2. As we celebrate Engineer's Day, let
us not only honour the great
engineers of the past but also look to
the future with anticipation. The
road ahead is filled with challenges
and opportunities, and it's the
engineers of today and tomorrow
who will continue to shape the
world.

4. Defining Engineering
Engineering is that profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and
natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with
judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces
of nature for the benefit of mankind. (ABET, 1992)
Engineering is the professional art of applying science to the optimum
conversion of the resources of nature to the uses of humankind.
(Encyclopaedia Britannica)
5. Engineers
• Engineers don’t sit back and watch – they
make things happen. Using innovation,
creativity and a wealth of knowledge,
engineers are impacting the world unlike
any other.
6. The Wheel: The First
Engineering Marvel The
story of Engineering begins
thousands of years ago, in a
world without roads, cars,
or machines. It starts with a
simple yet revolutionary
invention – the wheel.
7. The Industrial Revolution:
Steam Power and Beyond
Fast forward to the 18th
century, and we find ourselves
amidst the Industrial Revolution.
Steam engines, conceived by
brilliant minds like James Watt,
powered factories and
locomotives, dramatically
changing the way we
manufactured goods and
travelled. It was a time of
unprecedented growth and
transformation.
8. In the early 20th century, another innovation would take
the world by storm. Henry Ford's assembly line
revolutionized the manufacturing of automobiles, making
cars accessible to the masses. It was a testament to the
power of innovation and engineering to reshape our lives.

9. The mid-20th century brought us
the Space Race, where engineers
pushed the boundaries of human
achievement by sending humans to
space and landing on the moon. The
development of the microchip and
the birth of the digital age soon
followed, paving the way for the
modern computing revolution.

2nd Industrial Revolution – Mass Production
3rd Industrial Revolution – The Digital Age
4th Industrial Revolution - The Smart Factory
12. Engineers have worked relentlessly to harness
the immense potential of the Tungabhadra
River, converting its hydraulic energy into
electrical power.
This project not only
illuminated homes but
also powered
industries, contributing
significantly to the
region's development.
It stands as a testament
to the transformative
power of engineering in
India.
13. And now, we stand on the brink of yet another
engineering marvel: Autonomous Vehicles. Today,
self-driving cars are no longer science fiction but a
reality, thanks to engineers who have harnessed
the power of artificial intelligence, sensor
technology, and precise algorithms. Anecdotes of
autonomous vehicles rescuing lives in emergency
situations or providing mobility to those who
couldn't drive themselves showcase the
transformative potential of this innovation.

The Future Unfolds
14. "Engineering is all around us, so people
often take it for granted, like air and water.
Ask yourself, what do I touch that is not
engineered?"
(Herbert Clark Hoover, Engineer & President
of the US from 1929-1932)
"Scientist discovers that which exists. An
engineer creates that which never was"
Theodore von Karman (1881- 1963)
