- 2. THE FIRST COUNTERATTACK The Russian attack • The Russian counterattack at Stalingrad in November 1942, the Red Army had slowly pushed the German army eastward out of Russia.
- 4. NUREMBERG TRIALS Two years before WWII ended, the Allied governments of the U.S, the Soviet Union, and Britain declared that they will put their enemies on trial for war crimes. Twelve trials, involving over a hundred defendants and several different courts occurred in Nuremburg from 1945 to 1949. The first trial was focused on the twenty one Nazi criminals.
- 5. NUREMBERG TRIALS The court was named the International Military Tribunal. It consisted of one primary and one alternate judge from each country. The adversarial system was used for the trial. 18 defendants were convicted on one or more counts and three were found not guilty.
- 6. STATE OF ISRAEL Israel and Germany was on very thin ice with each other. Israel was going through an economic crisis and their was a lack in their foreign currency. In 1951, Israeli authorities made a claim to the four powers occupying post-war Germany regarding compensation and reimbursement. They also stated that six million dollars of their property was destroyed by the Nazis
- 7. ISERAL 700,000 Jews emigrated to Israel between 1948 and 1951. The holocaust survivors was welcomed to the Jewish homeland. During this time, there was an Eichman Trial brought to public about the positive experience of solidarity, camaraderie, and the strength of life forces in the ghetto in the face of death. In the sharing of grief and anger, those who had not personally known the Holocaust became aware of the historical fact.
