Lifestyle blogging has become an established part of the Malaysian internet, and these ‘microcelebrities’ (Senft 2012) develop parasocial relations through the interactive affordances of social media, leveraging authenticity through a carefully managed exhibition of aspects of their lives and activities. As their audience changes in both quantity and quality, the bloggers’ perceptions of their audience develops, and they also adjust their performance according to their own changing life circumstances – such as graduating from university or changing jobs. When bloggers become parents, many of them are approached by advertisers keen to promote child- or parent centred consumer goods and services, meaning that their children become additional resources to leverage both audience and income.
This paper presents research that focuses on the impact that parenthood makes upon the lifestyle bloggers. It asks how parents negotiate their microcelebrity status, and the need to share ostensibly authentic portrayals of their life, with the challenges of parenthood. It also explores the impact of the expansion of outlets in a variety of social network sites.
This research follows up on a long-term participant observation of personal and lifestyle bloggers conducted from 2007-2009. Based on an inductive approach, it uses a combination of textual analysis and interviews to revisit microcelebrities who have become parents, and also expands the sample to other microcelebrities who are parents. It explores how they include their children and/or their parenting experiences into their online presence, and negotiate the attendant ethical and experiential challenges.
Why types of content engages? Inspires? Spreads? Creating spreadable content is a great and cost effective way for nonprofits to reach more people for their cause.

Institutional Voice: What Are We Trying to Say? #MCN2016Stephen Boyd
The first social media platforms were designed for individuals to communicate with other individuals, before businesses and organizations got involved. Now that every platform contains millions of competing voices, ranging from our grandmothers to multi-national corporations, how do museums bridge the gap between representing themselves as exciting, diverse institutions and interacting with audiences on a personal level? How can we talk to people in useful ways without trying to shout louder than everyone else? The answer is by creating a unique and effective institutional voice. But is this voice meant to be friendly, irreverent, hilarious, inviting, educational—or all of this at once? Should we try to teach people or make friends? Can we do both? Short answer: yes! But then how do we navigate sharing high-level curatorial writing, marketing and promotional posts, community-oriented posts that engage our local audiences, and participating in cross-museum campaigns, while also factoring in administrative requests to “be funny” and “go viral”? Will trying to do all of this at once make us seem dangerously unhinged? Just as museums are (and must be) many things to many people, all different types of content are related, regardless of what voice is used, because all voices represent the institution. I will explore the concept of institutional voice as a multitude of related voices and examine if it’s possible (or desirable) to maintain consistency across platforms when multiple people manage social accounts. I’ll also explore the relationship between digital institutional voice and the voice represented in signage and curatorial labels. Much of our energy is spent trying to get people in the museums doors, but how does digital institutional voice carry over when they get there? Like a bad Tinder date, is there a danger of museums not living up to the promise of their online personas?
As the social and digital media landscape gets increasingly competitive, it’s important to brand yourself by clearly conveying your businesses focus, credibility and unique contributions. You must constantly be creative with how are you going to set your self a part from the rest. This topic will identify ways to identify your brand personality as well as develop a plan of action to build and master your brand.
