The United
Kingdom
• The United Kingdom
is a country in north-
western Europe and
consists of two parts:
Great Britain and
Northern Ireland.
• Great Britain
includes : Scotland ,
England and Wales.
• The United Kingdom
is an island country,
which means that it is
surrounded by the
sea. To the south its
border is The English
Channel, to the East
is the North Sea and
to the West , the Irish
Sea and the Atlantic
Ocean.
• The capital city of the
UK is London.
However, the capital of
Scotland is Edinburgh,
of England, London, of
Wales, Cardiff and of
Northern Ireland,
Belfast. The population
of the UK is ,
approximately,
60,000,000 people.
The land is about
130,279km2
The Union Flag has elements of
all parts that form the UK,
because it is a union of countries,
after all.

• The climate in the UK
is cold, rainy and
foggy. Perhaps, that is
why British people
always ask about the
weather. It is mainly
an agricultural country
and farming is really
important, although
the Industrial
Revolution began in
England in the 18th
century.
• The type of their
government is :
Constitutional
Monarchy, with
Queen Elizabeth II,
as their monarch.
• Their currency is the
Pound Sterling
(GBP)£.
• The major language is
English, but they also
speak Gaelic in parts
of the UK, mainly in
Scotland , Wales and
Northern Ireland.
People say that
English is the
international language
and that is the most
important influence of
the UK in the world.
• The main religion is
Christianity with the
Church of England
the official church. It
is, however, a
multicultural society ,
open to everybody
from everywhere .
• Scotland and its
capital Edinburgh
are very famous for
their beautiful
castles, Harry Potter
was filmed in one of
those. Scotland is
also famous for Loch
ness and its monster,
if it exists at all!
• Wales and its
capital Cardiff are
famous for its
university and the
nice landscape.
• Northern Ireland and
its capital , Belfast,
are famous for their
history. Ireland is a
country full of myths
and magic,
leprechauns and
fairies.
London is , perhaps, the
most famous city in
England. There are many
things to do and see, visit
the Big Ben, the London
Eye, the houses of
Parliament, many
museums and many
more!
London is the most
populated city in the
UK. The river Thames
runs through the city.
• The British people
are very famous for
their good manners
and the fact that they
are always on time.
Being polite is very
important. Their
sense of humour is
also very special and
different.
• Mr Bean and the
Monty Pythons are
examples of their
typical humour.The
films based on
books about James
Bond and the
stories of Agatha
Christie give us
many
characteristics of the
British people, too.
• Shakespeare , with
Romeo and Juliet
and Hamlet, Tolkien
with the Lord of the
Rings and
J.K.Rowling with
Harry Potter are
some of the most
popular writers in
the world , coming
from the UK.
• Rock music would
not be the same
without the British
as well. The
Beatles, John
Lennon, the Rolling
Stones, Deep
Purple, Rainbow,
Pink Floyd, Oasis
are a few of the
names in rock that
influenced music all
over the world.
• The British cuisine is
not very popular. One
of the few things that
are known is the
typical English
breakfast. But not
many people will like
it!
