Charles, his roommate, had a niece named Marcie. An official from Department of Defense, William Parcher, was also an imaginary figure.
Parcher assigned John to look for patterns in newspapers, and magazines, in order to prevent an invasion of Soviets. Negative feelings also played a
big role in Nash's life. His delusions were triggered by negative emotions. In order to treat Nash doctors administered insulin shock therapies. His
release was based on condition that he was willing to take antipsychotic drug. However, medication had negative affect on his academic and family
life. Due to this he stopped the course of taking the medicine and in return his condition became much worse. Nash was not able to avoid his delusions,

his mind. Another reason, is because he had a bad relationship with his sister. Him having those visions or delusions of her trying to kill him made
him not want to be around her. The disorder was making Ayers be someone he really wasn't. Lopez was talking to Ayers, and during their conversation,
Lopez told Ayers that he didn't know half the stuff he was saying.

The role of Nathanial Ayers was played by Jamie Foxx, and in playing that large role Mr. Foxx had to portray schizophrenic illness in the most

The homeless often don't have the ability to bathe, wash their clothing or shave. I have noticed true homeless people have more than just a
backpack with them. They sometimes carry with them or have nearby all they own. Shelters do not watch large amounts of stuff and homeless have
no place to put it, and since it may be everything they own, it tends to be nearby. Not to mention many homeless do not trust their items out of their

Nathanial Ayers portrayed the "textbook" diagnosis of schizophrenia appropriately throughout the movie. During The Soloist, Nathanial experienced

mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves; those who suffer from schizophrenia may seem like they have lost touch with

Based on a true story, The Soloist is about Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist, who is in desperate need of inspiration for his articles. Mr.
Lopez met Nathaniel Ayers in a park, not far from the news station. Nathaniel was a homeless man, playing a two–string violin when he first
encountered Steve. Steve found out Nathaniel was a former student at the Julliard School for music but did not graduate due to the side effects of his
schizophrenia. Nathanial had been battling his symptoms since he was in his early teens. After writing an article about Nathanial, Steve received a
cello from a newspaper prescriber. The elderly woman asked Steve to give Nathaniel the instrument in hopes he would play it more often than she
could. Throughout the movie, Steve provided Nathanial places to live and opportunities for him to partake in musical events. After an incident at a
recital, Nathaniel lost his temper and threatened to kill Steve. Steve did not know what more he can do besides inviting Nathanial's sister, Mary, to
come speak with him. After a brief conversation between Mary and Nathanial, Nathanial apologized to Steve for the unkind words and threats he made
towards him. At the end, the movie stated Nathanial is still a current resident of an organization called Lamp but continues to refuse medical treatment
(Foster & Krasnoff, 2009).

schizophrenia face in a society where mental illness is often met with negative stigma. From finding sufficient treatment to maintaining an independent
lifestyle, individuals with schizophrenia are put under a great deal of pressure to meet social norms despite the sometimes debilitating and emotionally
draining effects of their disease. A Beautiful Mind and The Soloist highlight these struggles, and because they are both based on true–stories, they are
able to depict the realities of what living with a mental illness is like in a relatively realistic manner. A Beautiful Mind follows

The Soloist Movie Analysis
The movie The Soloist was released in 2009 and is based on a true story. This movie is about two entirely different people who crosses pathways
and ends up helping each other. Steve Lopez is a journalist with the L.A Times. Lopez is not truly happy with his life at this moment. He is at a
crossroad in his career and has recently went through a divorce to his wife who is now his boss.
On the other hand, we have Nathaniel Ayers. Nathaniel is a homeless schizophrenic man who has a strangely amazing talent for the music and
arts. When Lopez hears a violin being played it leads him to Ayers where they introduce themselves. Lopez soon realizes that Ayers may be
schizophrenic, but he is a very brilliant man. Ayers discloses that he once attended Julliard and was on his way to becoming famous. Lopez feels
that he could get Ayers some help and back into the world of music and they both set off on adventure. Lopez realizes that he is not only helping
Ayers, but in return Ayers is helping him become a better person. In an article published by NPR (2009), Lopez and Ayers friendship is described as "a
two–way street" and Lopez states "it's not just me doing for him" (pg. 1) Throughout their quest, Lopez and Ayers form a friendship that help Lopez
find a passion for journalism again and Ayers got the proper treatment he needed. Nathaniel Ayers, a main character in this movie is said be
schizophrenic, a very complex mental disorder. In an article by Walker and Tessner (2008), it is said that "there was a shift from conceptualizations o
schizophrenia as a disorder of the mind with primarily psychosocial causes, to the widespread acceptance of the notion that brain abnormalities were
involved" (p.30).
However, by just looking at Ayers, it is not possible to tell that he is schizophrenic, he just looks like a regular homeless man. When Steve Lopez first
approaches Nathaniel he rambles on o0ver these ideas he has in his head, which can be described as disordered thinking. He seemed to try to put
together these elaborate ideas that comes from misperceptions of things he is experienced. This is what makes it hard for him to communicate with
others. His thoughts are not comprehensive to other when he speaks.
