In A Search for What Makes Sense/Finding Faith, I outlined four stages of faith development. I tried to synthesize the major theorists on moral, intellectual, and faith development into a simple but comprehensive schema: simplicity, complexity, perplexity, and humility/harmony. These are the powerpoints to the talks I give on the subject. Someday I'd like to put this presentation into a dvd format for group use. We'll see....
Drawing on the work of Hahrie Han, Dan Pink, Clay Shirky, Jim Coe and myself, this presentation looks to help campaigners understand motivation in the context of organising people to take action around social/environmental aims.

“The Nature of Saving FAITH” (2)— (Romans 3:19-5:5) In Romans 4 Paul is contrasting two opposing SYSTEMS, “FAITH & WORKS.” The “works” system cannot save a sinner because it demands perfection - and no amount of work can undo the sinners sin. The “Faith” system on the other hand implements forgiveness through Jesus thus providing justification on the grounds of God’s grace. “Saved Like Noah" - [Baptism also now saves us … 1 Peter 3:18-22] - Many strive to explain the apostle Peter’s words in the above text in ways that negate that which he affirms. This study is a detailed examination of this text — 1) what is meant by the type / antitype construction of verses 20 and 21? — 2) What does Peter mean when he says, “baptism also now saves us?” — 3) What is the meaning of the parenthetical phrase "(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God)? - I realize many may disagree with the conclusions we have reached, but I pray that all will prayerfully and sincerely consider this study and accept that which is the truth. In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

31. Hebrews 11:1–7 (NKJV)
1
Now faith is the substance of
things hoped for, the evidence of
things not seen. 2
For by it the
elders obtained a good testimony.
3
By faith we understand that the
worlds were framed by the word
of God, so that the things which
are seen were not made of things
which are visible.
32. Hebrews 11:1–7 (NKJV)
4
By faith Abel offered to God a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain, through
which he obtained witness that he was
righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and
through it he being dead still speaks. 5
By faith Enoch was taken away so that
he did not see death, “and was not
found, because God had taken him”;
for before he was taken he had this
testimony, that he pleased God.
33. Hebrews 11:1–7 (NKJV)
6
But without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God
must believe that He is, and that He is a
rewarder of those who diligently seek
Him. 7
By faith Noah, being divinely
warned of things not yet seen, moved
with godly fear, prepared an ark for the
saving of his household, by which he
condemned the world and became heir
of the righteousness which is according
to faith.
34. “We are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone.”
Salvation by the Installment Plan?
by Phil Congdon
Many Bible teachers are fond of a saying that goes like this: "You are saved by faith alone, but the faith that
saves is never alone." Doesn't that sound neat? It states a fundamental truth--that we are saved by faith alone--
then turns around and states that while it is faith alone that saves us, that faith is never alone. This saying is
used to teach the idea that if a person puts their faith in Jesus Christ, but doesn't live a right kind of life, they
aren't saved. But wait a minute; let's plug in our logical minds for a minute and see if this is really neat-or
nonsense.
The phrase "You are saved by faith alone" is obviously true. Scripture repeatedly tells us that it is faith alone
without works which saves (e.g., Eph. 2:8-9). Buy what does the second phrase say? Incredibly it says exactly
the opposite. We can paraphrase the saying this way: "Faith [in Christ] alone saves you, but if your faith [in
Christ] is alone, it doesn't save you." This kind of illogical thinking allows some theologians to turn the truth
of the gospel on its head and make salvation a result of faith plus good works.
In response, these teachers state that they do not mean faith + works = salvation but rather faith = salvation
+ works. But the end result is the same. If I pay cash for a car and drive it home, it is no different than if I
were to drive it home and pay for it over the next few years. It doesn't matter when you pay--before or after
you take possession. If you ever have to do good works to be saved, salvation isn't free, it's something you
earn.
The Apostle Paul knew this. That's why he wrote, "To the one who does not work, but believes in Him who
justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness" (Rom. 4:5). — https://faithalone.org/magazine/
