The document discusses how various technologies were used to research, produce, and edit a documentary project. The group used the internet to research their topic and find archive footage, YouTube videos, and information on conventions. They created questionnaires in Word and analyzed results in Excel. They filmed interviews and vox pops with a DV camera and microphone mounted on a tripod. Still images were taken with a digital camera for the print advert and blog. Adobe Premiere was used to edit footage, adjust sound levels, and add graphics. Photoshop was used to select parts of images and add logos and graphics for the print advert.
Heartbleed bug explained in under 10 minutes.
Ever notice that address bars of some sites are green and they have written "https" instead of the regular "http"
The " S " means the site is secured with " SSL " encryption which abbreviates as " Secured Socket Layer "
Which to basically say is, the connection between you and the website is encrypted so that the bad guys can't access it.
In SSL you are securing a socket or a connection between you and the server. But maintaining that socket costs the server some resources.
A normal server can handle only a few sockets at a time, so the server looks for closed sockets whenever it can.
The servers have a time out and will terminate the socket if there isnt any activity for a while.
To combat this, web browsers send heartbeat requests to the server to tell the server that the connection is active.
This " heartbeat " is the heart of the " heartbleed " problem.
The heartbeats are a special data packets that can contain anything upto 64kb of data and the server would respond accordingly.
So if we send a kilobyte, server will return a kilobyte. if we send 64kb, server will return 64kb.
The issue comes when we send a kilobyte of data but tell the server that it's 64kb.
So, the server responds with our actual 1kb padded with 63kb of additional memory.
This extra 63kb memory could be anything. It could be just garbage or it could be usernames, passwords or other confidential information which is not supposed to leak.
This method can be repeated over and over until the user gets the information he could use.
This issue is with Open SSL which is an application that IMPLEMENTS SSL and not with the protocol itself.
The problem is with one component of this one application which isn't working as it should be.
But OpenSSL is so popular that a lot of websites run on it.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. The Internet The internet helped our group a lot as it helped us research the topic of our documentary, we also found most of our archive footage on www.youtube.com and most of the research researching biscuits on www.google.com , the internet also helped us get information on the topic of the documentary which we would then later use when recording our voiceover, while researching we could also find idea’s for our content for e.g. is a jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit?. We also had to find documentary’s to analyse and you tube and the internet is very helpful to help find documentary’s to watch. We also had to find codes and conventions of a radio advert and I found some good radio adverts on www.fivelive.com and this helped me to decide how my radio advert was going to be panned out. I also had to make a print advert and as the channel the documentary was been aired on was channel four we had to look at how channel four made print adverts and try and make our print advert like it was from channel four I found print adverts made from channel four at www.channelfour.com. We then had to find print adverts by looking for tv shows and we took the conventions from them and use them when making our own. So a lot of the conventions we used where found when researching on the internet. I also used the internet to find cut away shots from Google and you tube and archive footage.
2. Microsoft Word and Excel Microsoft word has also helped me a lot in my work. As I used it for several of the tasks that had to be do. We had to create a questionnaire to gather statistics for our documentary and we used word to write up our questionnaire which was then handed out to thirty people. We used Microsoft excel to produce bar charts for the results of our questionnaire which where then put on to our blog before that we put the graphs into word and wrote a small summary of the question and the answers would be useful below it. Microsoft word was also helpful when we was writing our voiceover script and with some of the sections on my blog I found it easier To make them first in word and then Copy the work into my blog after I Had finished it. We also used word When we was writing our radio Advert script so overall word was a Very helpful source while I was doing My work. I would also use it to help me in Constructing mise-en-scene for interviews As I would create a range of image that Related to the interview on word and then Put them in the background of the Interview.
3. Microsoft excel For the second question on my questionnaire I asked whether they where male or female. Then I had to make a graph in Microsoft excel to show the results of the answers this is how I made the graph: You put the possible answers in the first column and each answer in a different column. You then put the answers beside the male or female in the next column. You then highlight all your work. When it is highlighted you go on insert column and select the kind of chart you would like, you can also select different type of chart. You click on the chart you would like and then it appears and you save it and insert it into your blog.
4. Dv Camera The Dv camera was one of the most useful pieces on technology when it came to filming all of my work as I used this while I filmed everything. I filmed vox pop’s and I used the camera while filming these, I also used the camera while I was filming the interviews that I did. Some of the cut away shots where also filmed by the camera and the rest where found on the internet . The camera was also used when we where filming our target audience interviews which where then put on to our blog. We also used the camera when we where filming for question three of our evaluation where we filmed somebody watching our documentary and then commenting on the documentary afterwards talking about the qualities about our documentary, print advert and radio advert. We also used the camera to film most of our opening titles. We recorded the voiceover and part of the radio advert on the camera. Then we would cut out the visual part of this and just use the sound but in the end the voiceover and the radio advert was too quiet so we decided to re-record the voiceover and part of the radio advert in the radio studio. The camera was also used for the refilming that we had to do in our documentary.
5. Dv camera There is a button on this side which allows you to zoom in and out. This is the microphone This is where you can fast forward or rewind the tape if you wanted to watch over your work. At the back is where the microphone can be placed. This is where you put the tape into camera.
6. Tripod and microphone The tripod was a very useful piece of equipment when it came to filming and it held the camera in a still position which made the overall filming look of a better quality. We used the tripod when we was filming interviews vox pop’s and cut away shots. It allowed us to move the camera from side to side and up and down in a smooth way so it made the filming of a better quality. The microphone was also used and it helped the sound of our documentary and made it clearer and easier to hear. We used the microphone in most of our filming including interviews and vox pop’s so it was easier to hear what the interviewees saying. The tripod and the microphone helped the overall quality of the sound and camera work. We also used the tripod and the microphone when we was refilming vox pop’s and interviews.
7. Tripod Here is where we can higher or lower the position of the camera so it is in a suitable position. Here is where the camera is placed and screwed on to be secure. Here is where you can turn the camera from side to side to get the camera in a suitable position. Here is where you can change the length of the tripod.
8. Digital stills camera Another piece of technology that we used was the digital camera. Which we used to take still image’s for several tasks. One of the tasks that we did where the camera was helpful was making the print advert as we had to take a still image which we would then edit into our print advert in Photoshop. To the right are the main images that We thought would be best for our print Advert and these images where taken On the digital camera. And below is the Final print advert which was made through the camera. We also used the digital camera when we had to take Pictures of our group filming and working we taken Photo’s on the camera from when we was filming and Editing the documentary and these pictures where then Added to the blog. The camera was also used to take still Images for the opening titles and a small part at the end Of the docmentary.
9. Adobe premiere I think adobe premiere was the most useful piece of technology when making our documentary and radio advert. This was used while we was editing the production, we used it to put the documentary together, some of the things we did while using this programme is basic cutting as we would cut parts out of the filming that created jump cuts and made the documentary of a poor quality. We also used adobe premiere to adjust the sound levels in our documentary and our radio advert I thought that adjusting the sound levels was a very simple thing to do. We used premiere when it came to arranging the picture that would go onto the blue screen I thought was a more complex task to do and was a little more complicated. The graphics where also done on premiere I thought this was a simple task to do.
11. Blue screen effect Firstly we had to select the part of the film that we wanted. Then we had to drag it on to the part of the documentary that we wanted. We then had to go into effects and choose the blue screen effect and drag it on to the clip.
12. Blue screen effect After dragging it on to the clip it should darken and then drag the image on top of the clip Drag the image on to here And make it the same length As the clip with the blue Screen. Then make the image bigger over the screen and select the effect controls and there you will see a blue key selection and by changing the opacity the image will go behind the person.
13. Premiere Pro This is where you can edit out parts of the video before placing them into the film you can do this by pressing I when you want the clip to begin and O when you want the clip or the audio to begin. This is where the video clip selected will appear. This is where after capturing the chosen video clips will be with there selected names and you drag them onto the screen beside it to edit them and drag them below to add them to your film. This is where you drag your sound and video clips. You choose where to place them in your film and can choose how the speed of the clip is which was useful when editing my documentary. You have to capture the video clip before editing it and if you want to do this press F5 and the capturing tool will appear.
14. Adobe Photoshop Adobe Photoshop was used when it came to constructing the print advert. We had an image that we had taken through the digital camera and we would then upload it to Photoshop and we would use the quick selection tool to select the part of the photo that we wanted to use on the main print advert. We would then copy this into a new document and I changed the hue and the saturation to make the image look more appealing. We then had to think about the graphics and the channel four logo and we had to think about the codes and conventions of a real channel four print advert. So we placed the channel four logo on to the right side of the screen in the middle as we noticed that this was what channel four print advert said. We also put black graphics over a white background. Then we put the graphics in the left bottom side of the image.
15. Adobe Photoshop You select image to access hue/saturation This is where the quick selection tool is and this is what I used to select the part of the photo that I wanted to use in the final print advert.
17. Radio Studio The radio studio Was very useful when it came to recording our voice over and our radio advert . We first recorded it using the camera and the quality of the sound was not very good and it was also very quiet so we decided to re record it in the radio studio that college provides us. We wrote a script using Microsoft word. We used the same person for the radio advert and the voiceover.
18. Mobile phone Our mobile phones has a camera and a video recorder on it so this was useful when we did not have our digital camera and wanted to take a photo of the filming process we could have also used the video camera on the mobile phone when we was recording target audience interviews and audience feedback for our evaluation.
19. Evaluation When I was doing my evaluation PowerPoint was useful when I was writing question four. Then I used a camera to record myself speaking for a question, The internet was also useful as I was able to take images from the internet for my evaluation and I would upload my evaluation to blogger.
