NURTURING
FAMILY TIES
MY INNER
CIRCLE
The journey to personalitydevelopment does not only
take account the self as a growing individual and charting a
career to establish full independence and success in life. Your
growth and personal effectiveness have to manifest in your
relationships.
The Family is the foremost unit that gave you the first experience of
the world. Individuals were born dependent on the love and care of
the people around you.
There is a general notion that adolescence is a stormy period of life
brought about by many changes and adjustment going on in your
life that can sometimes result in conflict. The family is not
exempted from these adjustment, which are often disquieting
parent- child relationships in contrast to the time when the child
used to depend a lot his/her parents. Both parents and child along
with the other members of the family, adjust to the developing roles
and expectations.
Relationship with family is important your
family is (or should be) your primary source
of security and support. No matter how the
world turns out to be, the family is home to
you. In reality in life that a relationship
does not always go smoothly.

The Family
The Family is the basic unity of the society. Each
family is unique as a result of bleeding of factors that
influence the dynamics of behaviours and interaction
among family members in and outside of their home.
The family serves important function that are
integral to the development of

through years.
Functions
Economic
Provision
Caring
for children includes taking
care of their needs over and
above the basics:
food, shelter, and clothing.
Love
“Family is where life begins
and where love
never ends” Love holds
the greatest importance
in the family. It is what
is
most needed, the best gift.
Socialization
The family provides
immediate opportunities for
the children to grow through
the interactions an individual
experiences with
the members of the family.
Procreation
The
family is an institute
recognized to perform the
duty to procreate, to have
children. Along with it is the
duty of the parents to
provide other life-giving
and loving ways of raising
them.
Sense of Security family offers a stable companionship – a feeling that you are not alone
in this world.
Structures
Blended Family
This setup consist of a
couple wherein one or
both of them have children
from a previous marriage or
relationship.
In many
instances, it happens
when
separation, annulment/divorce,
or death of spouse
eventually leads to remarriage.
Childless Family
– There are family situations
when couples do
not have children either by
choice or due to certain
circumstances.
Couples,
aside from their work, take
up special activities like
sports, get involved in
certain advocacies, or may
take care of a pet which they
include as a part of
family.
Nuclear Family
A
traditional type of family.
Two parents and their
children are living together
as family is an example.
Extended
Family
aside from the two parents
and their children,
the family is joined by
relatives who live them, like
grandparents, cousins or
aunties/uncles. They
generally share common
goals at home.
Family with
Working Parents
“Only the father working for
the family” and
mother tending the home and
children, both parents now
work to support the
family.
Single- Parent
Family
This
type of family refers to the
setup in which either the
mother or father alone
takes the responsibility of
caring for child or children. In
case of separation/ divorce of
parents, children are usually
left either one
of the
parents.
Other Family
Setup/
Frameworks
A family structure evolves
through time, we also
find another kind of setup.
There are now same-sex
partners who raise a child.
Either that child is would have
two mommies or two daddies
then.
Whatever the
setup, they strive to function
as a family.
FAMILY
EXPERIENCE
S
How you were cared for by
your family makes a
significant mark in your
development. It affects how
you function, behave, and
relate with other people.
Attachments that date back to
childhood (which you may not
remember at an instant) are
important experiences that
influence your ability to trust
and achieve a high level of
security with people.
Authoritarian
This is characterized by rigid
and/or demanding parent
style.
Parents are very strict. They
expect their children to follow
them without question. They
do not tolerate misbehavior
and do not hesitate to apply
punishment to control
behavior.
Permissive
Opposite of authoritarian is a
permissive kind of parenting.
Parents of this nature are very
giving to the point of spoiling
their children. They tend to be
warm and loving. They have
few expectations and minimal
limitations. They allow their
children to be part in making
decisions in the family.
Authoritative
This kind of parenting is
considered balanced. Parents
are authority figures who set
clear expectations from their
children.
They set reasonable
limitations, yet they also give
them room for
independence, provide them
emotional support, and
respect their point of view.
They likewise empower their
child to exercise decision-
making.
Child rearing patterns
Introduced by: Diana Baumrind
Neglectful
Neglectful parents are not
involved in child-rearing. They
may provide for the child's
needs, but are emotionally
detached, unsupportive of
their children, inconsistent, or
unpredictable.
03
Challenges and
Turning Points
There are certain events that create a huge
impact on the family. It may change the status,
dynamics or finances that affect family life.
Some of these are separation/divorce,
traumatic events, stresses, death, and violence
or abuse.
Genogram
A genogram is a visual representation of
a family that show more details or gives
more information regarding
relationships and patterns within the
family. This was developed and
popularized by Monica McGoldrick and
Randy Gerson in mid-1980s who used
them in therapeutic work. The
genogram is used to source information
that aids in understanding patterns,
practices, dynamics, behaviors or family
history that possibly affect certain

NURTURING FAMILY RELATIONS
Love
the family should be built
on love. As
everybody loves and needs to
be loved, the family should
be the one to show it.
Love does not grow on its
own you have to do it.
Commitment
As it takes effort to do all
those things, commit
yourself to doing what is
good, healthy, and nurturing
for your family.
Time
make time for your family.
Spend quality time with them
and fill it with good
moments. Do it often. Family
memories are made with
time spent doing activities
together.
Relationships needs work

Importance of feedback
-Through socialization, skills, talents, ability to cooperate, emotions,
interactions with others, and leadership will be manifested, this opens up to
the opportunity of receiving feedback.
-With feedback, you learn things about yourself that you may want or
need to develop to become a better person
-Philanthropist, Bill Gates, stated that "we all need people who will
give us feedback. That is how we improve.
Giving
Feedback
1.Be Clear with you intentions. - Why do you
have to say it? Is it going to help the person?
2.Observe good timing - Is it the right time and
are you in the proper place to say it?
3.Be kind in your words - Are your words going
to lift, encourage, or hurt the person?
4.Be specific - Do you have concrete examples
as basis and points for improvement?
Receiving
Feedback
1.Listen well - Pay attention to what is being said
2.Think carefully - Make sure you understand the
feedback well. Don't hesitate to ask for
clarifications
3.React positively - Check your emotion. Keep
calm in case the feedback is not to your liking.
Walang iiyak
4.Be grateful - It is still up to you to accept and
use the information for your improvement.
Say "thank you" just the same. Wag
pabibo:)
LetLet
When was the last
time you received
feedback about your
self or something
that you have done?
How did you handle the
feedback?
How did it improve
you?
Social
groups

who interact with one another.

acceptance.
you will be
part of a
number of
groups in your
lifetime :)
Primary

in a primary group is regular, and the bond usually lasts for
a long time. It focuses more on emotional connection rather

Secondary group

stay together for a limited or determined time until the
tasks are accomplished. Meeting isn't as regular as the
previous group. An example would be your group in a
semester or sports team.

behaviors, obligations, and
responsibilities that are expected
in a given situation.
You can take up multiple roles
depending on the situation, time
of your life, or need.
Example: Marcus is fulfilling his role
as a student by studying well and
eventually graduating, while doing
that, he also has the role of a son
which has the obligation to help on
the household chores and take
care of his siblings.
All the world's a stage
And all the men and women merely
players; They have their exits, and their
entrances; And one man in his time
plays many parts.
-William Shakespeare
All of us has different roles to play that
come with expectations. The bigger the
role the bigger the responsibility. Yet
whatever role we have, big or small, we
play an important part in our society.
