The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is the meeting place of the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom—the House of Lords and the House of Commons. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the heart of the London borough of the City of Westminster, close to the historic Westminster Abbey and the government buildings of Whitehall and Downing Street. The name may refer to either of two structures: the Old Palace, a medieval building complex most of which was destroyed in 1834, and its replacement New Palace that stands today; it has retained its original style and status as a royal residence for ceremonial purposes

The Palace of Versailles is the most well known example of European Palace. The palace is also a statement of the wealth and power of an absolute monarch. Since then the design of the palace had been copied all over the world.
It was constructed during the reign of Louis XIV, when the power of the absolute French monarch was at its zenith. Louis XIV saw the palace as a setting to propagate his own personality cult. It was here at Versailles, Louis XIV daily theatrical rituals were on show to nobility – routines like the king rises, the king retirement at night, even the queen giving birth to the royal babies are opened to the public eyes.
Today, the French is keen to shake off this symbol of absolute monarchy but to portrait the palace as achievements of French culture, of French taste and as a place where great international diplomacy is conducted. It was here the Treaty of Versailles was sign, putting an end to the First World War.

Hermitage today is known for its opulence architecture and its collection of arts. The name, Hermitage means “a place of solitude” in French. It is an iconic building, representing the Imperial Tsarist Russia. Today, it is the largest museum in the world with over 3 million pieces of arts in its possession.

It is a briefest of all introduction to such a magnificent building. The only missing important room not included is the Tsar Nicholas Hall, which is not open to visitors to the museum. Along the river valley of Loire, south of Paris was a favourite region for the French nobility to build their chateaux. There are three royal chateaux in the valley - Chambord, Blois and Amboise. Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years here amongst these chateaux. Chenonceau chateau is one of the prettiest and had a female touch to it. If this is the case then it counterpart is Chambord, a the male chateau. It was built as a hunting lodge and many of its features were derived from traditional fortifications.
In 1515, the young Francis I of France came to the throne. It was under him France was united and strong. It was also the time French Absolute Monarchy began to appear. Chambord is very much his making. The emblems of Francis I were everywhere. Chambord - A French Renaissance Chateau
Along the river valley of Loire, south of Paris was a favourite region for the French nobility to build their chateaux. There are three royal chateaux in the valley - Chambord, Blois and Amboise. Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years here amongst these chateaux. Chenonceau chateau is one of the prettiest and had a female touch to it. If this is the case then it counterpart is Chambord, a the male chateau. It was built as a hunting lodge and many of its features were derived from traditional fortifications.
In 1515, the young Francis I of France came to the throne. It was under him France was united and strong. It was also the time French Absolute Monarchy began to appear. Chambord is very much his making. The emblems of Francis I were everywhere. It is also a French Renaissance building, incorporating Italian architecture elements like loggias, terrace, pilasters and horizontal mouldings decorating the facades. It is also French too with its massive towers, donjon and very high and steep roofs. Its roof it like a chessboard of towers and also like as a skyline of skyscrapers.
Today around the chateau is a large wildlife park with rich and varied wild life, a sanctuary for large animals. It is also an Unesco Heritage Site.

Part of the Chateau today is devoted to the Napoleon Museum. It was here that Napoleon abdicated the throne on 5 April 1814 and made his famous farewell speech to the soldiers of the Old Guard, who followed him in his military campaigns.
Versaille
The Palace of Versailles and its expansive gardens cover an area of 10 square miles. The meticulously designed gardens feature hundreds of fountains and an intricate system of canals. Within the palace grounds are two smaller palaces, the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon, as well as Marie Antoinette's Village. The interior of the palace contains ornate rooms such as the famous Hall of Mirrors, bedrooms, and galleries decorated with paintings.
