9/9/15 BELL RINGER
The mayor of Collierville has asked
you to write a set of laws for the town.
These laws will be the only laws that
ALL citizens must follow. Make a list
of laws you will create.
I can analyze and explain the
significance of the Qur’an and and
Sunnah for Muslim faith.
7.6 Explain the significance of the Qur’an
and the Sunnah as the primary sources
of Islamic beliefs, practice, and law and
their influence in Muslims’ daily life.
“Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and free
the (prisoner) of he be (wrongly in prison)”.
Discuss as a GROUP:
1. What would a person say if they held
this belief?
2. What actions would a person take if they
held this belief?
What do Muslims believe?
The basic belief of Islam is that there is only one God, whose name in the
Arabic language is Allah, and who is the sole and sovereign ruler of the
universe.
Muslims have 6 main beliefs:
1. Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
2. Belief in angels.
3. Belief in the holy books.
4. Belief in the Prophets (special messengers).
For example: Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isa
(Jesus).
Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.
5. Belief in the Day of Judgement (the day when the life of every human being
will be assessed to decide whether they go to heaven or hell).
6. Belief in Predestination (that Allah has already decided what will happen.
Muslims believe that this doesn't stop human beings making free choices).
What is the holy book of Islam called?
The Muslim scripture is the Holy Qur'an. Muslims believe it is
'the word of God'. Muslim beliefs and practices are rooted in the
Qur'an.
Muslims treat the Qur'an with great respect because they
believe that the Qur'an is from Allah, and every word and every
letter is sacred. It is usually placed on a special wooden stand to
be read.
Muslims regard the Qur'an as the unaltered word of God.
Read pages 358-361 and answer these questions:
1. What is the Qur'an?
2. What is the Sunnah?
3. What are some ways the Qur’an and Sunnah are
practiced by Muslims?
4. What is a jihad?
5. Think of an example of how Qur’an and Sunnah
are applied to a Muslim’s everyday life.
• CREATE A POSTER THAT DESCRIBES
THE RELIGION ISLAM
• THE POSTER SHOULD TALK ABOUT
WHAT MUSLIMS BELIEVE, DESCRIBE
THE HOLY BOOK, AND THE GENERAL
BELEIFS.
