Corruption In The Colbert Report
Plato, Marx, and Rousseau all speak on the corruption of society and how the world surrounding it
really is. One of the commonly seen themes throughout the texts is the idea of corruption.
Corruption centers around one in power gaining advancement, often through bribery, by fraudulent
behavior, either politically or socially. Socrates speak on tyrants as an example of this. A tyrant
said to be someone who, Lives lordly...and lawlessly, and being himself a king...a tyrant leads a
State, to the performance of any reckless deed. (Plato) These ideas of corruptionare also seen
throughout the videos on The Colbert Report, by using the concept of Super PACs as an example.
When looking at the reading one can imagine the corruption of that time and it is easier for one to
brush it off as something in the past. The Colbert Report show the corruption of today when it
comes to politics, which in this case make this topic hit a lot closer to home for many of us.
Plato, Marx, and Rousseau have all spoke on ways that we are blinded by trying to understand a
system of government that, due to having money and power over us, seem to be on our side but is...

A Super PAC is an organization that can raise unlimited funds from individuals, corporations, and
other groups. They are not allowed though to fund someone running for public office. They can
do many of the things that candidate s campaigns do at the same time such as run ads, make
phone calls, send out mailers, but it cannot coordinate with the candidate themselves (The Colbert
Report). Super PACs follow the trend of supporting a particular candidate while the elections are
going on. As many are also tied to being formerly owned by the candidate who passes it on to
someone close to them. The show goes into detail the ins and out of how the money come into the
system and leaves through both ads for the candidate and to them

Hrothgar And Beowulf
Lord Hrothgar of Denmark, a relative of the colossal ruler Shield Sheafson, appreciates a
prosperous and fruitful rule. He assembles an awesome mead corridor, called Heorot, where his
warriors can accumulate to drink, get endowments from their master, and tune in to stories sung by
the scops, or troubadours. Be that as it may, the happy clamor from Heorotrankles Grendel, a
loathsome evil presence who lives in the swamplands of Hrothgar s kingdom. Grendel threatens the
Danes consistently, slaughtering them and vanquishing their endeavors to battle back. The Danes
endure numerous times of dread, risk, and passing on account of Grendel. In the long run, be that as
it may, a youthful Geatish warrior named Beowulfknows about Hrothgar s situation. Roused by the
test, Beowulf sails to Denmark with a little organization of men, resolved to crush Grendel.
Hrothgar, who had once done an awesome support for Beowulf s dad Ecgtheow, acknowledges
Beowulf s offer to battle Grendel and holds a devour in the saint s respect. Amid the devour, a
jealous Dane named Unferth insults Beowulf and blames him for being unworthy of his notoriety.

Tunes are sung in acclaim of Beowulf, and the festival endures late into the night. However,
another danger is drawing nearer. Grendel s mom, a bog witch who lives in a destroy lake,
comes to Heorot looking for vindicate for her child s demise. She kills Aeschere, one of Hrothgar
s most put stock in counselors, before lurking without end. To vindicate Aeschere s demise, the
organization goes to the dinky marsh, where Beowulf jumps into the water and battles Grendel s
mom in her submerged den. He slaughters her with a sword fashioned for a goliath, at that point,
discovering Grendel s cadaver, executes it and conveys the head as a prize to Hrothgar. The Danish

Safety And Security In Prisons In A Prison Or Prison
It is very important that you realize your surroundings in a jail or prison. I made sure that I read
every inmates file all 100 of them. You will soon realize that you are a supervisor over Inmates,
some say you are a baby sitter as much as some do not want to hear that. It is true. I love my job.
I love my co workers, best guys I have worked with. I want to make sure they get home to their
families so we go into work the way we came out. Safety and Security is to help us and help the
inmates and protect us and the public also the Inmates. We assure every ones safety, we keep
head count at least three times a shift. We do not want anyone to escape. How being a
Correctional Officer can impact lives in general Three major and minor points I want to refresh
everyone on before my essay. The three major points are: We deal with the public, We deal with
the fact that our lives are in danger every time we walk in the door to go to work, Safety and
Security The three minor points: Headcount from escapes, Contraband from Inmates, Safety and
Jail is not the place you want to be at any time. I do not enjoy going into work and seeing the
same people there after they told me I am getting my life together . Yeah, You were not. It is an
easy job, you are the only one who can make it difficult for you. I want to help those get out of jail
and never return it is my job as far as safety and security goes. I want to go over this in my essay

How Is King Arthur Real
Throughout the centuries King Arthur s story has continued to develop through speculation,
conjecture, and evidence; however, much of this has long been contested. Few people argue he
exists for lack of evidence and an abundance of mystery. The majority of Arthurian enthusiasts
believe he never existed or was a character created by combining the best traits of heroes at the
time. Some just do not care, these people get from Arthur inspiration and courage, whether he
was real or not. In most cases King Arthur being real would just be icing on the cake. Such a
discovery would be life changing not only would it put to rest all the controversy that has
perplexed people for centuries, but it would also bestow credibility where it is due. On the... Show

The Britons on the other hand find Bran to be fact and know him as BrГўn the Blessed and a hero.
Bran in this case is not Artuir s brother, but his brother in law. As there is only a correlation of
names no conclusion can be made on who was and was not there. There is one popular belief
that King Arthur was one individual or the product of the combination of several people. There s
little hard evidence on who Arthur could have been based off of: for the most part it is
speculation. The Real King Arthur is an article on a website called lordsandladies.org that is
strictly used for educational purposes. In this article four historical figures are presented as being
inspiration for Arthur, the first runner up is Magnus Clemens Maximus. Maximus was a Celt and
general who became the nephew of the Welsh King Coel Godhebog through marriage. Maximus s
base was Carmarthen or Caernarvon. Another article from The History Files confirms that King
Godhebog was indeed Maximus s uncle through marriage. There is one flaw in this conclusion and
that is due to Monmouths The History of the Kings of Britain which states that Maximus was of
Imperial descent and that Constantius was his ancestor. Maximus s dad was Maximianus who was

Analysis Of From Russia With Love
From Russia With Love (1963), directed by Terence Young is the second film in the James Bond
movie franchise. Sean Connery and Robert Shaw headline the film s actors. This film is a spy
thriller with twists and turns and puts James Bond into a position of entrapment and must use his
brains to escape and get back to England alive. From Russia With Love is a timeless classic
through its new standards of filmmaking and characters. This movie also sets the tone for the rest
of the James Bondseries.
The first reason why this film is a classic is because of the introduction of spy gadgets for James
Bond. Bond today is partly known for his use of gadgets to get out of tough situations. This is the
first Bond film that uses these.
When Bond is getting orders to go to Turkey for his mission, he is brought a briefcase that has
hidden knives on the sides and has to be open a different way than normal in order for the opener
of the case not to be sprayed with tear gas. These tools will help him later in the film multiple
when he is in the face of danger.
This scene sets the tone not for just this film but for the many other popular movies of this
franchise through the use of gadgets. A large reason why many people enjoy James Bond is
because of astonishing use of these tools. With help of these gadgets, this movie can be considered
a classic because of the memorable fights in the film.
As with all spy films, there are going to be fight to the death scenes. Although it is predictable
who will win in these films, directors can still make these scenes very suspenseful and exciting.
Young does this exactly in this film with a very memorable fight scene that could be considered
one of the best of all films.
Bond seems to be trapped for good this time when he is in the train car with Donald Grant who
was a gun pointed at Bond. Bond starts talking to Grant and eventually convinces Grant to take
the 50 gold sovereigns. When Grant opens the briefcase, which is given to Bond with spy gadgets,
he is met with a plume of tear gas. This starts the fight as Bond gets up to take the gun. A fight
ensues, going across the small train car and eventually making Bond the winner by killing Grant.
The fight however did

Peasants During The High Middle Ages
Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and
1300 A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in
these two distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the
manorial villages you had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into
a military obligation with the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were
a class of people that worked their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more
of an employee and the serfs were little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s
land. The serfs could not leave or do anything without the lord s permission and most of the time
they had to pay fees to be granted the permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople
elected their officials, had freedom to choose a careers, they move about where they liked, and
could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in fact free and not absolutely
controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all the power and had absolute
control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial villages the lords of the
land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation taken so the vassal would
be cared for. Although once one became a vassal this obligation would follow through all the
generations of the family. Serfs on the other hand

Capacity of the Mentally Ill to Conclude Contracts
Explain the law relating to the mentally ill to conclude contracts and consider why these rules exist.
Introduction
A contract is a legally binding agreement between two or more persons that is recognised by the
courts. In order for an agreement to be legally binding there are certain criteria that have to be
met. One of these criteria is capacity. The majority of us have the capacity to form a legally
binding agreement, however certain categories of people are limited by law to make contracts the
main categories are minors, people judged incapable of contracting due to mental disorders,
drunkenness or under the influence of drugs.

Necessaries will depend largely on the individual circumstances and requirements of the
individual but the following general categories include Food and Drink, Clothing, Board and
Lodging, Funeral Expenses and Medical Aid, however the burden of showing not only that the
goods were suitable to the condition in life of the individual but also that they were suitable to
their actual requirements at the time of the sale and delivery, rests upon the supplier of the goods.
Consequently, where an individual has already been sufficiently supplied with the goods in
question, even though this fact is not known to the supplier, the contract will not be a binding one.
A comparison can be drawn in the case of Nash v Inman [1908] a tailor supplied a Cambridge
student who was a minor at the time with clothing which included eleven fancy waistcoats. The
claimant in this case sued the defendant for the price of the clothes, at court the claimant s father a
man of means gave evidence that the defendant was at the time in sufficient supply of clothing. The
court held that the tailor had failed to prove that the clothes supplied to the defendant were indeed
necessaries and that the claim was bound to fail because of this reason. (Elliott Quinn 2007 pg63)
Conclusion This essay has shown that persons certified as insane under the Mental Health act 1983
section 3 can never make a valid contract, however persons with a mental illness can

In The Story of an Hour and A pair of silk stocking Chopin illustrates how women face the
consequences of never acquiring happiness in their lives if they follow the ways society expects
them too.
In the story of an hour Chopin discuss how getting married can lead you to live a life of anguish. In
the beginning of the short story Mrs. Mallard revives terrible news that her husband has been
recently killed, she Wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment. This intense reaction is how
society would expect her to act if your husband dies. Mrs. Mallard then goes into her bedroom to

She had every right to spend money on herself, go where she wanted, and do whatever she
wanted to do without anyone questioning her. Having kids and a husband has affected her
freedom greatly, which is internally affecting her. With all these responsibilities she had no time
no second of time to devote to the past. Mrs. Sommers can t dwell in the past with so many
things to do; she needs to focus on getting though the present day with little money to spend.
With never looking back on the past or the future she is now trained in thinking that tomorrow
will never come. Just like Mrs. Mallard not thinking for herself and dreading the next day being
the same, Mrs. Sommers has transformed into a typical mother. Everyday is the same to her all
she does is take care of her kids. Chopin continues to display how following the expectations of
society can be detrimental. After Mrs. Sommers figured out what she wanted to spend on her
children, she went shopping. She went into a store and sat down for a minute feeling a bit tired
and her hand unintentionally touched something wonderful. She looked down to see that her hand
lay upon a pile of silk stockings. Feeling these stockings made her feel alive; she has wanted

African Of African American Culture
There is no doubt that African Americans have a rich cultural background and history like the many
different ethnic groups who settled in the New World, whose origins lie in another country. For this
reason, America was known as the melting pot. However, the backgrounds of each of these cultures
were not always understood or, in the case of African Americans, accepted among the New World
society and culture. Americans were ignorant to the possibility of differences among groups of
people until information and ideas started to emerge, particularly, the African retention theories.
This sparked an interest in the field of African culture and retention in African Americans. However,
the study of African Americanculture truly emerged as a result of increased awareness in America,
specifically through the publication and findings of scholarly research and cultural events like the
Harlem Renaissance where all ethnicities were able to see this rich historical culture of African
Americans.
There were many who became dedicated to this field of study, but two of the most predominant
researchers and scholars of the African retention theories were Lorenzo Turner and Melville
Herskovits. While both researchers examined different aspects of culture, Herskovits and Turner
were both convinced that there was indeed African retention in African American cultureand
society (Wade Lewis 402). Turner specifically researched linguistic retention, while Herskovits
researched many aspects of the

The society we live in today has expectations for everyone from birth till death. These
expectations can make us become a person we never thought we would be, or a person we are glad

Apology By Plato Analysis
Reading Reflection: Plato In one of Plato s works Apology , Socrates attempts to defend himself
in court of law where he is being prosecuted on corrupting the youth. While defending himself,
Socrates also defends his choice of receiving a death penalty, rather then testifying against his
beliefs. Although he makes some very strong and valid arguments, lots of readers would wonder
why would such a wise man choose death over his life. Socrateswas a man that was on a mission is
search of the truth about wisdom. As a philosopher he would never settle for one simple answer,
he would take every angel of an argument therefore even a simple idea would be argued until his
opponent would be frustrated enough to quit. During his defense Socrates states, A man who
really fights for justice must lead a private, not a public, life if he is to survive for even a short time
(Apology36). Socrates is arguing that due to politics corrupt nature, anybody that wants to fight for
justice must stay out of the public eye. To back up his claim, Socrates brings up an example from
his past when he served as a member of the Council,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even today, anybody that has ever been a part of a social group that makes decisions, political or
not, most likely ran into this issue. When Socrates states that a man who really fights for justice

their own beliefs, not based on others. Don t just agree with others and make an assumption that
they are correct. Expand your horizons and think outside the box, think about yourself and what
you think is right. If you are positive that you are correct, do not be afraid to speak up and stand
up for yourself. However, at times others attempt to punch those who do not follow along with their
agenda. Therefore, most of the people just go along. Following others is not always the wisest

General Anxiety Disorder
General anxiety disorder (GAD) is a prevalent, debilitating disorder recognized by the DSM 5.
Some of the symptoms that are associated with GAD are restlessness/ feeling keyed up, being
easily fatigues, difficulty concentrating/ having a blank mind, irritability, muscle tension, and
disturbed sleep. Excessive anxiety, the most common mental health problem experienced in
average youth, causes individual distress and functional impairment throughout children s lives
(Gross Hen, 2004). Anxiety is also a mental status that is elicited in anticipation of threat of some
kind. Sensations of anxiety are a normal part of human experiences, but excessive or inappropriate
anxiety can become an illness. High levels of anxiety can be accompanied by a set of behavioral
and physiological responses including avoidance, vigilance and arousal from a stimuli or stimulus.
Children and adolescence of both genders usually experience anxiety symptoms at different levels
of intensity that frequently afflicts their everyday life. Anxiety has been treated with drug therapy,
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relaxation training and even systematic desensitization. To
diagnose general anxiety disorder, one would look for many presenting symptoms, characteristics,
and treatments.
The DSM 5 has been changed many times in the past, dating back to 18th century. During the 18th
century, anxiety was mostly perceived as physical symptoms that produced anxiety profiles as a
result of underlying

Video Games And Its Effects On Female Characters
Throughout the world women are depicted to be oversexualized among forms of media such as
video games and comic books. The idea of oversexualization towards female characters is that
they have been often drawn and animated in hypersexual ways. Even going as far as viewing
them as a sex object, their revealing body images are eye candy through the eyes of men. Hence
women found in comic books and video games are frequently emphasized by their excessive
physical appearances, objectification, portrayal, and character role.
So, what does oversexualize mean anyway? The term oversexualize defines as to sexualize
excessively, which means to make something of sexual that is beyond degree in this case, a person
or someone of a gender whether male or female can be oversexualized. To begin with, costumes
that female characters wear are far more or less provocative clothes, but mainly towards sexually
explicit ways. For example, Ivy Valentine comes from a video game series called Soul Calibur
who is the first character to have a revealing outfit and in which her costumes appears to be a
dominatrix style. Furthermore, she shows a huge amount of cleavage with her exposed thighs
and hips despite wearing high boots and long gloves which indicates to be a skin display. This
brings us to our next reason about body types. The women s appearances we see in media have
been designed to become a perfect ideal and yet their massive breasts are exaggeratedly drawn to be
in the size of basketballs

The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680
From an evangelical standpoint, the 20,000 Native American Christian converts by 1675 and the
establishment of 36 churches in a new land is progress for the church. However, from a native
perspective, conversion may be seen as a submissive last resort and sad desertion of traditional,
shamanistic beliefs. Priests often destroyed idolatrous statues/buildings that can be viewed as
testaments to years of cultural development of a belief system. (Also, in addition to conversion,
they had to become Spaniard by culture (dress, language, etc.) and therefore give up their native
identity. The Pueblo revolt of 1680 caused major setbacks for the Spanish empire in Mexico,
counteracting years of progress and wasted money and resources. However,

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels
Quite obviously, Lemuel Gulliver is the most focused on character in Jonathan Swift s novel
Gulliver s Travels, as he is the most characteristically developed. Gulliver is from a middle class
English family and we see all angles of his personality, his morals, and his behavior through the
various situations he finds himself in and his observable conduct and the actions he choses to take
in those situations. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to
realize more about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and
Houyhnhnms, Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we
only get to see the very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he
builds into a more fleshed out character.
In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple
man. He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to
Emanuel College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21).
Gulliver also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as
characters. Although he s the most focused on character in the story, there doesn t necessarily
appear to be any extraordinary thing about him that separates him from other human beings. His
actions aren t as daring, courageous, or bold as one may expect from a main character. Swift uses

Intensive Child Rearing Ideology
During the 1930 s, the intensive mothering ideology began to emerge. Child rearing beliefs started
to shift in focus. Children, previously viewed as evil, sinful beings in need of discipline in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, were now being considered innocent and vulnerable.
Approaches to parentingpractices moved towards nurturance and devotion. Mothers adjusted their
behaviors to be warm, child centered, and completely devoted to meeting the needs of their
children. When mothers lacked attention and nurturance towards their children, they were accused
of depriving their children of essential elements of motherly love and devotion. The mothers were

Intensive mothering standards continued as the norm in the United States after World War II.
Women who entered the workforce to support war efforts were encouraged to return home to tend

societal importance of women staying at home and their role as mothers. Theorists, Harry Harlow

the attachment contribute to developmental problems in children. The booming economy and new

Rise Of Crime In America
The rise of crime in America seems like it is getting worse each and every year. To say that crime
only exist in the hood is an understatement. Crime is happening everywhere in our poverty
neighborhoods, even in the wealthiest neighborhoods crime is happening. You have different types
of crime weather it is murders, shoplifting, robberies it happens. Rising murders and homicides in
cities deserve attention now before it s too late and it s one of our loved ones.
Chicago getting the troops sent to help with the crime cases is a good idea. I do think that there can
be other ways that can lighten some of the violence in Chicago is by making stricter gun laws. I
think when a person that is dangerous get a hold of a weapon, that is not good and they should be
the biggest targeted people. I think that if people in Chicago do purchase a firearm they should be
required to take a gun course for a minimum of 20 hours at the most. I think that ll enlighten them

Evolution Of The First Human Ancestors
The chapter 1 called Up To The Starting Line gives a brief report on the topic of evolution of the
first human ancestors. The earliest stages of human evolution took place in Africa with abundant
of fossil evidence to prove. We all originated in Africa around 7 million years age. Our closet
common ancestor living are called the surviving species of the great apes that are chimpanzee,
bonobo, and gorilla. But the most closets animal to humans are chimpanzee. The homo erectus was
significantly close to us in modern humanbody size but lacks half of the brain. Homo erectus were

. In the chapter called A Natural Experiment of History the Moriori and Maori both descended

two group so different from each other because they came from the same people. The Moriori
were hunter gathers of a small isolated population that were equipped with only simply
technology and weapons. They were inexperienced at war. Also lacked strong leadership in
order to take care of their group. But the Maori invader (from New Zealand s North Island) came
from large population of famers. The farmers in Maori constantly engaged in wars, more
advanced in technology and weapon. Maori operated under a strong leadership. There is no
hesitation that when the two group came in contact Maori would had destroyed the Moriori. On
the other hand since the Maori and Moriori descended from the same race cannot defend why one
group was more advance over the other. It was the environmental and geographical factors that
caused Maori to advance more. For example, Chatham is very small and remote

Gender Identity In Lou Reed s The Velvet Underground
The bizarre, avant garde music of the Velvet Underground was too much for the family friendly
mainstream of the mid sixties. While the Beatles were performing two minute pop songs, and the
Rolling Stones were covering blues numbers, Lou Reed, the lead singer and primary songwriter of
the Velvet Underground, was composing experimental art rock on such topics as heroin, sexual
deviancy, cross dressing, and hedonism. His strong interest in literature influenced his songwriting.
Reed claimed he wanted to bring the sensitivities of the novel to rock music . His lyrics depicted

Old Chillingworth In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a book written about the punishment of bearing
the cost of Adultery. This features the leading character, Hester Prynne, letting the reader see her
as a symbol of courage and how the effect of a single letter can have on one s life. Hester Prynne
and her lover have too many problems in the result of the letter, with one, of course, being the

when his kindness was due to luring out the truth. His rise to fame in the town assigns him to the

Dimmesdale right in the lion s den; leaving Chillingworth to be able to poke and prod at

The Founding Of Rome: Romulus and Remus History has appointed an important event,
surrounded by myth, that envelopes the foundation of the most magnificent city of the western
world, Rome. The myth was initiated by Roman scholars of the late century B.C., who despite the
fact that they had not witnessed any of the events concerning Romulus and Remus, created this
myth from only a figment of imagination and beliefs. Romans and many historians of our day owe
their gratitude to these scholars for their contribution to the history of the foundation of Rome. The
existence of Remus and Romulus has become an essential element in the establishment of Rome.

establishment of this city. Furthermore, we have to recognize the importance of Rhea and the god
Mars, who played a significant role in the foundation of Rome because past events that occurred to

Water Pumps In California
Have you ever felt uncomfortable about not taking a shower for two or more days? Well, for
many Californians that rely on failing water pumps, many of them haven t taken a shower in over
two to five months. Three years of over pumping has caused the water supply in our underground
aquifers to slowly dry up because farmers are pumping more water out than can be replaced by the
rain. Now, because many towns are starting to lose their water due to their reliance on aquifer
pumps, legislation is being considered. But this decision to put a cap on those pumps has many
farmers upset, for these farmers believe that they should have an unlimited access to water. One
farmer said that The city folk are biting the hand that feeds them. But as many farmers believe that
they should have unlimited access to the pumps, many people in the cities that have no water

That means that the more than 40% of California is supplied by aquifers, that means that there is
a lot of water if it is able to support 40% of California. And if California did pass groundwater
regulations, that means that farmers would have to evenly distribute water or lose a lot of their
crops and that would be bad because then farmers would not produce as many crops, that means
less revenue for California. That is why so many farmers are against the groundwater regulations.
Even though all of these people are against the groundwater regulations, they have to think of the
long term effect of pumping groundwater. If we were to keep pumping groundwater, we would
slowly dwindle down our supply of groundwater, which is one of the reasons that California is
such a good place to farm and grow crops. And the more we pump out groundwater the more
California sinks into the gap left by the water that had been pumped out of the ground. That is why
groundwater regulations are important to the future of

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Presidential Candidates
The Strengths and Weaknesses of the System of Choosing Presidential Candidates
It seems reasonable to conjecture that the Achilles heel of the modern presidency is one of
recruitment. The long winded delegate nomination process could in theory be replaced by a
daylong direct election of presidential candidates. Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential
race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign
seasons. All four phases influence the outcome of candidate selection and much also depends on
campaign finance, the role of the media and the nominees themselves.
Although the process is considered a complex, drawn out affair in the eyes of ... Show more content

In Caucuses, the power to select delegates, who are sent to nominate presidential candidates at
the National Party Convention, rests with Party activists who meet first at a local, then county
and finally at a state level to make their choices. The caucus system propounds the strength of the
Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993,
p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in
smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic,
and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968,
the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media
Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by
Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party
elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and
although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more
than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level
of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some
primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly

Hamlet And Revenge In Hamlet
Hamlet has lived through plenty of ups and downs throughout his childhood. He has been lost and
confused within himself, but knew he wanted one thing, which was revenge on his fathers killer,
Claudius. His passion of hate developed for Claudius as he married Hamlets mother shortly after
the king s death. Hamletcould not decide on the perfect decision for himself, his motherand father as
well as the best way to follow through with the best consequence for Claudius that would
impress his father. His everyday life, along with his love life, left him with an empty heart,
which slowed the process of the revenge down. Hamlet never expected to be captured and
kidnapped by pirates, as he was sent overseas as a young man. His inside thoughts were attacking
and overwhelming Him, leaving him depressed and anxious. Hamlet s life has been leading him to
negative thoughts that he cannot process or act accordingly to, due to the excessive amount of
issues and options involved in his life at a young age, him being overwhelmed lead him to delaying
the process of avenging his fathers killer.
Hamlet really wanted the revenge on Claudius but was really on the fence of what to actually do
to follow through with then plan. Claudius was brave to feel so free, as Hamlet had opportunities
to take advantage of him and had plenty of hate towards him for more than one reason. The action
Hamlet may want and outcome of it, may be completely different as to what his father would do or
like him to do.

Analysis Of Dan Brown s Angels And Demons
The book I choose for this marking period was Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Dan Brown s
father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path
where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his
books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt
that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a
refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to
think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the
same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question
several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that
Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against
science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This
book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science,
and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of
either. I also believe that even if a person has no stance on science and religion, or is indifferent to
it, it will still teach them new perspectives to think about.
The story involves Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconology and symbology at

An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All
consumers should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once
consumers have been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include
providing a composting method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program
would provide the means for all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing
via trash receptacles. Food compost bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow
for proper disposal of waste. Companies should locate composting facilities and begin distributing
food waste to said facilities rather than traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical,
companies should work to create their own composting stations.
True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for
composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and
sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most
consistent way to measure improvement.
There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide
composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives
for implementation and maintenance of the composting problems.

The Diamond Necklace Affair Essay
The Diamond Necklace Affair
Marie Antoinette, Queen of France from 1770 to 1797 was despised by the people of France.
Their hatred of her and the monarchy in general led to the French Revolution. Many issues led to
the unpopularity of Queen Maria Antoinette, her vanity, her disregard for the people, but perhaps
the most significant was the Affair of the Diamond Necklace. In 1785, the court jewelers, Bohmer
and Basange, constructed a necklace with five hundred and forty diamonds of varying sizes in an
ugly arrangement that resembled the collars worn by circus animals. They hoped that King Louis
XV would purchase it for his favorite, Madame du Barry. Unfortunately, the king died before the

It was, after all, the Queen that tried to prevent him from being appointed Grand Almoner of
France. Campan replied that the gentleman must be mistaken. Bohmer answered that Campan was
the one being deceived. His eminence, he said, sees [the Queen] in private and he has brought me
thirty thousand francs from the Queen as a down payment. Madame Campan immediately notified
the Queen of his visit. When Marie Antoinette called the jeweler back for questioning the diabolical
plot was discovered (Komroff 86).
The plot began in 1777 when, against Marie Antoinette s wishes, Rohan was named Grand
Almoner. Trying desperately to soften the Queen s anger, realizing that if she wouldn t
acknowledge him, his power in court would diminish greatly, he wrote many letters to her but to no
avail. She still refused to honor him with the slightest sign of recognition (86).
His desire for recognition led to his involvement with an adventuress and swindler by the name of
Countess de la Motte Valois (Affair). Countess Jeanne la Motte Valois came from a very strange
background. She was a direct descendant of King Henry II of France but generations of bad
marriages had reduced the family to poverty. She married an officer of the gendarmes and the
couple assumed the titles of Count and Countess (Komroff 87).

Sociology and Social Structure
Social structure is the way society is organized into predictable relationships. There are five
elements when you break down social structure. The first being status. We usually associate
having a status to the amount of influence, wealth and fame. But sociologists use the term status
to refer to any of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from
the lowest to the highest. Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the
president of the United States. Sociologists also see some status to be achieved or ascribed and an
ascribed status is when a person is assigned to it by society without regard for the person s unique
talents or characteristics. But the achieved status comes to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

preindustrial development is the agrarian society. They primarily engage in the production of food.
Technology seems to grow but is still quite basic. A industrial society is a society that depends on

Underground Man Is Plagued By The Proponents Of A Society
Underground Man is plagued by the proponents of a society which thrives on reason and
rationality. The idea that behind every question and thought there lies a calculated and precise
answer that is highly valued in the face of society. The societal expectation of being
extraordinarily rational is referred to as the Palace of Crystal by Underground Man, here there is
no room for the five senses only room for contemplation. Though this level of breadth and
rationality correlates with an excess in consciousness, as one always has to think about things at a
level which is unimaginable to most. The latter leading to not only indecision, but also self doubt,
and over analyzation of normally simple situations. As a side effect of the enlightened mindset of
society, Underground Man develops an excess consciousness in which his pride directly leads to his
break with Liza and the consequences that stem from that break. The intense need of utilitarian
societies to codify rational human behavior results in the ignoring of the complex nature of human
beings as seen with Underground Man. The societal call for the maximization of utility, being
useful, profitable or beneficial, invites one to turn to intense reason and truth in order to discover
the right thing. Underground Man developed this severe nature in which he knew that in order,

stilled the popular mode of transport. Transport can have effects on the surrounding land but not all
the time. People are traveling to work differently to previous generations. All of these issues explain
the situation of the transport systems in Christchurch and Minneapolis.
One issues that was raised in the readings is that cars continue to be a popular choice for
residents in both cities. Previous studies have shown that cities with high density living, use less
cars because most people walk or catch a bus due to everything they need being so close to their
home. This pattern is not happening in the case studies. Cars are the preferred mode of transport
even if the residents have access to public transport. In Minneapolis, residents do not tend to use the
rail networks. One reason is because commercial activities tend

Swot Analysis Of Penney. Penney
Analysis of the J.C. Penney Case Analysis The first store of J.C. Penney Company was opened
in Kemmerer, Wyoming, on April 14, 1902, by James Cash Penney. In 1913, the company was
incorporated under the new name, JC Penney Company. JC Penney is one of the largest veteran
retail chain in American which has 110 year old. The highest sales at all time was $32.5 billion
and the company occupies a large share of market in department stores. Then the market
changed, the shopper has spent less time at the mall and more time at the discount store, like
Walmart and Target. At the beginning, JC Penny did not find this problem, since 2005, the sales
had been decreased, they loosed a lot of money. Then JC Penny hired a new CEO, Ron Johnson,
discovered this problem and did some change. The new CEO had made a new strategic plan, and
a major price based campaign to revamp JC Penney s image. In the end, the new strategic plan
was not working, it cannot help JC Penney keep the customer. In this case, we should discuss the
JC Penny s new strategic plan, based on price change and change the company s traditional
operation. For the first question, of the major pricing strategies, which one best describes JC
Penney s Fair and Square pricing strategy? The revival of the JC Penney is the key to a new Fair
and Square pricing strategy. At the first, the company cut about 40 percent across all regular retail
prices, and then they make a three tiered pricing

Bravery In The Giver
Character Analysis when focused on survival Bravery is a hard trait to come by, but many
people have this quality even if they don t know it yet. In both The Forest of Hands and Teeth by
Carrie Ryan and The Giver by Lois Lowry the main characters find their own bravery when
focused on their own survival. In The Giver, Jonas bravery shined through when he decided to
leave his community for the better of others. In The Forest Of Hands and Teeth, the bravery in
Mary is evident when decided to leave her community on the risky, forbidden path that she had
always been warned of. Both of the characters bravery is shown when their lives are put at risk
and they are able to go after their own wildest dreams without restriction. Specifically, Mary s...

To begin, one of the most brave thoughts that Jonas has had was his thought when he realizes
how dangerous it would be to bring Gabriel with him, and does it anyway. Jonas was very aware
that there was a uge chance that Gabriel would not survive the trip. They could starve, freeze,
and get caught by his community. Jonas decided to take gabe anyway and they made it. Jonas
was brave enough to not only risk his own life, but also Gabriels for the people in his community.
Joas was trying to save his community and he left the safety of it to help it. He put his life
before everyone else s and that is brave. In The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, Mary
also discovers her bravery when trying to survive. Primarily, Mary has a strong desire to see the
ocean. This is brave because the ocean is a very dangerous place. Unconsecrated roam the
beaches and wash up on shore. Mary learns this but refuses to let her greatest desire die. Mary
has watched both her mother and father pass, and those are the people who spoke to her about
the ocean and told stories about how beautiful it is. They told her that it s out there somewhere
beyond the Forest Of Hands And Teeth. When Mary and the rest of her friends are forced out of
her village Mary is Forced to survive. When she is fighting for her life she realizes that she will
not give up the ocean (Ryan 264). Mary is not going to let this desire become a fantasy again, she
will not give up hope in finding the ocean. She watches almost all of the important people in her
life die and all she has left is the ocean. Her bravery allows her to do what she couldn t do if she
was still stuck in that village and not forced to survive. She leaves her group to find the ocean,

Gender Bias Essay
Gender bias, also known as sexism, is a full of attitudes, laws, taboos, preferences, and behaviors
that differentiates and discriminates against either sex. These may be a position of which male
dominance and female subjugation in the modern society. It could also be a form of sexual
stereotypes between men and women, these are commonly experienced in employment versus
other positions. A final place that discrimination is faced is the academic environment, the
female to male ratios are not in sync in certain programs and courses because of this and it is
pressuring men and women to not go into certain fields and do what they love and please. Most
advertisements on Television, magazines, newspapers, online ad s, use a charged sexually
image with a female as the star. Women are to be a pleasure for men, and nothing else. Many
people have different opinions on genders and sexuality and that is okay, but sometimes you just
need to keep them to yourselves. I was walking through Walmart with a friend the other night,
and we turned the corner to go down an aisle and they were walking towards us. As we
approached them, they moved out of the way, so we could get through. There were 5 male
specimens, around the ages of 20 24, two white, one Hispanic, and two black guys. Most of
them were very tall, both white guys were thin and lean, the Hispanic guy was short and lean,
and the two black guys were tall and thick. All five of the guys dress in upper class clothes such
as Nike, Adidas, Under armor. As I observed these guys, they were in a group of friends. They
were walking according to race, two white guys in the front, and then the Hispanic guy was in the
middle, and following him was the two black guys. They were very respectful when we turned the
corner and let us go through, as we passed them they went back into their formation. Two white
guys in the front, and then the Hispanic in the middle, and the two black guys in the back. I also
observed that they were having separate conversations among themselves. As it appeared to me, it
looked like they were just socializing and spending time together, and goofing around. They could
have been shopping but none of them had anything in their hands at the time that we

Come Fly With Me Narrative Essay
As I lay on the side of a pothole filled road, leaking through my torn Kevlar jacket. I graze my
neck with my index finger. Then run my finger across a slit running across my neck from the
right side of my carbon fiber helmet to my left shoulder. I imagine a better place. Maybe dinner
tonight with my pretty lady and some deep dish sausage and onion pizza. I see Frank Sinatrawith
pulled back brown hair, a top hat and a black suit with a red bow tie standing on a stage. He starts
singing, Come Fly with Me .
My first love story may not be like the typical Romeo and Juliet, but hey to say the least it is a love
story and MY love story. Now, I have never had a girlfriend. Until I met her at the age of sixteen.
She was an alright little darling, about a seven on a scale of one to ten. She was smart, skinny,
and had a moderate look in the daylight. Maybe if you saw her at night after a few cocktails she
would look better. I could have asked the old man in the clouds for better, but she would be just
right. Sadowski 2
We met in Illinois near a hotel 8, strip club filled town called Rockford. The sight of crackheads
on each corner improved her attractive level significantly. She was a pale skinned blonde girl
from, Ohio, with a tattoo of the American flag across her wrist, about six inches in length. After
small talk she gave me her phone number. Joy rushed through my body, I finally felt happy for once.

Water Purification Essay
Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants,
suspended solids and gases from contaminated water. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific
purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water), but water purification may
also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical,
pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include
physical processes such as filtration, sedimentation, and distillation, biological processes such as
slow sand filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such asflocculation and
chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet... Show more content on

Most deep groundwater does not need screening before other purification steps. 3. Storage Water
from rivers may also be stored in bankside reservoirs for periods between a few days and many
months to allow natural biological purification to take place. This is especially important if
treatment is by slow sand filters. Storage reservoirs also provide a buffer against short periods of
drought or to allow water supply to be maintained during transitory pollutionincidents in the source
river. 4. Pre chlorination In many plants the incoming water was chlorinated to minimize the growth
of fouling organisms on the pipe work and tanks. Because of the potential adverse quality effects
(see chlorine below), this has largely been discontinued.[3]
Widely varied techniques are available to remove the fine solids, micro organisms and some
dissolved inorganic and organic materials. The choice of method will depend on the quality of the
water being treated, the cost of the treatment process and the quality standards expected of the
processed water.
[edit]pH adjustment
Pure water has a pH close to 7 (neither alkaline nor acidic). Sea water can have pH values that
range from 7.5 to 8.4 (moderately alkaline). Fresh water can have widely ranging pH values
depending on the geology of the drainage basin or aquifer and the influence of contaminant inputs
(acid rain). If the water is acidic (lower than 7), lime, soda ash, or sodium hydroxide can be added
to raise the pH during

Tetralogy Of Fallot Case Study
Tetralogy of Fallot
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of
the person heart that is developed while the fetus is in utero. The abnormality does change the
normal direction of the hearts blood flow. TOF affects four different formations within the heart.
The person that is born with TOF defect has it the rest of their life, although parts of the heart
defect are repaired.
Natural history
TOF is a rare but very complex heart defect. This heart defect affects about 5 out of every 10,000
babies. TOF affects boys and girls equally. The four abnormalities include a large ventricular septal
defect (also known as a VSD), pulmonary stenosis, right ventricular hypertrophy, and an overriding

Parents of the infant with TOF usually have normal hearts and have no genetic predisposition for
this defect. Heredity may cause some cases especially the mothers and fathers that have TOF are
possibly more prone to have children with TOF. Infants that have other genetic disorders like Down
syndrome and DiGeorge syndrome often can have defects like TOF.
Causative and/or Susceptibility Genes
Doctors often do not know what causes TOF. Factors and conditions that can happen during
pregnancy increase your risk of having a child with TOF would be German measles (rubella) and
other viral illness, poor nutrition, alcohol use, age (being over 40), diabetes (Explore Tetralogy of
Fallot, 2011). TOF has been linked to mutations in known heart related genes, although these
mutations consistently do not cause TOF. 11 segments of DNA found in the patients with TOF in
which too many or too few copies present. Genetic changes, known as copy number variations can
usually alter gene dosage, changing how much the protein is made by the cell.
Gene
One example is a gene called RAF1, which influences the growth, movement, and survival of
cells. Excess copies of RAF increase the risk of TOF nine fold. Just changing the dose of that one
gene causes tetralogy of Fallot, Seidman says (Seidman, 2009). RAF1 is overlapping duplications

Brangwen
Diction
The phrase the earth heaved and opened its furrow to the men describes how Mother Nature would
suck the men into her warmth and never let go. This conveys the inability of the men to turn around
or even realize that perhaps there was something greater waiting just behind them. This is
significant because the woman is not captivated by the earth s siren song as the men are. She
wants only the far off world and magic land that is not accessible to her, alerting the reader of her
desperate struggle for escape.
Syntax
The writer s use of parallelism to depict how Brangwen [has] power over the cattle, so the vicar
[has] power over her husband directly contrasts their different capabilities, personalities, and
potential. Moreover,

Trust Based Misbehavior Detection in Wireless Sensor Networks
III. Problem Statement
This paper focuses on modeling and calculating trust between nodes in WSNs, based on sensed
continuous data to address security issues and deal with malicious and misbehavior nodes and for
assisting the decision making process. A new trust model and a reputation system for WSNs can be
proposed. The trust model establishes the continuous version of the reputation system applied to
binary events and presents a new trust and reputation system for sensor Networks. This approach
for mixing of second hand information from neighboring nodes with directly observed information
to calculate trust between nodes in WSNs. Trust metrics can be used to evaluate the trust value of
each node in the clusters. Behaviors are monitored by monitoring node (MN). Monitoring node
selected at the next higher level of CH, this can also be changed dynamically along with CH. The
main focus of this paper is to develop a fuzzy theory based trust and reputation model for WSNs
environment. IV. System Model
A. Architecture
The architecture of our proposed system, consists of four major blocks namely,
i. Cluster Formation and CH selection ii. Information Gathering iii. Trust Evaluation and
Propagation iv. Misbehavior Detection

  • 2. Corruption In The Colbert Report Plato, Marx, and Rousseau all speak on the corruption of society and how the world surrounding it really is. One of the commonly seen themes throughout the texts is the idea of corruption. Corruption centers around one in power gaining advancement, often through bribery, by fraudulent behavior, either politically or socially. Socrates speak on tyrants as an example of this. A tyrant said to be someone who, Lives lordly...and lawlessly, and being himself a king...a tyrant leads a State, to the performance of any reckless deed. (Plato) These ideas of corruptionare also seen throughout the videos on The Colbert Report, by using the concept of Super PACs as an example. When looking at the reading one can imagine the corruption of that time and it is easier for one to brush it off as something in the past. The Colbert Report show the corruption of today when it comes to politics, which in this case make this topic hit a lot closer to home for many of us. Plato, Marx, and Rousseau have all spoke on ways that we are blinded by trying to understand a system of government that, due to having money and power over us, seem to be on our side but is... Be that as it may, the happy clamor from Heorotrankles Grendel, a loathsome evil presence who lives in the swamplands of Hrothgar s kingdom. Roused by the test, Beowulf sails to Denmark with a little organization of men, resolved to crush Grendel. • 5. How Is King Arthur Real Throughout the centuries King Arthur s story has continued to develop through speculation, conjecture, and evidence; however, much of this has long been contested. Few people argue he exists for lack of evidence and an abundance of mystery. The majority of Arthurian enthusiasts believe he never existed or was a character created by combining the best traits of heroes at the time. Some just do not care, these people get from Arthur inspiration and courage, whether he was real or not. In most cases King Arthur being real would just be icing on the cake. Such a discovery would be life changing not only would it put to rest all the controversy that has perplexed people for centuries, but it would also bestow credibility where it is due. On the... Another article from The History Files confirms that King Godhebog was indeed Maximus s uncle through marriage. • 6. Analysis Of From Russia With Love From Russia With Love (1963), directed by Terence Young is the second film in the James Bond movie franchise. Sean Connery and Robert Shaw headline the film s actors. This film is a spy thriller with twists and turns and puts James Bond into a position of entrapment and must use his brains to escape and get back to England alive. From Russia With Love is a timeless classic through its new standards of filmmaking and characters. This movie also sets the tone for the rest of the James Bondseries. The first reason why this film is a classic is because of the introduction of spy gadgets for James Bond. Bond today is partly known for his use of gadgets to get out of tough situations. This is the first Bond film that uses these. When Bond is getting orders to go to Turkey for his mission, he is brought a briefcase that has hidden knives on the sides and has to be open a different way than normal in order for the opener of the case not to be sprayed with tear gas. These tools will help him later in the film multiple when he is in the face of danger. This scene sets the tone not for just this film but for the many other popular movies of this franchise through the use of gadgets. A large reason why many people enjoy James Bond is because of astonishing use of these tools. With help of these gadgets, this movie can be considered a classic because of the memorable fights in the film. As with all spy films, there are going to be fight to the death scenes. Although it is predictable who will win in these films, directors can still make these scenes very suspenseful and exciting. Young does this exactly in this film with a very memorable fight scene that could be considered one of the best of all films. Bond seems to be trapped for good this time when he is in the train car with Donald Grant who was a gun pointed at Bond. Bond starts talking to Grant and eventually convinces Grant to take the 50 gold sovereigns. When Grant opens the briefcase, which is given to Bond with spy gadgets, he is met with a plume of tear gas. This starts the fight as Bond gets up to take the gun. A fight ensues, going across the small train car and eventually making Bond the winner by killing Grant. The fight however did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Peasants During The High Middle Ages Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300 A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the manorial villages you had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into a military obligation with the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were a class of people that worked their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs were little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose a careers, they move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in fact free and not absolutely controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all the power and had absolute control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial villages the lords of the land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation taken so the vassal would be cared for. Necessaries will depend largely on the individual circumstances and requirements of the individual but the following general categories include Food and Drink, Clothing, Board and Lodging, Funeral Expenses and Medical Aid, however the burden of showing not only that the goods were suitable to the condition in life of the individual but also that they were suitable to their actual requirements at the time of the sale and delivery, rests upon the supplier of the goods. Consequently, where an individual has already been sufficiently supplied with the goods in question, even though this fact is not known to the supplier, the contract will not be a binding one. A comparison can be drawn in the case of Nash v Inman [1908] a tailor supplied a Cambridge student who was a minor at the time with clothing which included eleven fancy waistcoats. The claimant in this case sued the defendant for the price of the clothes, at court the claimant s father a man of means gave evidence that the defendant was at the time in sufficient supply of clothing. The court held that the tailor had failed to prove that the clothes supplied to the defendant were indeed necessaries and that the claim was bound to fail because of this reason. • 11. African Of African American Culture There is no doubt that African Americans have a rich cultural background and history like the many different ethnic groups who settled in the New World, whose origins lie in another country. For this reason, America was known as the melting pot. However, the backgrounds of each of these cultures were not always understood or, in the case of African Americans, accepted among the New World society and culture. Americans were ignorant to the possibility of differences among groups of people until information and ideas started to emerge, particularly, the African retention theories. This sparked an interest in the field of African culture and retention in African Americans. However, the study of African Americanculture truly emerged as a result of increased awareness in America, specifically through the publication and findings of scholarly research and cultural events like the Harlem Renaissance where all ethnicities were able to see this rich historical culture of African Americans. There were many who became dedicated to this field of study, but two of the most predominant researchers and scholars of the African retention theories were Lorenzo Turner and Melville Herskovits. While both researchers examined different aspects of culture, Herskovits and Turner were both convinced that there was indeed African retention in African American cultureand society (Wade Lewis 402). While defending himself, Socrates also defends his choice of receiving a death penalty, rather then testifying against his beliefs. Although he makes some very strong and valid arguments, lots of readers would wonder why would such a wise man choose death over his life. • 15. Video Games And Its Effects On Female Characters Throughout the world women are depicted to be oversexualized among forms of media such as video games and comic books. The idea of oversexualization towards female characters is that they have been often drawn and animated in hypersexual ways. Even going as far as viewing them as a sex object, their revealing body images are eye candy through the eyes of men. Hence women found in comic books and video games are frequently emphasized by their excessive physical appearances, objectification, portrayal, and character role. So, what does oversexualize mean anyway? The term oversexualize defines as to sexualize excessively, which means to make something of sexual that is beyond degree in this case, a person or someone of a gender whether male or female can be oversexualized. To begin with, costumes that female characters wear are far more or less provocative clothes, but mainly towards sexually explicit ways. For example, Ivy Valentine comes from a video game series called Soul Calibur who is the first character to have a revealing outfit and in which her costumes appears to be a dominatrix style. Furthermore, she shows a huge amount of cleavage with her exposed thighs and hips despite wearing high boots and long gloves which indicates to be a skin display. • 18. Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Quite obviously, Lemuel Gulliver is the most focused on character in Jonathan Swift s novel Gulliver s Travels, as he is the most characteristically developed. Gulliver is from a middle class English family and we see all angles of his personality, his morals, and his behavior through the various situations he finds himself in and his observable conduct and the actions he choses to take in those situations. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to realize more about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and Houyhnhnms, Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we only get to see the very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he builds into a more fleshed out character. In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple man. He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to Emanuel College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21). Gulliver also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as characters. Although he s the most focused on character in the story, there doesn t necessarily appear to be any extraordinary thing about him that separates him from other human beings. His actions aren t as daring, courageous, or bold as one may expect from a main character. Swift uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Intensive Child Rearing Ideology During the 1930 s, the intensive mothering ideology began to emerge. Child rearing beliefs started to shift in focus. Children, previously viewed as evil, sinful beings in need of discipline in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, were now being considered innocent and vulnerable. Approaches to parentingpractices moved towards nurturance and devotion. Mothers adjusted their behaviors to be warm, child centered, and completely devoted to meeting the needs of their children. When mothers lacked attention and nurturance towards their children, they were accused of depriving their children of essential elements of motherly love and devotion. The mothers were considered by society as engaging in acts of maternal deprivation. This change in parenting style influenced the practices of intensive mothering. Theorists, Harry Harlow and John Bowlby, also were focusing on the importance of the mothering role and mother infant attachment. Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign seasons. In Caucuses, the power to select delegates, who are sent to nominate presidential candidates at the National Party Convention, rests with Party activists who meet first at a local, then county and finally at a state level to make their choices. The caucus system propounds the strength of the Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993, p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic, and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968, the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly ... Dan Brown s father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science, and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of either. One issues that was raised in the readings is that cars continue to be a popular choice for residents in both cities. Previous studies have shown that cities with high density living, use less cars because most people walk or catch a bus due to everything they need being so close to their home. This pattern is not happening in the case studies. Cars are the preferred mode of transport even if the residents have access to public transport. In Minneapolis, residents do not tend to use the rail networks. One reason is because commercial activities tend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were very respectful when we turned the corner and let us go through, as we passed them they went back into their formation. He starts singing, Come Fly with Me . My first love story may not be like the typical Romeo and Juliet, but hey to say the least it is a love story and MY love story. • 47. Water Purification Essay Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids and gases from contaminated water. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water), but water purification may also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical, pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include physical processes such as filtration, sedimentation, and distillation, biological processes such as slow sand filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such asflocculation and chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most deep groundwater does not need screening before other purification steps. 3. Storage Water from rivers may also be stored in bankside reservoirs for periods between a few days and many months to allow natural biological purification to take place. This is especially important if treatment is by slow sand filters. Storage reservoirs also provide a buffer against short periods of drought or to allow water supply to be maintained during transitory pollutionincidents in the source river. 4. Pre chlorination In many plants the incoming water was chlorinated to minimize the growth of fouling organisms on the pipe work and tanks. Because of the potential adverse quality effects (see chlorine below), this has largely been discontinued.[3] Widely varied techniques are available to remove the fine solids, micro organisms and some dissolved inorganic and organic materials. The choice of method will depend on the quality of the water being treated, the cost of the treatment process and the quality standards expected of the processed water. [edit]pH adjustment Pure water has a pH close to 7 (neither alkaline nor acidic). Sea water can have pH values that range from 7.5 to 8.4 (moderately alkaline). Fresh water can have widely ranging pH values depending on the geology of the drainage basin or aquifer and the influence of contaminant inputs (acid rain). If the water is acidic (lower than 7), lime, soda ash, or sodium hydroxide can be added to raise the pH during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Tetralogy Of Fallot Case Study Tetralogy of Fallot Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of the person heart that is developed while the fetus is in utero. The abnormality does change the normal direction of the hearts blood flow. TOF affects four different formations within the heart. The person that is born with TOF defect has it the rest of their life, although parts of the heart defect are repaired. Natural history TOF is a rare but very complex heart defect. This heart defect affects about 5 out of every 10,000 babies. TOF affects boys and girls equally. The four abnormalities include a large ventricular septal defect (also known as a VSD), pulmonary stenosis, right ventricular hypertrophy, and an overriding ... Heredity may cause some cases especially the mothers and fathers that have TOF are possibly more prone to have children with TOF. Infants that have other genetic disorders like Down syndrome and DiGeorge syndrome often can have defects like TOF. Causative and/or Susceptibility Genes Doctors often do not know what causes TOF. Factors and conditions that can happen during pregnancy increase your risk of having a child with TOF would be German measles (rubella) and other viral illness, poor nutrition, alcohol use, age (being over 40), diabetes (Explore Tetralogy of Fallot, 2011). TOF has been linked to mutations in known heart related genes, although these mutations consistently do not cause TOF. 11 segments of DNA found in the patients with TOF in which too many or too few copies present. Genetic changes, known as copy number variations can usually alter gene dosage, changing how much the protein is made by the cell. Gene One example is a gene called RAF1, which influences the growth, movement, and survival of cells. Excess copies of RAF increase the risk of TOF nine fold. Just changing the dose of that one gene causes tetralogy of Fallot, Seidman says (Seidman, 2009). RAF1 is overlapping duplications at the 3p25.1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Trust Based Misbehavior Detection in Wireless Sensor Networks III. Problem Statement This paper focuses on modeling and calculating trust between nodes in WSNs, based on sensed continuous data to address security issues and deal with malicious and misbehavior nodes and for assisting the decision making process. A new trust model and a reputation system for WSNs can be proposed. The trust model establishes the continuous version of the reputation system applied to binary events and presents a new trust and reputation system for sensor Networks. This approach for mixing of second hand information from neighboring nodes with directly observed information to calculate trust between nodes in WSNs. Trust metrics can be used to evaluate the trust value of each node in the clusters. Behaviors are monitored by monitoring node (MN). Monitoring node selected at the next higher level of CH, this can also be changed dynamically along with CH. The main focus of this paper is to develop a fuzzy theory based trust and reputation model for WSNs environment. IV. System Model A.
