so friendly. They were helping me to carry my luggage and introduce me to all the student services in the University. The staff and students are very friendly and I made a lot of friends in the first week I came here. I met a lot of international students and I got to know more about other cultures. They have different backgrounds so it’s fresh for me because coming all the way from China, it’s very interesting to see different people. I used to be a bit shy and not talk. The information is correct at the time of going to press and the programmes and services described herein are those which Study Group is planning to offer. We make every effort to ensure that the content of our prospectus, website and other materials is accurate. However, on occasion it may be necessary to alter certain aspects of a module or programme, for example if changes are required to meet external requirements; or if programmes are over-subscribed and the quality of teaching would be adversely affected as a result. In such circumstances we may have to alter the timetable, change the teaching location of the programme or, in extreme cases, cancel or substantially amend the content of the programme. Should any of these changes become necessary, we will give you as much notice as possible before they come into effect and ensure that any disruption to your studies is minimised. If your programme is cancelled, we will work in consultation with you to offer a suitable alternative, subject to meeting the admission requirements for that programme or the opportunity to obtain a refund of any advance payments you have made for the programme. The alternative programme may not be at the same ISC as the original offer. Courses offered in this prospectus are validated by the University. The University of Sheffield International College (where applicable) also reserves the right to amend the regulations governing those programmes without prior notice. Study Group therefore strongly recommends that immediately prior to making any application to / or accepting any offer you should refer to the most up-to-date version of the programme descriptions and specifications and the regulations on The University of Sheffield International College website. Neither the University nor Study Group shall be liable for any errors or omissions that may be contained in this prospectus.
