  • 3. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED MONOLITHIC LEARNING ▸ the enclosed world of the classroom/lab/lecture ▸ the enclosed world of the distance learning module ▸ even MOOC’s are (kind of) self contained
  • 4. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED LEAKING FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS ▸ Since the adoption of social media classrooms (real and virtual) have been escaping ▸ Most of this is great … some of it - not so good ▸ Groups, pages, communities have all formed - if you an OU module chair - check Facebook, Google+ or LinkedIN there may be a group discussing your module

OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED EMBRACE THE LOCOMOTIVE ▸ The only constant in the universe is change … get used to it. ▸ It is happening, it has been happening and it continues ▸ Our students are doing it - lets join in - look for the back channels ▸ WE ARE TOO PROTECTIVE OF OUR CONTENT - understand that we now have a freemium learning culture

  • 10. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED COMPLIMENTARY MICROCONTENT ▸ Multiple knowledge nuggets per day ▸ Short videos on Periscope and YouTube ▸ Micro-podcasts on Soundcloud ▸ Animated GIF’s (old school yet so new wave) ▸ Images (of course) ▸ Links to articles, blogs and useful content
  • 12. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED AUTOMATIC TIMED POSTING ▸ Follows the classroom / distance learning content flow ▸ Used on @OUCisco and @OUCyberSec ▸ Preplanned, prepared and easy to load into the ‘machine’.
  • 14. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ▸ Both students and non-students engage ▸ you will easily generate a wider community of interest
  • 15. OUR CLASSROOM HAS ESCAPED THOUGHTS ▸ How can we enhance our teaching by allowing our classrooms to escape? ▸ What social media would sync best? ▸Could we teach a course/concept entirely by social media?
