Notice how two countries dominated the global economy until the 19th century? Do you also see
that those two countries have started making their presence felt over the past four decades? That is
an example of a mega-story that we can begin to understand through the lens of economic
geography.
In the university catalog, we have provided a short description of this course:
Course addresses the important role of geography in the highly inter-connected global
economy, by examining the spatial patterns in population, resources, and the primary,
secondary, and tertiary economic sectors. Course will also highlight the relationship between
economics and the environment, and explore sustainable development.
Here’s how I want to parse that catalog description: I want you to:
Appreciate and understand the role played by geography and geographic barriers in the
development of the world economy and within national economies;
Understand the dynamics of the global economy, resource use, and the relationship between
population and the resource base;
Understand location theory and the rationale for the location of industry, cities, and systems
in their current location; and
Develop an understanding and appreciation of the solutions devised by societies to
economic problems
Thus, the Outcomes:
Explain how economic activities are located and organized in space
Explain how interregional differences in economic well-being may come about, and how
such processes affect your own daily life and professional plans; and

Develop a classroom or community center/plot of land floorplan where there is intentionality behind every inch of the space. Label each area with its purpose and what area of development it is meant to foster. Be specific, go beyond saying, "Cognitive, Social-emotional, Language, or Physical development". Given the aforementioned differences that exist between men in the US, how does the sociological imagination help you to position black fathers into the historical roles (child-rearing and breadwinner) previously mentioned? And, what theoretical perspective/perspectives would best explain why black fathers are not able to fulfill the breadwinner role in the United States? To help you address the aforementioned questions, project members should e
ngage in a semi-structured interview with eight persons (5 males and 5 females). These individuals can be your peers, family members, persons on campus or even strangers. Ask about their thoughts on what father involvement means to them, if there are differences in how black fathers are perceived in relation to white fathers and what do they feel, if any, account for these differences.
Ensure to collect data on the age, race/ethnicity, gender, perceived socio-economic status, religious affiliation, level of education and family structure, of the persons you interview (no names are to be solicited).
The Fatherhood Project should include:

A working definition, or definitions, of father involvement and detail the sociological and historical evolution of fathering in the U.S.
Theoretical Perspectives (this section can be combined with the first section)

Assess the successes and failures of two theoretical frameworks that you will use in your paper to explain your results on fathering.

Using the semi-structured interviews, write a detailed critique of what father involvement means, noting the differences that exist in the definitions, the differences in how black fathers and white fathers are perceived and the reason for these perceived differences. Please make note of how the aforementioned differences are stratified by race/ethnicity, gender, education, socio-economic background etc.
The Father Involvement Project
is a group assignment and asks you to develop a critical response with regard to the following quote, subsequent statements and questions:

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
