2. Objectives:
✦ To share the significance and the
impact of reading to the secondary
students
✦ To show a data on the rank level of
Filipino students in terms of
reading comprehension
✦ To show some ways in order to
assess the reading difficulty of
students

3. I. The significance
and impact of reading
to secondary students
Regular reading improves brain
connectivity, increase vocabulary and
comprehension, empowers you to
empathize with other people.
Reading is great fun for many
people, but it also has many benefits for
your mental health in the form of
thinking and understanding. (R. Stanborough,
2019)
4. By concentrating on the words and
the storyline, it stimulates your brain and
cognitive functions. This particular
stimulation can help sharpen your mind,
especially the part of the brain that is
responsible for concentration and critical
analysis. (R. Stanborough, 2019)
Reading sharpens this part of the
brain much like you would sharpen a knife.
This sharpening of the mind will eventually
heighten your focus when concentrating on
something important. (R. Stanborough, 2019)

guiding tool for instruction
Reading Rockets, WETA Public Broadcasting (2021)
PURPOSE:
1. To provide teachers with
information on what skills
students have and not
mastered
2. To monitor students progress
3. To guide teacher instruction
4. To demonstrate the
effectiveness of instruction
5. To provide teachers with
information on how
instruction can be improved.
