Intelligent algorithms for cell tracking and image segmentationijcsit
Sensitive and accurate cell tracking system is important to cell motility studies. Recently, researchers have
developed several methods for detecting and tracking the living cells. To improve the living cells tracking
systems performance and accuracy, we focused on developing a novel technique for image processing. The
algorithm we propose presents novel image segmentation and tracking system technique to incorporate the
advantages of both Topological Alignments and snakes for more accurate tracking approach. The results
demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves accurate tracking for detecting and analyzing the
mobility of the living cells. The RMSE between the manual and the computed displacement was less than
12% on average. Where the Active Contour method gave a velocity RMSE of less than 11%, improves to
less than 8% by using the novel Algorithm. We have achieved better tracking and detecting for the cells,
also the ability of the system to improve the low contrast, under and over segmentation which is the most
cell tracking challenge problems and responsible for lacking accuracy in cell tracking techniques.

Algorithmic Information Theory and Computational BiologyHector Zenil
I present cutting-edge concepts and tools drawn from algorithmic information theory (AIT) for new generation genetic sequencing, network biology and bioinformatics in general. AIT is the most advanced mathematical theory of information theory formally characterising the concepts and differences between simplicity, randomness and structure. Measures of AIT will empower computational medicine and systems biology to deal with big data, sophisticated analytics and a powerful new understanding framework.
Nervous system forms an interconnecting fibers of communication network.
In the ‘hard-wiring’ of the nerves, the signals travel in the form of a flow of electrical current called nerve impulses.
The stimulus-response reactions afford internal constancy in the face of environmental changes.
This slides gives a brief description about the structure of neuron, information flow in neurons and also how transcription takesplace and protein synthesis in the cell. This presentation also explain the types of glia and non glial cells.

Understanding intelligence is one of the most challenging scientific problems faced by humanity.
This talk will provide an introduction to the multi-disciplinary field of Computational Neuroscience: the questions it seeks to answer and some of the (mathematical & computational) techniques used to investigate how we fundamentally think.
Currently doing his Computational Neuroscience PhD at the University of Cape Town, Chris has a wonderfully weird background in machine learning, neuroscience, and psychology. He is fascinated by how we think and learn, sometimes to a fault, and how this works in both biological and artificial intelligence.

Learning to learn unlearned feature for segmentationNAVER Engineering
At the very heart of cognitive psychology is the idea of information processing. Cognitive psychology sees the individual as a processor of information, in much the same way that a computer takes in information and follows a program to produce an output.Cognitive psychology compares the human mind to a computer, suggesting that we too are information processors and that it is possible and desirable to study the internal mental / mediational processes that lie between the stimuli (in our environment) and the response we make.
The information processing paradigm of cognitive psychology views that minds in terms of a computer when processing information.
However, there are important difference between humans and computers. The mind does not process information like a computer as computers don’t have emotions or get tired like humans
The field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been revitalized in this decade, primarily due to the large-scale application of Deep Learning (DL) and other Machine Learning (ML) algorithms. This has been most evident in applications like computer vision, natural language processing, and game bots. However, extraordinary successes within a short period of time have also had the unintended consequence of causing a sharp difference of opinion in research and industrial communities regarding the capabilities and limitations of deep learning. A few questions you might have heard being asked (or asked yourself) include:
a. We don’t know how Deep Neural Networks make decisions, so can we trust them?
b. Can Deep Learning deal with highly non-linear continuous systems with millions of variables?
c. Can Deep Learning solve the Artificial General Intelligence problem?
The goal of this seminar is to provide a 1000-feet view of Deep Learning and hopefully answer the questions above. The seminar will touch upon the evolution, current state of the art, and peculiarities of Deep Learning, and share thoughts on using Deep Learning as a tool for developing power system solutions.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
