3. THE W-ORD AND THE O-RDER
DEUT.18:10-13
There shall not be found among you
anyone who burns his son or his
daughter as an offering, anyone
who practices divination or tells
fortunes or interprets omens, or a
sorcerer or a charmer or a medium
or a necromancer or one who
inquires of the dead, for whoever
does these things is an
abomination to the Lord.
4. THE WORD AND THE ORDER
And because of these
abominations the Lord your God
is driving them out before you.
You shall be blameless before the
Lord your God, for these nations,
which you are about to
dispossess, listen to fortune-
tellers and to diviners. But as for
you, the Lord your God has not
allowed you to do this.
5. THE WORD AND THE ORDER
EXO. 20:2-3
I am the Lord your God,
who brought you out of
the land of Egypt, out of
the house of slavery.
“You shall have no other
gods before me.
6. (Lev.20:5-6) Should anyone turns to
mediums or fortune- tellers and
follow their wanton ways, I will
turn against such a one and cut
him off from his people.
(Lev. 20:27) A man or woman who
acts as medium or fortune teller
shall be put to death by stoning,
they have no one but themselves
to blame for their death.
7. (1Tim. 4:1) Now the Spirit expressly says
that in later times some will depart from
the faith by devoting themselves to
deceitful spirits and teachings of
demons,
(Eph.2:2) And you were dead in the
trespasses and sins in which you once
walked, following the course of this
world, following the prince of the power
of the air, the spirit that is now at work
in the sons of disobedience—
Gisunod ninyo ang dautang pagkinabuhi sa
kalibutan ug ang pangulo sa mga kagamhanan
diha sa kawanangan, ang ispiritu nga maoy
nagmando sa mga tawo nga misupil sa Diyos
8. Faith healers , fortune-tellers, mediums,
spiritists, etc. flagrantly ignored
completely the revealed truths of God in
His Word but instead advocated that
such practices are heavens designs.
They professed to the whole world that
they are divine instruments of God who
have the mission to attend to the needs
of the people. They are spiritually blinded
of the truth . ( Garcia, 2010)
Mat. 24:11-12
“And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And
because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow
9. R- The Reality
Christian’s spirituality
have been gnawed
(constantly bitten) to
destruction by the
enemy, Christians failed
to discern how they are
deceived by the tricks of
the enemy.
10. Question: What makes Christian’s
Spirituality bitten up to destruction?
Answer: Due to their ignorance of
the Scriptures that they,
unknowingly and unintentionally
have transgressed against the
First Commandment.
(Hos. 4:6)- My people are destroyed for
lack of knowledge; because you have
rejected knowledge,
12. Question: What is
occultism?
It is the belief or practice of
something preternatural like
witchcraft (magic,
sorcery)and other
superstitious beliefs and
the practices of idolatry.
13. Superstition and idolatry
- a sin against the first
Commandment
(Exo.20:3) First
Commandment: I am the
Lord your God, Thou
shall have no false gods
before me.
14. What is superstition and
idolatry?
Superstition-an irrational and
usually deep-seated quasi-religious
belief in a magical effect of an
action or ritual or of magical
powers of some objects which God
does not bestow upon them .
Idolatry- the worship of idols or
false gods, excessive admiration or
love for something.
15. Superstitions and idolatry had
been the sin of the heathen
races before and after
Christianity (term to mean
deliberate insults or does not
acknowledge the God of the bible,
Torah or Koran)
In other words it is a sin against the
First commandment of God, “I am
the Lord your God, thou shall have
no other gods before Me”
16. Question: What is the origin of
superstitious practices?
Historically when Magellan
discovered the Philippines the
natives/aborigines already
inhabited the country but they
were all pagans who haven’t
heard about Jesus Christ .
They were very religious
believing on the great spirit
called Bathala.
17. They imagined that the
spirits live in the sun so
they worship the sun. They
also adored other spirits
whom they believe to be
thriving in the plains they
tilled, in the rivers they
fished, in the rocks, in the
trees, in the clouds, in the
stars, caves, everywhere.
18. Many of these spirits were
suppose to be wicked. When
believed to be troubled by evil
spirits as in pestilence of famine
or sickness they would undergo
severe penance (sacrifice) and
then go to sleep. The plant or
animal that appeared in the
dream was to be the medicine that
would appease the evil spirits. (as
in baboy or manok nga ugis or
itom, etc,,or leaves of some plants
to drive the evil away)
19. Sometimes they dream of a
bull, a rattlesnake or other
objects that for them such
become sacred or have powers
so they won’t be harmed by
the spirits or by anybody. To
prevent these spirits from
harming them the natives
made use of medicine or a
charm known to possess
power or charm or magic. (mutya,
anting anting, habak)
20. Anything out of ordinary phenomena
like eclipse of the sun or moon,
thunder and lightning, filled them
with great fear as for them such
were signs that gods were angry at
them. Hence, the natives had men
called medicine men (tambalan-
orasyonan) /healers (with hurim
hurim or anting anting ) who were
supposed to be powerful against the
gods to drive them away or befriend
the spirits so they could dispense/set
free the victims.
