The document discusses libraries and their importance from various perspectives. It provides over a dozen quotes from authors, journalists, and others emphasizing different roles libraries play such as being places of imagination, culture, education, and community. The quotes portray libraries as storyhouses, delivery rooms for ideas, and tent poles supporting communities. Melvil Dewey is quoted noting libraries should provide information, inspiration and recreation through any means, including new technologies.
These slides contain various sections in libraries and their functions including ICT devices that can be used to perform these functions in the 21st century.
Library is the heart of any educational institutions. Nowadays there are two basic form of library, one is traditional library and another is digital library. Traditional library is the library to collection the information in print form like books, journals etc. and digital library is the library to collection information with associated services, where the information is stored in digital format like text, video, audio etc. and accessible over a network. According to Bala and Sagar(2014, 369p.) “Library as an institution has played an important role in the progress of civilization. In the modern age the library users need accurate, current and pinpointed information, and there expectation also high”. Due to lack of time no body have time to visit a library and search catalogue cards. Most of the users prefer the digital resources because these can be used anytime and by everyone over the Internet.

We use classification each & every moment of the life by intentionally or unintentionally. Classification has always been the backbone of all Library operations and without it, library is definitely going to suffer in its recourse and to find a particular piece of information from unorganized heap of knowledge is almost impossible. The library classification is core instrument for organizing and retrieval of the documents stored in a library. At present era they are the navigation tools for locating and retrieving documents in more precisely and relevantly. The electronic versions of the DDC and UDC and other classification schemes make it possible to realize the potential of library classification to improve subject retrieval.

Making Your Library Epic: Creating Innovative Spaces for Student LearningDiana Rendina
School libraries are no longer the quiet dusty rooms where students sit at heavy wooden tables and read silently. We’re using modern technology and teaching strategies – now we need to update our spaces to match. In this session, attendees will get ideas and inspiration for transforming the physical space of their libraries to make them innovative, student-friendly learning environments. Learn how to apply educational design theory to renovate your library no matter what your budget is. Learn strategies for changing up your space that you can apply as soon as you get back.
We used to think of the user in the life of the library. Now we think of the library in the life of the user. As behaviors change in a network environment, we have seen growing interest in ethnographic and user-centered design approaches. This presentation introduces this topic. It also explores changes in how we manage collections as an illustration of this shift towards thinking of the library in the life of the user.
The Mozilla Hive Learning Network is a city-by-city model of bringing as many of the learning activities as possible together so all the varied groups (libraries, community centres, schools, hack/maker spaces, independent schools and instructors) know that the others exist and what they are doing, and so that learners can map their own pathways through it. Traditionally it has focused on digital learning and youth 12-18, but in the Vancouver branch we are trying to bridge the digital and physical worlds, and open to learners of all ages. This session will be about discussing how to best involve people in their own learning, bridge different groups, whether we can scale what are often very personal experiences so that learners world-wide can participate, and the very central role libraries are playing. In parallel to this, the Maker Foundation has been sponsoring Maker Education meet-ups, bringing librarians, educators, administrators, community centre organizers, makers, parents, and kids together to discuss how to get tools into kids hands to empower them to take charge of their own educations and engage with the world around them.

White Space Creativity - Generate Conference London 2014Denise Jacobs
In visual arts and graphic design, white space is fundamental to allowing a creation to exist, by creating delineation and focus. Similarly, in our lives, creativity often sprouts from the "white space" of time: the moments in our increasingly busy schedules between activities and thoughts that allow the subconscious to better absorb and connect information. Clearly, in order to be more creative, we need to open up this "in-between" space in our lives, but once we've done so, how can we best capitalize upon the brain's natural creative capacities? In this talk, we'll explore several counter-intuitive and potentially subversive methods for leveraging this "white space" to foment innovative thinking creative productivity.

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/03/02/un-telecommunications.html http://www.tgdaily.com/html_tmp/content-view-41586-113.html Two thirds of the world’s cell phone subscriptions are in developing nations, with the highest growth rate in Africa where a quarter of the population now has a mobile, a United Nations agency said on Friday. While just 1 in 50 Africans had a mobile in the year 2000, now 28 percent have a cellular subscription, according to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The world has more than three times more mobile cellular subscriptions than fixed telephone lines, and in some countries in Asia and Europe people have more than one contract each, pushing the mobile access rate above 100 percent.

he handprint to the right is a cave painting drawn 32,000 years ago and is the oldest portrait of man. On the walls of Chauvet Cave in southern France, the artist used the technology of his day, tinted charcoal dust blown through a straw, to create a simple, yet powerful icon of human-ness. This image captures the essence of human-centered computing. Much like the Paleolithic beings, we still use technology to relate to, understand and depict the world around us, still trying to say "I am here. I am human."
