This document discusses how vernacular architecture can be used as an intangible resource to develop a green and circular economy through sustainable and responsible tourism. It introduces how typical small villages in Mediterranean areas represent the fragility of vernacular architecture that can be protected. New scenarios are presented that combine environmental and social innovation through approaches like handcraft marketing and albergo diffuso to promote tourism while maintaining architectural traditions. Both traditional and new technologies are discussed for improving urban and environmental quality.
