 Test can be defined as a method of measuring a person’s ability, knowledge, or
performance in a given domain. ( Brown:2004)
 Method means instrument : a set of techniques, procedure or items that requires
performance on the part of test –taker. For example : Multiple choice questions with
prescribe correct answer, oral interview based on question scripts. And etc.
 Test measures an individual’s ability, knowledge and performance. So, Testers should
understand who the test takers are ( Their experience, previous background knowledge)
 Test also measures Performance. Most language tests measure one’s ability to perform
language. Example: How to speak, to write, to read and to listen.
 Test measures a given domain. Test also measure specific area and it also measures
general competence in all skills for example : Proficiency test:
 Well constructed test defines as an instrument that provides an accurate measure of the
test taker’s ability within particular domain
 testing can be defined as the process of constructing devices to reinforce learning
and motivate students. it also as a means of assessing students’ performance in the
language.
 Assessment can be defined as an ongoing process that encompasses a much wider
domain. (Ex: student responds question, gives comments or tries out a new word
=assessment of student’s performance)
 Teaching, testing and assessment are related each other. In teaching, there are
assessment and test as set of measuring of learning objective.
