The Great Debaters
(Reflection Paper)
The Great Debaters is one of the great inspirational movies that I’ve watched.
It is an inspirational movie based on the true story of the Debate team consisting of
four students and their professor from Wiley College, in Marshall, Texas.
Racism is one of the main points of view in the movie which is until now; some
of the people experienced it every day especially for those black Africans or
Americans. Eventually, when I’ve watched neither movies nor dramas, obviously that
the antagonists are the ones with have dark skin but the protagonist is not.
The movie was really educational for the viewers because it has different
moral lessons on it. I really appreciate those Debaters because they will fight for
their rights in order for them to feel freedom, justice and equality in white Americans.
Determination, education, action, hope and other positive things that the black
African or Americans believe in themselves to stop discrimination to them no matter
what is the color of their skin, origin of their birth, language they speak, or their
occupational role in the society.
The Movie also is not really about how does the team defeat the National
Champions but it’s all about respect, love, and unity of every members, coaches,
and it’s school to establish peace and approach them equally.
The Great Debaters is perfect to watch for those white Americans, even if for
those who have different color of skin in order for them to realize that approaching
people equally and respectfully didn’t lies on their color of skin, origin of their birth,
language their speak, or their occupational role in the society.
