“CONVERSATION WITH THE
LITTLE PRINCE”
writing contest
PURPOSE AND THEME:
 The “Conversation with the Little Prince” writing competition is organized on
the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Antoine de Saint Exupéry in
order to encourage the written expression and creativity of young people from
all over the world.
 The theme of the competition is that of a conversation between the participants
and the Little Prince during confinement.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION ARE TO:
 to promote a taste for language and literature among children, adolescents and
young adults under the age of twenty-five;
 to familiarise children, adolescents and young adults with creative writing ;
 to develop a taste for the work of Antoine de Saint Exupéry.
DEFINITION OF TERMS USED IN THE
REGULATION:
 Entry form: the form containing all the necessary information to validate
participation in the competition.
 Organizing committee: the organizing committee is made up of representatives of
each of the competition partners. Jury: six juries - one per language - are formed
and announced on the competition website.
 Laureates: the laureates of the competition are the participants whose texts are
selected by the juries. There are 6 laureates, selected from among the 60 finalist
texts.
 Accompanying dossier: the accompanying dossier for the competition is available
in English and in French. It can be freely consulted by participants and can be used
by teachers or cultural mediators to encourage participation in the competition.
The accompanying pack includes information on the theme of the competition and
suitable writing activities.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:
 The competition is open to all young people born after 1 January 1995.
 Participation in the competition is open, individual and free of charge. Participation is exclusively
digital and must be made on the competition website. By validating their participation, participants
agree to the publication of their text on the competition platform or in a collection of the texts of the
winners and 60 finalists. At their request, this participation can be made anonymously.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:
 All participants in the writing contest are invited to read this grant of rights form before
submitting their contribution. This form gives UNESCO permission to use the contributions
submitted - the written conversations and the illustrations - for the publication of a collection
of 60 finalist texts, in any form (printing, publication in digital format) that may be selected by
UNESCO, as well as for any other use for communication purposes. This form must be returned
duly completed and signed to
 the organisers by the participants pre-selected as finalists, or by their legal representative in
the case of minors. Specifically, only those participants pre-selected as finalists will be
informed in early December 2020 of the need to return the afore-mentioned form.

 The following information is required in order to participate in the competition
and must be entered on the competition website:
 Name
 First name
 Date of birth
 Nationality
 Country and city of residence
 Contact (your choice: postal address, telephone number, e-mail address)
 Title and text
REQUIRED INFORMATION:
 Text format: The text must not exceed 5000 characters (including spaces). The
works must be registered using the dedicated form. Each participant may submit
only one text in the framework of the competition.
 Language: Participation can be in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or
Spanish.
 Date: Participants in the competition send in their work between 29 June 2020
and 30 November 2020. The date of receipt of the works by the jury is
determined by the time and date information recorded by the mail server when
sending the work on the competition website.
METHODOLOGY:
 Entries to the competition will be judged on the basis of literary creativity,
originality of ideas, and relevance to the question posed (and explained in the
accompanying dossier) by the participants.
 All submitted texts are checked against plagiarism and incorrect citations (in any
quantity) of third party works using online services to verify the uniqueness of
the texts.
CALENDAR:
 29 June 2020: launch of the competition
 30 November 2020: end of the collection of texts
 24 January 2021: announcement of the winners
FINALISTS, LAUREATES
 Finalists In each language, 10 finalist texts are selected by the organizing
committee and presented to the jury.
 Laureates There are 6 laureates, one in each language. They are chosen by the
international jury.
PRIZES - THE CELEBRATION OF ALL THE
PARTICIPANTS
 All the participants will be celebrated on the occasion of International Day of
Education, 24 January 2021, as part of the “Learning Planet Festival”. From 22 to 24
January 2021, schools and other organizations (associations, writing workshops, etc.)
that participated in the competition will be invited to schedule local and/or online
readings of the texts written by their students and/or members.
 The 60 finalists and 6 laureates will be particularly honoured on International Day of
Education 2021 as part of the online celebration of this event (see Learning Planet
Festival) and, health conditions permitting, at the Festival to be held in Paris,
orchestrated in partnership with UNESCO.
PRIZES - THE PUBLICATION OF THE TEXTS OF
THE 60 FINALISTS:
 The texts in 6 languages of the 60 finalists will be published in the same digital
collection entitled “Conversations with The Little Prince”. This publication will be
relayed on the organizers' websites and social networks, which together are likely to
reach millions of potential readers around the world.
PRIZES - FOR THE 6 LAUREATES
 For the 6 laureates, an invitation to visit the World Expo in Dubai (2021-2022) :
 In addition to highlighting their conversations in the digital collection
“Conversations with The Little Prince” and on social networks, each laureate will be
invited to discover the next major World Expo, which will be held between October
2021 and April 2022 in Dubai.
 The detailed programme of this visit (dates, proposed activities, associated events)
will be unveiled at the official announcement of the competition results.

The little prince contest

  • 1. “CONVERSATION WITH THE LITTLE PRINCE” writing contest
  • 2. PURPOSE AND THEME:  The “Conversation with the Little Prince” writing competition is organized on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Antoine de Saint Exupéry in order to encourage the written expression and creativity of young people from all over the world.  The theme of the competition is that of a conversation between the participants and the Little Prince during confinement.
  • 3. OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION ARE TO:  to promote a taste for language and literature among children, adolescents and young adults under the age of twenty-five;  to familiarise children, adolescents and young adults with creative writing ;  to develop a taste for the work of Antoine de Saint Exupéry.
  • 4. DEFINITION OF TERMS USED IN THE REGULATION:  Entry form: the form containing all the necessary information to validate participation in the competition.  Organizing committee: the organizing committee is made up of representatives of each of the competition partners. Jury: six juries - one per language - are formed and announced on the competition website.  Laureates: the laureates of the competition are the participants whose texts are selected by the juries. There are 6 laureates, selected from among the 60 finalist texts.  Accompanying dossier: the accompanying dossier for the competition is available in English and in French. It can be freely consulted by participants and can be used by teachers or cultural mediators to encourage participation in the competition. The accompanying pack includes information on the theme of the competition and suitable writing activities.
  • 5. PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:  The competition is open to all young people born after 1 January 1995.  Participation in the competition is open, individual and free of charge. Participation is exclusively digital and must be made on the competition website. By validating their participation, participants agree to the publication of their text on the competition platform or in a collection of the texts of the winners and 60 finalists. At their request, this participation can be made anonymously.
  • 6. PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:  All participants in the writing contest are invited to read this grant of rights form before submitting their contribution. This form gives UNESCO permission to use the contributions submitted - the written conversations and the illustrations - for the publication of a collection of 60 finalist texts, in any form (printing, publication in digital format) that may be selected by UNESCO, as well as for any other use for communication purposes. This form must be returned duly completed and signed to  the organisers by the participants pre-selected as finalists, or by their legal representative in the case of minors. Specifically, only those participants pre-selected as finalists will be informed in early December 2020 of the need to return the afore-mentioned form.
  • 7. REQUIRED INFORMATION:  The following information is required in order to participate in the competition and must be entered on the competition website:  Name  First name  Date of birth  Nationality  Country and city of residence  Contact (your choice: postal address, telephone number, e-mail address)  Title and text
  • 8. REQUIRED INFORMATION:  Text format: The text must not exceed 5000 characters (including spaces). The works must be registered using the dedicated form. Each participant may submit only one text in the framework of the competition.  Language: Participation can be in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish.  Date: Participants in the competition send in their work between 29 June 2020 and 30 November 2020. The date of receipt of the works by the jury is determined by the time and date information recorded by the mail server when sending the work on the competition website.
  • 9. METHODOLOGY:  Entries to the competition will be judged on the basis of literary creativity, originality of ideas, and relevance to the question posed (and explained in the accompanying dossier) by the participants.  All submitted texts are checked against plagiarism and incorrect citations (in any quantity) of third party works using online services to verify the uniqueness of the texts.
  • 10. CALENDAR:  29 June 2020: launch of the competition  30 November 2020: end of the collection of texts  24 January 2021: announcement of the winners
  • 11. FINALISTS, LAUREATES  Finalists In each language, 10 finalist texts are selected by the organizing committee and presented to the jury.  Laureates There are 6 laureates, one in each language. They are chosen by the international jury.
  • 12. PRIZES - THE CELEBRATION OF ALL THE PARTICIPANTS  All the participants will be celebrated on the occasion of International Day of Education, 24 January 2021, as part of the “Learning Planet Festival”. From 22 to 24 January 2021, schools and other organizations (associations, writing workshops, etc.) that participated in the competition will be invited to schedule local and/or online readings of the texts written by their students and/or members.  The 60 finalists and 6 laureates will be particularly honoured on International Day of Education 2021 as part of the online celebration of this event (see Learning Planet Festival) and, health conditions permitting, at the Festival to be held in Paris, orchestrated in partnership with UNESCO.
  • 13. PRIZES - THE PUBLICATION OF THE TEXTS OF THE 60 FINALISTS:  The texts in 6 languages of the 60 finalists will be published in the same digital collection entitled “Conversations with The Little Prince”. This publication will be relayed on the organizers' websites and social networks, which together are likely to reach millions of potential readers around the world.

PRIZES - FOR THE 6 LAUREATES  For the 6 laureates, an invitation to visit the World Expo in Dubai (2021-2022) :  In addition to highlighting their conversations in the digital collection “Conversations with The Little Prince” and on social networks, each laureate will be invited to discover the next major World Expo, which will be held between October 2021 and April 2022 in Dubai.  The detailed programme of this visit (dates, proposed activities, associated events) will be unveiled at the official announcement of the competition results.
